Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Girl's Soccer: Saranac Lake Red Storm @ Seton Cathloc Knights October 7th 2024

Saranac Lake (11) sends it between the legs of Seton Catholic's Ayat Nedeem (11) as she sends the ball to the box. It would be Section VII girl's Soccer action from Seton Catholic as the Knights would host the Saranac Lake Red Storm on the pitch. The Red Storm would get the match's opening goal in the 31st minute from number 7 as they would take the 1-0 lead, and that's how the first half would end. When the teams returned for the second half, the Knights would answer in the 43rd minute to tie the game at one. The game would only stay tied briefly as the Red Storm would answer back in the 46th minute to retake the lead at 2-1 on the goal from 16. The Red Storm would keep their foot on the accelerator, adding three more goals down the stretch to give themselves the 5-1 win. The Red Storm would improve their record to 6-3-1 on the season as they will have their next game against Ticonderoga on October 9th. As for the Knights, they are still looking for their first win as they go to 0-9 on the season and will be back in action on October 9th as they will travel to Moriah for a game against the Vikings. Section VII Boy's Soccer: #8 Schroon Lake/Newcomb Wild Huskies @ Plattsburgh Hornets Otober 7th 2024

Schroon Lake/Newcomb's Cameron Jabaut (3) puts the chest to the ball at midfield to settle it as he is being checked by Plattsburgh's Scott Gommerl (9). The Plattsburgh Hornets would host the #9 undefeated Schroon Lake/Newcomb Wild Huskies in Section VII Boy's Soccer action from the Plattsburgh High Sports Complex. The Hornets would get the game's opening goal in the 12th minute from Nate Baker as the Hornets struck first for the 1-0 lead. The Wild Huskies would not go quietly, though, as they would keep coming and tie the game in the 24th minute on the Austin Hartwell to make it a 1-1 game. However, in the final minute of the first half, the Hornets would retake the lead on the Soumar Bachawatyscore, and that's how the first half would end. The Hornets would come out of the break trying to get that two-goal lead, and they would get it in the 52nd minute on the goal from Chase Laravia for the 3-1 lead, and that's where the game would end. With the win, the Hornets would go to 7-2-1 in the season and will be back in action Thursday as they travel to Beekmantown and take on the Eagles. As for the Wild Huskies, they will be right back tomorrow against the Keene Beavers as they suffer their first loss of the season and go to 9-1 on the season. Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Football Week 5: #25 Beekmantown Eagles @ #19 Saranac Lake Red Storm

Saranac Lake Zack Goetz (6) dives for the endzone and the Red Storm, but they would come up short on the 28-12 loss. So it would be week 5 of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference season, and this time, we would go to Saranac Lake and Raymond Wilson Final, where the host #19 Saranac Lake Red Storm would host the #25 Beekmantown in a game of the undefeated Red Storm and 1 lose Eagles. The game would be tight throughout the first half. The Eagles would get the game's opening score on the Josh Sands 2-yard keeper at the 8:26 mark of the first quarter to take the 7-0 lead. The game would stay there til the 4:25 mark of the second quarter when the Red Storm would get on the board with their quarterback keeper as Zack Goetz would score to make it a 7-6 game, and that's where the game would enter the half. Both teams would be looking to break through in the matchup when the teams returned for the second half. The Eagles would answer that bell on the 29-yard run by Parker Broughton to take the 14-6 lead at the 4:54 mark of the quarter. The game would stay there till the 8:27 mark of the 4th quarter when the Eagles would extend their lead to 21-6 on the 16-yard pass to Patrick Hagadorn. The Red Storm would answer right back as they marched down the field, and Chris Martin would finish off on the 4-yard run to make it a 21-12 game. The Eagles would put the game out of reach with 1:16 left in the game when Shamus Bibeau would score from 9 yards out to open up the lead to 28-12, and that's where the game would finish. The Beekmantown Eagles go to 4-1 on the season with their win and will be back home next weekend against the Moriah Vikings. The Saranac Lake Red Storm would get their first season loss and go to 3-1 as they will hit the road next week and take on the Peru Nighthawks. Gallery

Section VII Boy's Soccer: #4 Peru Nighthawks @ Plattsburgh Hornets Otober 4th 2024

