Dirt Track Racing: Sportsman Modified Twin 20s @ Airborne Park Speedway September 12th 2024

Jeremiah King (75) gets to the checkered flag first and captures his first career victory over a fast-charging Ryan Senecal and Jake Fountain. Airborne Park Speedway would be entering its last three weeks of the racing season for 2024 and the main event of the evening would be Twin 20 lappers for the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified. The first feature of the night would be the first of the twin 20s and there would be 22 cars that would take the green flag the winner on the night would be Beau Reeves for the first win of the season after a good battle up front between him and Joey Scarbrough and then Evan Roberts would finish out the top three. Then we would have the 358 Modified feature after the intermission break and it would see Tanner Siemons lead 90 percent of the race until a late race caution would bunch the field back up. The restart would see Mike Mahaney come from the second row like he was shot out a cannon take the lead and get his second straight win of the season. Then we would have the second J+S Steel Sportsman Modified and it would see Bucko Branham get the lead at the start of the race. Although the challengers would be coming they won't have far to come as Donovan Lussier and Nick Heywood who started 4th and 5th would soon be there battling with Branham for the win and in the end Donovan Lussier would get his seventh win of the season and close the gap on points leader Joey Scarbrough. Then we would have the 9th State Cannabis Renegades for 20 laps affair and it would see Richie Turner get the early lead of the race but the top point men would be coming from mid-pack and make their presents known at the front. At the end of the night, it would be a battle up front between Shawn Duquette and Tylor, and on this night Duquette would get the better of Terry and extend that points lead to 16 points. Then to finish off the night it would be the A and B Main's for the Moore Recycling Mini Stocks and it would see Jeremiah King start on the front row and have an early race battle with Jason Bradley but after a few laps, he would gap the filled. There would be challengers coming from back in the back as Ryan Senecal started ninth and came up there but would have nothing for King on this night as he would earn his first career victory and Jake Fountain would come from 13th to finish off the top three. Then to finish off the night it would be the B Main for the Mini Stocks and for the second week in a row, it would see Tyler Bell get the early lead but the car would just lose power and Kyle Botala would cruise around him for the lead and get the B Main win. Dirt Track Racing: 358 Modified Championship Night @ Airborne Park Speedway September 19th 2024

Fire Sqwamp (88) and Jamy Begor (19) get together down the backstretch going for the win on the final lap of the JS Steel Sportsman Modified 30 lap feature. It would be 35 Modified Championship night from the Airborne Park Speedway and the next to last race for all three other divisions for the night. After all the heat races were run it would be on to the features. The first feature of the night would be the Be Cool Heating and Air Condition 358 Modifieds for 30 laps and at the end there would be a championship decided. The leader of the start would be Jeremy Roy but that would be short-lived as the heavy hitters were coming from the middle of the pack eventually, Chris Raabe would get around him and take the lead and from there he would be off to get his second win of the season. As for the matter at hand with the championship, Mike Mahanney would finish 4th and Tim Fuller would be 7th clinching the 2024 track championship for Mike Mahanney and his first at the Airborne Park Speedway. Then next up would be the J+S Steel Sportsman Modified and it would see Jamy Begor get the lead off the start and he would be out to a big lead but there would be charging Fire Swamp that was catching him in the closing laps for the lead. There would be a caution with about three laps to go and then the old aged would come up where cautions breed cautions. As we were on the third restart to get the last couple of laps. Then on the last lap that's when all hell would break loose as Fire Swamp and Jamy Begor would get together down the backstretch and Donovan Lussier would inherit the lead and get his 8th win of the season. Then next we would have the 9th State Cannabis Renegades for their 20-lap feature and it would see a battle up front behind Nathaniel Guay and Shawn Duquette and in the end it would be Guay getting his second win of the season. Then to finish off the night it would be Moore Recycling Mini Stocks with their pair of features. First up would be the A Main for 15 laps and would see rookie Cody Young lead the early part of the race but Steven Bressette would come up from the 7th spot and take the lead with 5 laps to go and hold for the win. Then in the B Feature, it would be Bill Doner with the wire-to-wire victory. Gallery

NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Skidmore Thoroughbreeds @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals September 11th 2024

Plattsburgh State's Jillian Biezo (19) with the run down the field with the ball as Skidmore's Hazel Aiello (14)The Plattsburgh State Cardinals Women's Soccer would open up the home portion of their season against the Skidmore Thoroughbreds in front of a crowd of just over 200 people for the nonconference midweek tilt. The game would remain scoreless through the first of the game but that would not be without both teams having their chances to get the opening goal of the game but the goalkeepers would be up to the task. The Thoroughbreds would get the opening goal of the game just 2 minutes into the second half when Ella Stone broke through for the opening goal of the game. The Thoroughbreds would keep the gas pedal and would double their lead to 2-0 just five minutes later with Ella Stone's second score of the game. Then in the 62nd minute of the game, the Thoroughbreds would take control of the game as Ella Stone would add her third goal of the game and put a stranglehold on the Cardinals. The Cardinals would not go quietly though as they would keep fighting for the last 28 minutes of the game but they would be unable to find the back of the net for the score as Skidmore would get the 3-0 victory. In the winning effort, Skidmore goes to 4-0-1 on the season while the Cardinals fall to 1-3 as Lauren Haley would make seven saves on the night. The Cardinals will be back in action on September 14th as they will welcome in the RIT Tigers. Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Volleyball: Saranac Lake Red Storm @ Peru Nighthawks September 10th 2024

