Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boys' Basketball: Crown Point Panthers @ Plattsburgh Hornets February 10th, 2024

Crown Point's Matt Beeman (31) would get up and get tall as he would block the shot from Plattsburgh's Dan Hartman (11) in front of the basket. It would be an interconference matchup inside section seven boys' basketball this Saturday afternoon as the Plattsburgh Hornets would be one of the top teams in the section this year the Crown Point Panthers. The bigger Plattsburgh Hornets would leave little to the imagination on this day as they would have their way with the Panthers in the first half and have a 47-19 lead at the break. When the teams returned for the third quarter it would be more of the same as the Hornets would have a 27-15 quarter and take a 74-34 lead into the fourth. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets would empty the bench and get everyone in the game and the Panthers would win the quarter 16-10 but on the scoreboard, it would be all Hornets on this afternoon with an 84-51 victory. In the winning effort, the Hornets would improve to 10-8 on the season and the Panthers would fall to 12-5 as both teams are coming down the playoff stretch and are looking forward to the sectionals. High School Boy's Hockey: Christan Brothers Academy Brothers @ Plattsburgh Hornets February 10th 2024

Christain Brothers Academy's Ethan Premo (21) backs his way into Plattsburgh's Lucas Dashnaw (27) and pins him along the boards. It would be a matchup between neighboring sections as the Christain Brothers Academy Brothers from section II would come to Plattsburgh and the Ameri-can North Sports Center and take on the Plattsburgh Hornets. The opening goal of the game would come with about four minutes left in the first period when Patrick Feranec would light the lamp for the 1-0 Brothers lead. The lead would be short-lived though as the Hornets would come back about two minutes later and get the equalizer to tie the game at one on the Braeden Calkins goal. The game would stay there through most of the second period until Brothers Dom Waters would make it a 2-1 game with five minutes left in the period. The Hornets would come back again and tie the game at two on the powerplay goal from Cooper Holland 1:18 later in the period. In the third period though the Brothers would be too much for the Hornets on this day as they would get three goals from Dom Waters, Mason Famulare, and Ethan Premo while the Hornets would get one from Braeden Calkins as the Brothers would get the 5-3 win. In the winning effort, Christan Brothers Academy would go to 6-13-1 on the season and the Plattsburgh Hornets would fall to 1-16-1 on the season as they head to their Wednesday contest with the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers. SUNYAC Women's Hockey: Potsdam State Bears @ #3 Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 10th, 2024

Potsdam State's Magalie Parent (35) with one of her 49 saves on the day on the rebound chance from Claria Wall (34) in front of the net. It would be senior day at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena before the game with their fellow north country foe the Potsdam State Bears they would honor the outgoing senior class a class that would go to 4 straight NCAA Tournaments and have a couple frozen fours in front of 400 Cardinal fans. As for the game on the ice, the Cardinals would have the lone goal of the game with 39 seconds left in the first period from Mattie Norton. The Cardinals would have plenty of chances throughout the afternoon they just weren't able to light the lamp the rest of the night as Potsdam State's Maggie Parent would make 49 saves as the Cardinals would get the 1-0 victory. In the winning effort, Lilla Nease would make 17 saves as she would have another shutout on the season and go to 20-2-1 on the season. As they head into their last pair of regular season games before the playoffs start next weekend at Cortland State. Gallery

Mountain Valley Athletic Conference Girl's Basketball: Bolton Eagles @ Seton Catholic Knights February 8th 2024

Seton Catholic's Grace Trombley (12) takes flight for the layup off the backboard as part of a game-high 12 points. It would be a matchup inside the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference in Plattsburgh as the Bolton Jaguars would travel up to take on the Seton Catholic Knights in Girl's Basketball action. It would be a slow start out of the gate as the Seton Catholic Knights would hold just the 8-1 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the offense would start to heat out for the Knights as they would have a 10-4 quarter and take the 18-5 lead into the intermission. When the teams return for the third quarter, the defenses will stay on top, as the Knights will have an 8-4 quarter and take the 26-9 lead into the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter, with it looking like the Knights would have the game in hand, the Jaguars would do their best to get back in the game with an 11-8 quarter, but the nights would hold on for the 34-20 victory. In the winning effort, the Seton Catholic Knights return to 500 on the season as they are now 9-9, while the Bolton Eagles suffer just their third loss and are 14-3. The Knights will be back in action Saturday as they host the Northern Adirondack Bobcats Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Hockey: Northeastern Clinton Cougars @ #18 Saranac Spartans February 7th 2024

