Plattsburgh's Owen Chapple (72( watches the puck in the chest for one of his 30-plus saves on the night on the shoot from La Salle's Ben Mannis (14). It would be the opening night of the High School Hockey season, and see the Plattsburgh Hornets host the Lasalle Cadets from Section 2 from the Ameri-can North Arena. The game would start well for the road Cadets as they would get the game's opening goal in the first five minutes of the contest. The Hornets would keep coming and tie the game up at one at the 8:19 mark of the first period when Colby Chase would get his first goal. The game would not stay tied very long cause at the 10:46 mark of the period, just two minutes later, the Hornets would take the 2-1 lead on the Lucas Dashnaw power-play goal to give the Hornets the 2-1 lead, and that's where the first period ended. There would be no scoring in the second period of the game, but both teams would have their chances to take the lead; they just couldn't put it away. When the teams head to the third period, the Cadets do not waste time tying the game up, as they get the equalizer from Michael Nocera at 4:53. The rest of the period and overtime would go by without the teams finding the net again and the game would end in a 2-2 tie. Both goalies would be on point for the opener as Carter Irving for the Cadets and Owen Chapple for the Hornets would have over 30 saves on the net as both teams start the season 0-0-1. The Cadets are back in action on Saturday as they will take on the Beekmantown Eagles. As for the Hornets, they will be back in action Saturday against Niskayuna Hawks. Gallery

Beekmantown's Edward Sweenor (10) flips it over the shoulder of the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid goalie Cassidy Goodman (31) four one of his four goals on the night. It would be the Section VII Division II Boy's Hockey Championship and it would feature the upset-minded #3 Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers taking on the #1 and top ten state-ranked Beekmantown Eagles from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in front of nearly a 1000 fans. The Eagles would get on the board early with the Zach Lapier goal at the 3:04 mark of the first period. Lapier and the Beekmantown Eagles would strike again with 2 more goals 41 seconds apart at the 5:38 and 6:19 mark of the first period to give the Beekmantown Eagles the 3-0 lead on the Zach Lapier. With just over 4 minutes left in the opening period, the Eagles would strike again and take the 4-0 lead this time coming from Edward Sweenor. The game would stay that wall to the third period as there was no scoring in the second period and the teams would just go back and forth with each having their chance but were just unable to light the lamp. However, the Eagles would make up for the no scoring in the second period as they would score twice in the first 32 seconds of the third period as Edward Sweenor would score twice to complete his hat trick and give the Eagles the 6-0 lead. Not being outdone by his teammate Zach Lapier would strike again for his fourth on the night just 39 seconds later and the Eagles now led 7-0. Then with just over ten minutes left in the game, Edward Sweenor would strike to even back up with Zach Lapier who have four goals each to make it an 8-0 lead for the Eagles. Then 6:38 left in the game the other Lapier kid on the team Carter LaPier would score and take the 9-0 lead and win as the Beekmantown Eagles were crowned the 2024 Section VII Champions and will play the Queensbury Spartans in the Quarterfinals of the NYSPHSAA Division 2 Tournament on March 2nd in Queensbury, New York with the winner headed to Buffalo, New York, and the State Frozen Four. Saranac Lake/Lake Placid's Scottie Nicholas (1) with the pad save on Saranac's Adrian Barnes (8) as part of a 51-save effort to get the Lakers win. It would be the second semi-final of the night in the Section VII Boy's Hockey Tournament as the #3 Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers would travel to Plattsburgh and the Amer-Can North Sports Center and take on the #2 seeded Saranac Spartans with the winner getting the #1 Beekmantown Eagles for a sectional title. The favorite Saranac Spartans would get the opening goal of the game at the 9:24 mark of the first period on the Landon Duprey goal to make it 1-0. The Spartans wouldn't waste time making it 2-0 15 seconds later on the Ryan Campbell goal. Then with just 22 seconds left in the period, the Spartans would jump out to a 3-0 lead on the Evan Patrie goal. The Lakers would come out firing and make it a 3-1 game 41 seconds into the second period on the Evan Willette goal. The Lakers would stay hot and make it a one-goal game at the 5:20 mark of the period on the powerplay goal of Adrian McCormick. Then within a 2:27 stretch in the second period, the Lakers would explode for three goals to take a 5-3 lead with goals from Evan Willette, Will Landerault, and Adrian McCormick. The Spartans would answer back with 36 seconds left in the second period on the Ashtyn Caitlin goal to make it a one-goal game at 5-4 at the end of the second period. The game would stay there till the 10:45 mark of the third period when the Lakers's Kyle Duffy would score to make it a 6-4 Lakers lead from there the defense would clinch down and they would add an empty netter from Evan Willette for the hat trick and the 7-4 victory. In the winning effort, Scottie Nicholas would make 51 saves as they would advance to the Section VII Boy's Hockey Championship against the Beekmantown Eagles. Gallery

It would be the semi-finals from the Section VII Boy's Hockey and it would see the #1 Beekmantown Eagles hosting the #5 Plattsburgh Hornets at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena for the right to play for the sectional title on Monday evening. The favor Beekmantown Eagles would get off to a good start as they would score twice in the first period from Sam Bingel and they would have a 2-0 lead at the end of the first. In the second period, the Eagles would get another couple of goals this time from Ryan Demers and Sam Bingel and Bingel would get the hat trick as the Eagles extended their lead to 4-0. In the third period, the Eagles would put the exclamation point on the game as they would add another three goals from Zach Lapier, Braden Nephew, and Pryce Parker as the Eagles got the 7-0 win and advanced to Section VII Boy's Hockey Finals against the winner of the Saranac Spartans and Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers. Northeastern Clinton's Garrett Pilon (10) with the crunching hit on the Beekmantown skater as they go after the loose puck along the boards. It would be the last regular season game for the #8 Beekmantown Eagles as they would host the Northeastern Clinton Cougars at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena on senior night. It would just take 2:27 into the game before we had our first goal from Novak Jarus for the Eagles to give them the early 1-0 lead. The Cougars would come right back and tie the game up at one on the Eddie Bulriss goal just two minutes later. About halfway through the period, the Eagles would retake the lead on the shorthanded goal by Zach Lapier to make it a 2-1 game. The Cougars would answer the bell right back just 20 seconds later on the Wayne Simpson goal to tie the game at two. The Eagles come out swinging in the second period and take the 3-2 lead just seven into the period on the Louis Sweenor goal. The Eagles would stay on fire as they would score again just 1:20 later as Novak Jarus would get his second goal of the game to make it a 4-2 game. The Cougars would come back again and make it a one-goal again on the Wayne Simpson second of the evening to make it a 4-3 game. The game would stay there till the 6:27 mark of the third period when Owen Ebersol would tie the game for the Cougars at four. The Eagles from there would take control of the game as they would get three unanswered goals from Louis Sweenor (two) and Zach Lapier as the Eagles secured the 7-4 win. In the winning effort, the Eagles would finish off the sectional season with a perfect 8-0 record and the regular season at 17-3 while the Northeastern Clinton Cougars fall to 4-14-1 on the season.
