High School Boy's Hockey: Saranac Spartans @ #8 Queensbury Spartans February 7th, 2025

Saranac's Nolan Miner (9) splits a pair of Queensbury defenders and gets the shot off in the slot as they were going for the go-ahead goal. It would be an intersectional battle as the Saranac Spartans would travel down to Glens Falls and the Glenns Falls Rec Center to take on the #8 Queensbury Spartans in what might be a preview of the state regional playoffs game next month. The Saranac Spartans would open the goal scoring as Ryan Campbell would get the goal three minutes in and take the 1-0 lead. Queensbury would return and get the game-tying goal just 2 minutes later, thanks to Ethan Kelsey, and tie the game at one. Then, just 93 seconds later, Ethan Kelsey would score again and give the home Spartans the 2-1 lead, and that's where the first period would end. When the teams returned for the second period, the Saranac Spartans would waste little time getting the equalizer as Ryan Campbell would get his second goal, and the game would be tied at two. The game would stay there til the 7:23 mark of the period when the Queensbury Spartans would answer again with two goals in 90 seconds and take the 4-2 lead on goals from Sean Culligan and Rhys Roberts, and that's how the second period would end. When the teams returned for the third period, the Queensbury Spartans would extend their lead to 5-2 just 1:01 into the period. The Saranac Spartans would try to make it interesting down the stretch as Ryan Campell would score at the 11:42 mark of the period to complete his hat trick on the night and make it a 5-3 game. From there, the Queensbury defense would clamp down as they got the win and went to 11-4-1 in the season. We would have Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Hockey action from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as the Beekmantown Eagles host the Northeastern Clinton Cougars as we enter the second half of the conference season. It would take the 10:34 mark of the first period for the Eagles to get on the board with the game's opening goal from Evan Bruyere to make it a 1-0 game. The Cougars answered back and tied the game at one on the power play goal with 13 seconds left in the period from Baylon Cronkrite, and that was where the first period would end. The Eagles would retake the lead at 2-1 just 24 seconds into the second period on the Edward Swenor goal. The Eagles would keep coming and extend the lead to 3-1 on the power play goal from Novak Jarus at the 3:31 mark of the period, and that's how the second period would end. The Spartans would come back and tie the game at the 6:19 mark of the period when Ashton Catlin found the back of the net, and that's where the first period would end tied at one. When the teams returned for the second, Ashton Catlin would find the back of the night again for his second goal at the 3:19 mark of the period and take the 2-1 lead. Then, in the final two minutes of the period, the Spartans would go on a scoring spree they would, scoring three goals in 90 seconds from Ryan Campbell (twice) and Evan Patrie as the Spartans would take the 5-1 lead into the third period.