Saanac's Nolan Miner (9) and Northeastern Clinton's Josh Seymour (17) with the hard collision on the open ice hit going after the loose puck in the zone. With a couple of weeks left in the regular season, we would have the Northeastern Clinton Cougars traveling to Plattsburgh and the Amer-Can North Sports Center to tangle with the #18 Saranac Spartans in Section VII Hockey. The game would start fast and fierce with both teams getting a goal in the first five minutes of the game. Then with 5:42 left in the opening period, the upset-minded Cougars would strike on the Wade Simpson goal to give the Cougars the 2-1 lead. The game would stay there till about the 7:35 mark of the second when Landon Duprey would knock in the rebound and tie the game at two. Then about 75 seconds later the Spartans would take the lead as Jackson Coryer would find the back of the net and the Spartans would take the 3-2 lead. Then just 40 seconds later the Spartans would expand their lead to two goals as it would become a 4-2 game on the Noah Miner powerplay goal. The quick attack would continue for the Spartans as they would score again about a minute later on the Ashytn Catlin goal as they took the 5-2 lead. Then to finish off the scoring in the second period Landon Duprey would finish off the hat trick with just about 2:30 left to give the Spartans the 6-2 lead. In the third period, the Spartans would give a lot of the kids that don't see a lot of playing time sometime in the period and there would be no scoring throughout and the Spartans hold on for the 6-2 win. In the winning effort, the Spartans go to 10-7-1 and be back on the ice Friday as they take on Watertown the season while the Cougars fall to 4-12-1.Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Basketball: Beekmantown Eagles @ Plattsburgh Hornets February 6th, 2024

Beekmantown's Steven Bronson (12) with the block shot on Plattsburgh's Marcus Griffiths (10) on his shoot attempt from the elbow. It would be the crosstown rivalry matchup as the Beekmantown Eagles would make the short 7-mile trek over to Plattsburgh High School and take on the Hornets in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Basketball action. The game would be tight through the first 8 minutes of the game with the Hornets having a slim 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter the game would stay tight but the the Eagles would have a better quarter with a 17-12 quarter and take the 30-26 lead into the break. When the teams returned for the second half the Eagles would stay hot and be able to expand on their lead at 48-38 as they would have a 18-12 quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Eagles would just be too much for the Hornets on this night as they would have a 14-10 quarter and capture the 62-48 win. In the winning effort, the Eagles go to 7-5 while the Hornets fall to 8-6 on the season as the two teams battle for the division win down the stretch. Gallery

NYSPHSAA Section VII Girl's Hockey Championship: #1 Beekmantown Eagles Vs #2 Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Lakers February 5th 2024

Beekmantown's Lilly Pratt (14) with the goal on the scramble in front of the net to extend the Eagles lead. It would be the NYSPHSAA Section VII Championship in Girl's Hockey and it would feature the #1 Beekmantown Eagles at 18-1 against the #2 Saranac Lake-Lake Placid Lakers at 3-16 from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in front of a decent crowd. The Eagles would come soaring in the first period and would get three unanswered goals from Avery Parker, Sophia Amaya-Gutierrez, and Janna Ruest and take the 3-0 lead after the first period. When the teams returned for the second period the Eagles would keep their foot on the gas and would have a five-goal outburst in the second with goals from Meegan Burdo, Katie McCormick, Sophia Amaya-Guiterrez (the second of the night), Lilly Pratt, and Ele Fullman and they would take control with the 8-0 lead. In the third period with the game in hand, the teams would empty the benches and let the rest of the teams play and the Eagles would add one more in the period Ele Fullman would get her second of the night as the Beekmantown Eagles get the 9-0 win. In the winning effort, they will advance to the NYSPHSAA Regional Tournament and will play the Adirondack United on February 8th in the opening round as they look to get revenge on their only loss of the season. High School Boy's Hockey: Saranac Chiefs @ Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks February 3rd 2024

