We would be halfway through the first quarter before our first basket, but when the scoring came, the Spartans would string a few together and have the 11-3 lead after the first quarter. When the second quarter came around, the Hornets would find their shot, but they would not be able to chip into the deficit. The Hornets would win the quarter 12-11, but the Spartans would have the 22-15 lead at the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Spartans would stay hot with an 11-8 quarter and take a 33-20 lead into the fourth quarter. With the Spartans having the game pretty much in hand, it would be a slower pace in the fourth quarter played, and the teams would tie for the quarter at eight as the Spartans would get the 41-28 victory. With the win for the Spartans, they go to 9-2 in the season as they return home next week. Saranac's Layla Pellerin (1) with the scoop shot along the baseline as the Spartans get the 48-33 victory over the Nighthawks. It would be the final game on the opening day of the Clinton Community College Holiday Classic and would pit the Peru Nighthawks and Saranac Spartans in girls' basketball action. The Spartans would take control of the game early on and have the 17-7 lead after the opening quarter. In the second quarter, the teams would play a little more evenly as the Nighthawks would find their defense, and it would be a 9-8 quarter in favor of the Nighthawks, but the Spartans would have the 25-16 lead at the intermission. When the teams return for the third quarter, it will be another evenly contested eight minutes as the Spartans have a 12-9 quarter and take the 37-25 lead into the fourth. In that fourth quarter, it would be another win for the Spartans as they would have an 11-8 quarter and secure the 48-33 victory. In the winning effort for the Spartans, they will go to 6-1 on the season and take on the Beekmantown Eagles on the second day as they go for the title. Malone's Raegan McArdle (11) takes flight as she lays it off the window for the score. It would be the second game of the 2024 edition of the Clinton Community College Holiday Classic, and it would be the first appearance of the girls; it would see the Malone Huskies from Section X taking on the Beekmantown Eagles from Section VII, and the Huskies would be looking to stay perfect on the early season. The Huskies would be off to the races as they would break into a 21-8 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Huskies would stay on the gas, expand their lead to 15-6, and take a 36--14 lead into the break. When the teams return for the second half, it will be more of the same as when the Huskies stay hot, have a 17-7 quarter, and take the 53-21 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Eagles would put the bench in there, and the Huskies would be unable to as they only have a bench of 2 players. The Huskies would win the fourth 17-4 and get a convincing 70-25 victory. In the winning effort, the Huskies would stay perfect in the early season, going to 5-0 and taking on the Peru Nighthawks tomorrow. Plattsburgh's Bailey Hewson (10) goes up and around Ausable Valley's (12) for the score on a 47-42 loss to Ausable Valley. It would be another night of Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls's Basketball action, this time from the Plattsburgh High School, and it would see the Hornets tipping off against the Ausable Valley Patriots. The game would be tight as both teams found the basket at a good clip and tied at 12 after the first quarter. Both teams would keep up their good scoring in the second quarter, but the Hornets would be a little better in the quarter at 13-11 and take the 25-23 lead into the break. When the teams would return for the third quarter, the defense would step up for the Patriots, and they would have a 10-6 quarter and take the 33-31 lead into the final quarter. In that final quarter, the offenses on both sides would return, but the Patriots would be better on this day with a 14-11 quarter to seal the 47-42 victory. Gallery

It would be the opening night of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference season for the Plattsburgh Hornets, and the Peru Nighthawks would renew their rivalry again on the hardwood. The game would start well for the Nighthawks as they would jump to a 19-12 lead after the first eight minutes. In the second quarter, the Nighthawks would stay hot as they would have a 19-14 quarter and take the 38-26 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, they played an even third quarter, with the Nighthawks winning the quarter 11-10 and taking the 49-36. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets would do their best to get back in the game with a shutdown defense, and they would win the quarter 10-2, but it would not be enough on this night as the Nighthawks would get the 51-46 win and the Nighthawks would go to 3-0 on the season while the Hornets fall to 0-1 on the season.
