Northeastern Clinton's Alexander Bulriss (2) scored the breakaway goal to get the Cougars on the board in the first period. It would be the second day of the Applebee's Winter Classic, and the first game up in the afternoon would be the consolation game between the Storm Hockey and Northeastern Clinton Cougars as they go after third place. The game would start well for the Storm, as they scored three goals in the first nine minutes from Joe Kosier and Andrew Boldyrev. The Cougars answered back at the 14:11 mark of the period, when Alex Bulriss lit the lamp and made it 3-1 after the 1st period. In the second period, the Storm would have the lone goal of the period from Keegan McGovern at the 13:28 mark of the period to make it a 4-1 game. The Storm would come out in the third period and make it a-1 at 55 seconds in on Alexander Boldyrev's second goal of the game, and then, just about three minutes later, he would finish off the hat trick, making it w-1. Then, at the seven-minute mark of the period, the Cougars would strike twice from Cobe LaFountain and Josh Seymour, making it 5-3 with just under 10 minutes left in the game. It would be the second game of the opening day of the 2025 Applebee's Winter Classic at the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse, and it would see the upstart Northeastern Clinton Cougars taking on the powerhouse Rye Garnet. The Garnet would get the lone goal of the first period from Jake Souza at the 8:51 mark to give them the 1-0 lead after one. In the second period, the Garnet offense would explode, lighting the lamp five times thanks to Max Niejadeik and Ryan Draddy. As for the Cougar, they would have one to answer back, thanks to Cameron Supernaw, and it would be a 6-1 Garnet lead after the period. In the third period, there would be no let-up for the Garnets, as they scored another four goals from Will and Max Niejadlik, along with Trevor Dol, en route to the 10-1 victory. With the win, the Rye Garnets will meet the Beekmantown Eagles to decide the champion of the 2025 edition. It would be a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference match-up from the American North Sports Center between the Northeastern Clinton Cougars and the Saranac Spartans. On this night, we would celebrate the eight careers of the graduating 2025 senior class before the game. Once the game got underway, the Spartans would be in control as they would get the game's opening goal at the 3:00 mark from Gabe Moore for the 1-0 lead. In the eighth minute of the game, the Spartans would make it 2-0 as Landon Giroux would find the back of the net for the Spartans. The Spartans would add another goal late to take the 3-0 lead after the first period. In the second period, the Spartans would get the lone goal of the period from Nolan Miner at the 6:30 mark to extend their lead to 4-0, and that's where the period would end. In the third period, the Spartans would waste little time making it a 5-0 game 12 seconds into the period, thanks to Ryan Campbell lighting the lamp. Then, in the 4th minute, the Spartans would make it a 6-0 game, and Gabe Moore would find the net for his second goal to finish scoring at the 13:20 mark of the third period. Nolan Miner would get his second goal of the game as the Spartans secured the 7-0 victory. In the winning effort, the Spartans would go to 10-7-1 on the season as they head into their next game against the Plattsburgh Hornets on February 17th. We would have Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Hockey action from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as the Beekmantown Eagles host the Northeastern Clinton Cougars as we enter the second half of the conference season. It would take the 10:34 mark of the first period for the Eagles to get on the board with the game's opening goal from Evan Bruyere to make it a 1-0 game. The Cougars answered back and tied the game at one on the power play goal with 13 seconds left in the period from Baylon Cronkrite, and that was where the first period would end. The Eagles would retake the lead at 2-1 just 24 seconds into the second period on the Edward Swenor goal. The Eagles would keep coming and extend the lead to 3-1 on the power play goal from Novak Jarus at the 3:31 mark of the period, and that's how the second period would end. When the teams returned for the third period, the offense would stay hot for the Eagles and make it a 4-1 game at the 6:09 mark when Novak Jarus would get his second goal. Then, with 4:28 left in the game, Jarus would complete the hat trick as he would make it a 5-1 game. The Cougars would add one late from Baylon Cronkrite with three minutes left in the game for his second of the game to make it a 5-2 game. With 1:44 left in the game, Edward Sweenor would get his second goal as they would secure the 6-2 win. In the winning effort, the Eagles netminders would combine for 14 saves on the night as they go to 9-5-1 on the season. They head into their next game against the Plattsburgh Hornets on Friday night as they battle for first place in the standings. The Plattsburgh Hornets would open up the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference portion of their season with a home tilt against the Northeastern Clinton Cougars from the Ameri-can North Sports Complex. The Hornets would get the game's opening goal at the 6:37 mark of the first period when Cooper Holland would sneak it by the netminder for the 1-0 Hornets lead. The game would stay there till the 6:50 mark of the second period when Sam Bezio would snip by the Cougars goalie for the 2-0 lead. The Hornets would keep coming and expand their lead to 3-0 at 9:07 into the second period when Braeden Calkins would score. Then, at the 10:01 mark of the third period, the Hornets would put the icing on the cake with the game's second goal by Sam Bezio and take the 4-0 lead, and from there, they would hold on for the win. In the winning effort, Owen Chapple would make 17 saves for the shutout victory as they go to 3-4-1 on the season before they head into their meeting against the Beekmantown Eagles on Saturday. As for the Northeastern Clinton Cougars, Greyson LaFountain would make 33 saves in the losing effort, and they drop to 0-5 on the season and will have the Saranac Spartans on Saturday at the Rouses Point Civic Center.