Saratoga Springs' Matt Barber with the blocker saves on Saranac's Nolan Miner on the breakaway attempt. The Saranac Spartans would stay in the region for a game the next evening this time against Division I Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks at the Saratoga Springs Ice Rink. The Spartans would get the opening goal of the game from Landon Duprey at the 6:27 mark of the opening period to give them the 1-0 lead. The Blue Streaks would keep coming and they would tie the game up at one on the Andrew Nelsen goal to make it a 1-1 game. However, the Spartans would answer back with 24 seconds left in the period and regain the one-goal lead at 2-1 on the Nolan Miner goal. In the second the Spartans would get the lone goal of the period from Gabe Moore on the rebound at the 1216 mark of the period to make it a 3-1 game. The game would stay there till the 6:26 mark of the third period when the Spartans would strike again and make it a three-goal lead at 4-1 on the Brody McComber goal. However, the Blue Streaks would not go away as they would get two goals within a minute with about five minutes left from Jayson Carpenter and Jack Murauskas to make it a 4-3 game. From there the Spartans defense would be up to the task and would stand tall against the Blue Streaks list minute attempts to tie the game to hold on for the 4-3 win. In the losing effort for the Blue Streaks Matt Barber would make 25 saves as the Blue Streaks fall to 10-7-1 and will be back in action against state-ranked Shenendehowa on Wednesday. While the Saranac Spartans would get the win and go to 9-7-1 on the season and Mason Patnode would make 35 saves on the night and will hit the ice again Tuesday back in sectional play against the Northeastern Clinton Cougars at AC North Sports Center. New Enhland Hockey Conference: Southern Maine Huskies @ #9 Skidmore Thoroughbreds February 3rd 2024

Skidmore's Brandon Tate (30) with the glove save on the quick wrister by Southern Maine's Mathieu Sabourin (37) to keep the Thoroughbreds in the game. It would be a match-up inside the New England Hockey Conference as the #9 Skidmore Thoroughbreds would take on the Southern Maine Huskies in front of 900 passionate fans at the Saratoga Springs Ice Rink. The home Thoroughbreds would get the opening goal of the game at the 4:42 mark of the first period when Patrick Kaeden scored at the 4:42 mark for the 1-0 lead. The Huskies would be able to get the equalizer though on the shorthand when John Hagan would light the lamp at the 8"34 mark of the period to tie the game at one and that's how the first period would end. The Thoroughbreds would be able to retake the lead at 2-1 on the Mason Beecher goal at the 5:48 mark. The lead would be short-lived as the Huskies would answer back about 90 seconds later to tie the game at two on the Jakub Suran goal. Then about three minutes later the Huskies would forge ahead and get the go-ahead goal at the 10:37 mark on the Ethan McDuffie for the 3-2 Huskies lead. The game would stay there till the 11:51 mark of the third period when Matt Sullivan would score on the Huskies powerplay to make it a 4-2 game. From there the Husky's defense would stand tall and hold on for the 4-2 upset victory over the #9 Skidmore Thoroughbreds. In the winning effort, the Huskies Mason Palmer would make 41 saves as they go to 8-12-3 on the season. For the Thoroughbreds Brandon Tate would make 23 saves as they fall to 16-5-3 on the season. High School Boy's Hockey: Saranac Chiefs @ #6 Queensbury Spartans February 2nd 2024

Saranac's Evan Patrie (6) with the top-shelf goal to get his team within one in the third period against Queensbury. The Saranac Spartans would travel down to Section II Friday night and play the #6 Queensbury Spartans on the pink rink night for cancer awareness in the battle of Spartans. The Saranac Spartans would wear their new black jerseys for cancer awareness while Queensbury would wear pink with a family member's name on the back that was touched by cancer in front of a packed house. The Queensbury Spartans would have a 3-1 lead after the opening 17 minutes while the lone Saranac goal came from Evan Patrie. In the second period, each team would get a pair of goals to make it a 4-2 game after the second 17 minutes. In the third period, both teams would bring the offense as there would be a combined 5 goals in the period but the Queensbury Spartans powerplay would just be too much as they get a couple on the powerplay to secure the 6-5 win. The biggest one would be right after Saranac had made it 5-4 with about six minutes left in the game. However, the Queensbury Spartans would on for the win as Eagn Breault would make 34 saves as they went to 13-3 on the season. In the losing effort, Shawn McLane would make 23 saves in a great effort as Saranac falls to 8-7-1 on the season and will be back in action tomorrow as they play another Section II team in the Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks.