Peru's Jordan Osborne (10) and Plattsburgh's (26) battle for the ball in the corner as the Hornets try to get on the board. We would battle in class A inside the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the #4 Peru Nighthawks in Boy's Soccer action. The Nighthawks would open up the scoring in the 17th minute on the goal from Zach Benson as Nighthawks would take the 1-0 lead. It wouldn't take long for the Nighthawks to extend their lead to 2-0 as Jordan Osborne would score in the 21st minute, and that's where the scoring would end for the first half. When the teams returned for the second half, the Hornets would come out buzzing, but they could not break through for a goal. The Nighthawks would take control of the game in the 60th minute on the Nolan Miner as the Nighthawks would secure the 3-0 victory. In the winning effort, the Nighthawks would stay undefeated as they go to 9-0-1 on the season and will be back in action on October 10th as they host the Saranac Spartans from the Apple Bowl. As for the Plattsburgh Hornets will fall to 6-2-1 with both their losses coming at the hands of the Nighthawks and will be back in action on Monday evening as they will host the Schroo Lake Wildcats. Section VII Boy's Soccer Crown Point Panthers @ Seton Catholic Knights October 2nd 2024

Seton Catholic's (2) and Crown Point's (3) battle for the ball. Seton wins and takes it into the box. The Seton Catholic Knights would host the Crown Point Panthers on their new camps field as part of the Section VII Boy's Soccer season. The Knights would get a pair of goals in the first half, taking the 2-0 lead on the Panthers into the intermission. When the teams return for the second half, it will be more of the same as when the Knights stay hot and add another pair of goals. The Panthers of Crown Point would add a late goal to break the shutout, but the Knights would still get the 4-1 victory. With the win, the Knights go to 2-5 on the season, while the Panthers fall to 1-6. Gallery

Section VII Boy's Soccer: Saranac Spartans @ Plattsburgh Hornets Otober 2nd 2022

Saranac and Plattsburgh attackers battle after the ball down the sidelines as they look to make the attack. The Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Saranac Spartans in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Soccer from the Plattsburgh High Sports Complex. The Hornets would get the scoring going first with a goal in the 6th minute from number 6 for the 1-0 lead. Then, in the 23rd minute, the Hornets would extend their lead to 2-0 on another goal. The Spartans would keep fighting and answer back in the 34 minute on the Michael Strack goal to make it a 2-1 game, but the Hornets would answer right back in the same minute to regain the two-goal lead at 3-1. The Spartans would keep fighting throughout the second half, making it a one-goal game at 3-2 in the 63rd minute. Although the Hornets would be able to fend off the challenges by the Spartans and get the win and go to 7-1-1 on the season while the Spartans fall to 5-2-1 on the season. Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Girl's Soccer: Northern Adirondack Bobcats @ Seton Cathloc Knights October 1st 2024

Seton Catholic's Brooke Bilow (15) with the turn and burn on Northern Adirondack's Olivia Lamboard (7). The Seton Catholic Knights would host the Northern Adirondack Bobcats. The Bobcats would get on the board first just 4 minutes into the game on the goal from Rielyn Nutt for the early 1-0 lead. The game would stay there till the 29-minute mark when the Bobcats would expand their lead to 2-0 on the Mandy McKinney goal and that's where they would end the first half of play. When the teams returned for the second half the Bobcat would stay hot and get three goals in the first ten minutes of the half from Ava Moore and Rielyn Nutt as they would take a commanding 5-0 lead. That is where the game would stay till the Knights would break the shutout bid in the last minute of the game on the Julia Padd goal to make it a 5-1 final and win for the Bobcats as they go to 5-2-1 on the season and the Knights fall to 0-7, Gallery

Section VII Class A Boy's Soccer Finals. #2 Plattsburgh Hornets Vs #1 Peru Nighthawks October 30th 2024

Peru's Zach Benson (20) splits a pair of Hornets and puts the shot on the net for the Nighthawks' third goal. It would be the second game of the championship Wednesday for section vii at Northeastern Clinton as the #1 Peru Nighthawks would take on the #2 Plattsburgh Hornets in a rematch of last year's title game that saw the Hornets get the win in the 12th round of the shootout almost a year ago to the date. The Nighthawks would come, and they were not looking for a repeat of last year as they scored in the first minute of the game on the Nolan Miner goal to make it a quick 1-0 lead. The Nighthawks would keep their foot on the gas and extend their lead to 2-0 on the Nick Petro goal. Then, in the final minute of the half, the Nighthawks would add another one, this time from Zach Benson, to make it a 3-0 game as the teams headed to the locker room. When the teams return for the second half, the Hornets come out trying to get on the board, but the Nighthawks' defense would be too much for them on this day, and the Nighthawks would get the 3-0 win. In the winning effort, the Nighthawks would stay perfect on the season at 14-0-1 and will enter the New York State Tournament and take on #9 Schalmont in the opening round. As for the Plattsburgh Hornets' chance at a repeat, it comes up short, and their season ends at 11-3-3. Gallery

Dirt Track Racing: Elegance Coating Championship Weekend Day 2 @ Airborne Park Speedway September 29th 2024