Peru's (20) with the block on the spike attempt on Saranac Lake's Gracen Foster. It would be the opening match of the season for both the Peru Nighthawks and the Saranac Lake Red Storm in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Volleyball action from Peru. It might have been the first of the season but it might have been a candidate for match of the season as it would go all give sets including the fourth one going to a 26-24 for the Red Storm. In the end, the Red Storm would just be too much on this day for the home Nighthawks as the Red Storm go to 1-0 while the Nighthawks fall to 0-1 on the season. Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Volleyball: Northeastern Clinton Cougars @ Plattsburgh Hornets September 10th 2024

Platsburgh's Olivia Lewis (16) with the tip at the net for the Hornet's point. It would be the season opener for the Plattsburgh Hornets and Northeastern Clinton Cougars from Plattsburgh High School in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference. It might have been the season opener for the Hornets they looked like they were in mid-season form as they would dispense of the Cougars in just 45 minutes 25-6, 25-2, and 25-7. With the win, the Hornets would start their season at 1-0 while the Cougars fall to 0-1. Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Girl's Soccer: Ticonderoga Sentinels @ Seton Cathloc Knights September 10th 2024

Ticonderoga's (3) with the chip over Seton Catholic's and was off to the races to the net. It would be an early-season matchup in Section VII Girl's Soccer. We would have an interconference affair from St. Peter's in Plattsburgh as the Seton Catholic Knights would host the Ticonderoga Sentinels in action. The Sentinels would start hot and have the 4-0 lead after the first half of play. When the teams returned for the second half it would be more of the same for the Sentinels as they would add another six goals and cruise to the 10-0 victory. In the victory for the Sentinels, they would have three players that would have multi-goal games as they would even up their record at 1-1 while the Knights would start their season at 0-1. Gallery

NJCAA Division III Region III Men's Soccer: Cayuga Community Spartans @ Clinton Commuty Cougars September 8th 2024

Clinton's Cyle Marshall (21) with the defensive header to clear the ball out of the 18-yard box. The Cliton Community College Cougars would take the pitch at their new home the SUNY Plattsburgh Field House as they would host the Cayuga Community College Spartans in an NJCAA Division III Region III game. The match would not start very well for the home Cougars as they would be behind 3-0 in the first 15 minutes of the game. The half would not improve in the last 30 minutes as they would give up another two goals and trail by a score of 5-0 after the first half. When the teams returned for the second half, the game would not get any better for the home Cougars as they would give up another 7 goals in the half, lose the game 12-0, and fall to 0-4 on the season. The bright spot for the Cougars would be Zamir Foster as he would have double-digit saves on the day The Cougars will be back in action on September 15th as they will host the North Country Community College Saints. N.Y.S.P.H.S.A.A. Football Week #1 Granville/Whtehall Golden Horde @ Plattsburgh Hornets September 7th 2024

Granville/Whitehall's CJ Monty (35) with the stiff arm on Plattsburgh's Landon Ladue (4) as he battles for the first down and the extra yards. It would be the opening weekend of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Football season and it would see an intersectional matchup between the host Plattsburgh Hornets from Section VII and the visiting Granville/Whitehall Golden Horde from Section II from Plattsburgh High School. The game would start well for the visiting Golden Horde as they would take the 6-0 lead just 90 seconds into the game on a 2-yard run by the running back CJ Monty. They would answer again just over halfway through the quarter to extend their lead to 14-0 on their second running touchdown from CJ Monty. The Hornets would keep fighting and they would get on the board in the closing minutes of the second quarter when they would connect with Braeden Calkins for the touchdown reception making it a 14-6 game as they ended the first half. When the teams returned for the third quarter it would be the tale of two halves as the rain would start to fall on the game and slow down the offense. The Golden Horde would be able to get through the raindrops, get a score, and make it a 20-6 game as they would enter the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter, the Golden Horde would be able to catch their footing in the weather as they added two more touchdowns as they would secure the 34-6 victory. In the winning effort, the Golden Horde would start their season off 1-0 as they enter section II play against Warrensburg/Lake George. As for the Plattsburgh Hornets fall to 0-1 as they will take on the Ausable Valley Patriots who will both be looking to get their first win of the season. Gallery

