The game would stay there till the third period, as there would be no scoring in the second period. In the third period, the Hornets would make it a 3-0 game at the 11:12 mark on the Braeden Calkins. The Lakers would get on the board with just under two minutes left in the game on the Ayden McCormick goal to make it a two-goal game again at 3-1. The Hornets would finish the game in the final minute on the empty netter from Braeden CalkCalkins'l to secure the 4-1 win. With the win, the Plattsburgh Hornets go to 2-4-1 on the season as they head into their tournament in Albany next weekend. The game would start well for the home Spartans as Gabe Moore would get the game's opening goal at the 3:30 mark of the period for the 1-0 lead. Later in the period, the Lakers would get the equalizer from Ayden McCormick to tie the game after the first period. In the early stages of the second period, the Spartans would regain the lead on the Landon Giroux at 2-1. The game would stay there till the 7:35 mark of the period when Ryan Campbell would light the lamp on the rebound goal. Then, with just under five minutes left in the period, Campbell would strike again for his second of the night and make it a 4-1 game. The Lakers would answer back on the powerplay with 1:35 left in the second period on Ayden McCormick's second goal of the night, and the period would end at 4-2 Spartans. It would take the 11:52 mark of the third period for the next goal when Ashytn Catlin would score for the Spartans and make it a 5-2 game, but just 15 seconds later, the Spartans would extend it to 6-2 on Nolan Miner's goal. Then, just two minutes later, the Spartans would end their scoring spree as Chase Carpenter would get on the board and make it a 7-2 game. The Lakers would get one in the closing minute from Ayden McCormick for his second goal to finish the game at 7-3 Spartans. In the winning effort, the Spartans will go to 6-2-1 on the season, and Ryan Campbell will lead the way with two goals as they head into their weekend series on January 17th and 18th. It would be the classic Section VII rivalry with the Beekmantown Eagles hosting the Plattsburgh Hornets from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. Still, this game would have a different meaning today as it would be the annual Hannah's Hope as they raise money to help find a cure for the horrible disease that has stricken the girl. The game would start fast and well for the home Eagles as Edward Sweenor would light the lamp just 29 seconds into the game for the early 1-0 Eagles lead. The Hornets would come back and tie the game at the 3:55 mark on the rebound goal from Cooper Holland. Then, no more than 90 seconds after that, the upset-minded Hornets would take the 2-1 lead on the powerplay goal from Braeden Calkins. The lead for the Hornets would be short-lived as Edward Sweenor would get the tying goal just over a minute later for his second of the game, and the first period would end tied at 2. In the second period, the Eagles would get the lone goal from Edward Sweenor to complete the hat trick on the day at the 6:10 mark to make it a 3-2 game. Then, in the third period, in the early minutes, the Eagles would make it a two-goal game on the Novak Jarus goal at 4-2, and that's where the game would finish. In the winning effort, Jack Bell would make 30 saves on the night and go to 4-3 on the season as they head into their game against Northeastern Clinton on January 7th. The Hornets would get the game's opening goal at the 6:37 mark of the first period when Cooper Holland would sneak it by the netminder for the 1-0 Hornets lead. The game would stay there till the 6:50 mark of the second period when Sam Bezio would snip by the Cougars goalie for the 2-0 lead. The Hornets would keep coming and expand their lead to 3-0 at 9:07 into the second period when Braeden Calkins would score. Then, at the 10:01 mark of the third period, the Hornets would put the icing on the cake with the game's second goal by Sam Bezio and take the 4-0 lead, and from there, they would hold on for the win. It would be the championship of the 2024 edition of the Applebee's Winter Classic, featuring the #7 Rye Garnets and the Beekmantown Eagles from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. The Eagles would get on the board at the 9:27 mark of the first period when Edward Sweenor scored for the 1-0 lead. Then, at the 12:19 mark of the period, the Eagles would return and extend their lead to 2-0 on the Jackson Deyo goal and take the lead into the first intermission. In the second period, the Garnet would fight back with two goals and tie the game at 2. When the teams returned for the third period, the Garnets would come out on fire and explode for five goals to secure the 7-2 victory and claim the 2024 Applebee's Winter Classic. As for the Beekmantown Eagles, they will finish 2nd in the Winter Classic and go to 3-3 on the season as Jack Bell would make 29 saves on the afternoon and will return to action on January 6th as they take on the Plattsburgh Hornets in the annual Hannah's Hope game.