Raymond Hanson (68) and Jenna Zakrzewski (727) battle for the lead in the closing laps of there ten lap feature with the win going to Hanson. It would be the second of the Elegance Coating Championship Weekend from the Airborne Park Speedway and the big race on the day would be the 100 lap 5 thousand to win for the Sportsman Modified and there would be 49 cars fighting for 1 of the 32 starting spots. Also on the card would be the 9th State Cannabis Renegades, Moore Recycling Mini Stocks, and the 500cc Mini Sprints. The first feature of the day would be the 500cc Mini Sprints and their ten-lap event. The early leader would be Jordan Zakrzewski but Raymond Hanson would come from his 6th starting spot and get the win over Destin St Clair and Jenna Zakrzewski. Then we would have the 9th State Cannabis Renegades for their 40-lap event. The early leader of the race would be Shawn Fountain but he would only have the lead till lap 5 when Josh Terry would take the lead and hold it till the end. Although it would not be without competition Shawn Duquette and Nathaniel Guay would be short on his feelings for the rest of the race. In the end, Josh Terry would get the win on the afternoon but Shawn Duquette would win the war and be crowned the 2024 track champion over Tylor Terry. Then we would have the Mini Stocks for their 20-lap event and Tyler Bell would have the lead for the first 2 laps. Then there would be a pass at the front and Josh Laporte would take the lead and have it til lap 6 and he would have the lead til lap 13. On lap 13 Laporte would take the lead back but in the end, Jason Porter would get the lead down the stretch and hold on for the win. Then it would be time for the big go the 100 laps for the Sportsman Modified with the 5k to the winner. The race would start with an accident going into turn 1 with three cars involved and Chris Cayea would end up on his side. When they restarted the race Travis Bruno would take the lead and have the lead for the first ten laps. On lap ten Donovan Lussier would take the lead and he would hold the lead for the next 90 laps. Still, it would not be without challenges as Travis Bruno, Fire Swamp, and Jordan Fornwalt would all take their shot at the top spot. Still, in the end, Donovan Lussier would hold on for his 9th win on the season, with Joey Scarbrough finishing 16th on the day Lussier would be crowned the 2024 track champion. Gallery

Dirt Track Racing: Elegance Coating Championship Weekend Day 1 @ Airborne Park Speedway September 28th 2024

Gene Zindler (46) and Kyle Hart lead the pack into the corner as we had tight racing during the Moore Recycling Mini Stock race. It would be the first day of the Elegance Coating Championship Weekend and there would be seven divisions in action with the Limited Sportsman Modified, 500cc Mini Sprints, Pro Stocks, Crown Vics, Sportsman Modified, Renegades, Mini Stocks along with the enduro racers there would be 115 racers in the pits plus another 49 enduro cars in action on the afternoon. Once the the heat racing was done it would be onto the features and the first one up would be the JS Steel Sportsman Modified nonwinners for 25 laps it would see Chris Cayea get the wire-to-wire win but it would not be without challenge as it would see him and Michael Wright battle for the lead most of the race. Then next up would be the 500cc Mini Sprints for their first segment of ten laps for the weekend and it would see a battle up front between Destin St Clair and Raymond Hanson but at the strip, it would be St. Clair by a car length. Then we would have the Pro Stocks for their 25 lap event and it would see Kyle Hoard start on the pole and hand his way to victory lane. Even though that would be the case it would not be without action on the track as it sees challenges from Bruno Cyr and Jonathan Levesque but they just wouldn't have enough on this day. Then it would be the return of the Crown Vics for their second-ever appearance at the track and it would see Chad Merrill start on the pole but he would be challenged by Eric Friend early in the race and would see Friend get the win over Matt Monaghan. Then we would have the Limited Sportsman Modified for there 25 lap event and Don Williams would get the early lead off the start of the race but he would be challenged by Caleb Durgan and he would get the lead late in the race and he would get his first career win and Logan Denis would round out the top three. Then we would have their Moore Recycling Mini Stocks for their pair of features in the a and b. We would start with the A Man for their 20-lap event and it would see Cory Collins get the early lead but it would be shortlived as Speedy Bressette would come up and take the lead. Although there would be a storm brewing in the back as Chris Clark would come from the 19th spot and take the lead and get the win and then in victory lane announce his retirement to the crowd. The winner of the B Main would be for the second time this season Jeremaih King would get to the checkered flag first. Then to finish off the night it would be the Enduro race for 50 laps that would see 49 cars take the green flag and the winner would be Brent Wilbur. The racing action will continue tomorrow with the season finale as the main event will be Sportsman Modified going 100 laps for five thousand dollars to win. Gallery