Dirt Track Racing: Mechanic's Night @ Airborne Park Speedway September 4th 2024

Richie Turner (17) Shawn Fountain (7), and Nathaniel Guay (97.5) all battle for the early lead of the 20-lap Renegades main event that would see Tylor Terry get the eventual win. So the race season has reached the final month of the season and the points races are all tight among the four divisions as they are coming down the stretch as all four divisions would be in action on mechanics night. After all the heat races were completed first up would be the Small Block Modifieds for their 30-lap event. The race would start with Jordan Formwalt getting the lead in the third starting spot off the start of the race. He would have the lead first the first few laps until Steve Bernier would slice his way to the front of the pack. He would hold the lead for the next 10-15 laps but it would not come without a challenge as Tim Fuller would come up and battle for the lead and they would go side by side for a few laps until Fuller would use the lap traffic to get around for the lead and hold on for his third win on the season but he would only gain 4 points on points leader Mike Mahanney who would round out the top three with Steve Bernier. Then we would have the JS Steel Sportsman Modified for their 30-lap event and that would start with a bang as there would be a multi-car incident in turn 1 of the opening lap when Jonathan Toohill and Eric Shaw and it would turn into a Walmart parking lot. After the clean-up and restart, there would be a battle up front between Caleb Durgan and Michael Wright for the top spot that would eventually see Michael Wright take the lead. He would hold the lead until just over the midway mark when Travis Bruno would come up and challenge him for the lead and take it on lap 16. Travis Bruno would be out in the lead and he would probably start to think that the race was his until he noticed that Donovan Lussier would be getting bigger in his rearview mirror with two laps to go Lussier would get around him for the lead and win to get his division-leading sixth win of the season as Travis Bruno and Caleb Durgan would round out the top three. Then next we would have the ninth state cannabis Renegades for their 20-lap event The early lead of the race would be Richie Turner until lap seven when he would spin out in turn 1 on the top of three-wide racing. Josh Terry would then inherit the lead and hold it till there were five to go when he would get passed by his brother Tylor Terry. Then the battle would be on upfront between the top two in the points as Tylor Terry and Shawn Duquette would duke it out for the win but the win would go to Tylor Terry for the seventh time in the division this season as Nathaniel Guay and Shawn Duquette would round out the top three. Then we would have the Moore Recycling Mini Stocks in their A and B Main to finish of the night To start the A Main the early leader would be Joe Warren but it will be short-lived as he will only have the lead for 2 laps. As the cagey venture, Josh Laporte would get around him for the lead and would hold it til lap eight. From there the young Cale Manor would get the lead and he would hold on for his first career win over Josh Laporte and Rick Doner. As for the B Main, it would be a wire-to-wire win for Cody Young to finish off the night. The racetrack will be back in action next Thursday night September 12th as they continue the championship battle. Gallery

Dirt Track Racing: Fabian Earth Moving Vermont 200 Day #2 @ Devils Bowl Speedway September 1st 2024

We would have a side-by-side battle for second place in the Novice Sportsman Modified feature between Logan Denis (24) and Nick Autin Neil (5) as Denis would end up finishing second but the winner on the night would be Josh Bussino. It would be the second day of the Fabian Earth Moving Vermont 200 Weekend and it would see the Sportsman Modified, Novice Sportsman Modified, and the 500cc Mini Sprints in action in front of a packed house of fans that have been there all weekend alone. We would have 72 Sportsman Modified battling for the 10k first-place check by being the winner of the Vermont 200. First, they would have to qualify for the 34-car field. The first step in the process would be time trials and the fast time would be James Friesen with a 19.488. Then it would be on to 6 heat races to start setting the lineup for the 200 and the winners would be Dave Camara, Frank Hoard III, Matt Janczuk, Kevin Chaffee, Zach Sobotka, and Troy Audet. Then we would have three Consi races to set the middle part of the field and the winners would be Brent Warren, Richard Murtaugh, and Shawn McPhee. Then to finish off the lineup for the field would be a pair of B Mains Jason Gray and Brian Calabrese and now the field of 34 would be set. Before we get to the Fabian Earth Moving Vermont 200, there would be a couple of other mains that would need to be dealt with first: the 500cc Mini Sprints and the Novice Sportsman Modified. First up would be the 500cc Mini Sprints for ten laps and the battle would be on upfront between Destin St. Clair and Quinn Quenneville when the checkered flag flew the win would go to Destin St. Clair as he would get his first career win. Then we would have the future stars of the Sportsman Modified division with the Novice racers in there 25 lap feature Josh Bussino would get the lead off the start but it would not be without challenge from Logan Denis as they would go after the win and the end it would be Josh Bussino getting the checkered. Then it would be time for the weekend's main event: the Faian Earth Moving Vermont 200 race for the 10k first-place check and the granted start in the end-of-season race at Bridgeport Speedway. The race would start with Matt Janczuk and Frank Hoard III on the front row and the early lead would go to Janczuk as they went after the lead for the first twenty laps. Then there would be a new player going after the lead with Bubba McPhee from like lap 40 to 110 but Janczuk would hold onto the lead. Then we would have Dominic Roselli going after the lead as he had charged his way up from his 24th starting spot and go after the lead for the next 40 laps til lap 150 when he would make a pit stop. Then Janczuk would get his biggest challenge of the night from Chris Edwards who would get around him and take the lead for about ten laps. Then to finish off the night Janczuk would have a pair of challengers in the likes of Josh Sunn and Dominic Roselli but in the end, Janczuk would get the win and collect the ten thousand dollar check for the second year in a row with Sunn and Roselli rounding out the top three.
