#9 Peru Nighthawks Vs #12 Saranac Spartans March 4th 2026
The Peru Nighthawks would win the 2026 Section VI Big Schools Champions Challenge 47-41 win overthe Saranac Spartans. It would be the second game of the 2026 Section VII Champions Challenges at Clinton Community College, featuring the #9 Peru Nighthawks and the #12 Saranac Spartans as they go after the title of the best of the big schools. The Nighthawks would start great, they look to continue their storied season with a 19-7 quarte In the second quarter, the Spartans would get their shot, and their defense would be right three as they would double up the Nighhawks with a 12-6 quarter, but would trail 25-19 at the intermission When the teams would return for the third quarter the Spartans defense would still be there as they would have a 8-5 quarter with a 30-27 Nighthawks lead as they enter the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the offense for both teams would have an answer, but the Nighhawks would stand tall with a 17-14 quarter to secure the 47-41 victory. In the winning effort, the Nighthawks' Bella Berry would lead the way with 15 points as they go to 17-2 on the season. Section VII Class B Girl's Basketball Finals: #1 Saranac Spartans Vs #2 Northeastern Clinton Cougars February 28th 2026

Saranac's Elizabeth Recore (4) with the three from the corner as the Spartans get the 38-36 victory. It would be the start of the second day of action at the Clinton Community College Florence Gym, as the #1 Saranac Spartans would take on the #2 Northeastern Clinton Cougars for the right to advance to the New York State Class B Tournament. Defense would be the name of the game, as the Cougars would start at just 6-2 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the offense would come alive on both sides, as the Spartans won the quarter 13-12 but trailed 18-15 at the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, it would be another low-scoring affair, as the Spartans won the quarter 11-9, and the Cougars took the slim 27-26 lead into the final 8 minutes. In the fourth quarter, the Spartans would let their defense stand strong as they would come back and win the quarter 12-9 to get the 38-36 victory In the winning effort for the Spartans Madison Gaginer would have 18 points as they advance to the New York State Class B Tournament and the Northeastern Clinton Cougars season would come to end as Grace Praire would have ten points. The Saranac Spartans are crowned the 2026 Section VII Class B Champions, defeating Northeastern Clinton 38-36. It would be the last game of the opening day of the Section VII Championship weekend as the #1 Saranac Spartans would meet up with the #2 Saranac Lake Red Storm for the Boys' Basketball Class C Championship. It would be a tight, high-scoringgame to get it started as the Red Storm would have ta19-17 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the game would stay close, but the Red Storm would extend their lead by 1 with a 13-12 quarter and take the 32-29 lead at intermission. It would be the semi-finals of the Section VII Division II Boys' Hockey playoffs at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena, and it would see a rematch of last year's finals as the #1 Beekmantown Eagles would host the #4 Saranac Spartans. The Eagles would waste little time jumping out to a lead, scoring two goals in the first 3:35 of the game from Edward Sweenor and Mason Carter, taking a 2-0 lead. The Spartans would get on the board at the 13:18 mark of the period on Gabe Moore's goal, and that's how the period would end, 2-1. The Eagles would be able to extend their lead to 3-1 at the 8:08 mark of the period on the Ivan Roy goal, and that would be the lone goal of the period at 3-1 Eagles as they enter the third. The Eagles would strike for three goals in the first 1:49 of the period from Mason Carter (second of the night), Pryce Parker, and Edward Sweenor (second of the night). TheSpartans would also add one in that stretch from Adrian Barnes to make it 6-2. Northeastern Clinton's Hayden Schad (3) with the hard hit along the end boards on the Spartans skater to break up the play. It would be the opening game of the 2026 Section VII Division 2 Boys' Hockey tournament, and it would feature the #4 Saranac Spartans hosting the #5 Northeastern Clinton Cougars from the AC North Arena, with the winner playing the #1 Beekmantown Eagles in the semi-finals two days later. The Spartans would get the first two goals of the game, 15 seconds apart at the 9:20 mark of the first period, when Noah Barton and Robbie Squier would score for the 2-0 lead. The Cougars would answer back at the 11:22 mark of the period and cut the deficit to 1 on the Scott Wrye goal to make it 2-1. The game would stay there until the 12:34 mark of the second period, when Killian Baker would score to make it a 3-1 game and regain their two-goal advantage. The Spartans would strike again 16 seconds later when Noah Barton would light the lamp for the second time on the night, giving them a 4-1 lead, and that's where the second period would end. In the third period, the Spartans would add one more at the 8:46 mark from Adrian Barnes as they secured the 5-1 victory. Saranac Lake/Lake Placid's Ayden McCormick (10) with the deke around Saranac's Brody McComber (4) to gain seperation for the shot on net. It would be the battle of the Saranacs take two this time, with the meeting up in Saranac Lake, as the winner would get the third seed in the upcoming playoffs, and it would be senior night for the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers. The game would remain scoreless until the 14:54 mark of the first period, when the Lakers would strike from Oren Preston for a 1-0 lead, and that's where the first period would end. The Lakers would waste little time in the 2nd period, scoring just 50 seconds in on the Braden Harvey goal. Then, just under two minutes later, they stretched it to a 3-0 lead when Ayden McCormick scored, taking control of the game. Then, with just ten seconds left in the period, the Spartans would get on the board with the Robbie Squier goal and make it a 3-1 game at the end of the second. Then, as they would start the third, the Lakers would regain their three-goal lead at 4-1 on Eli McCormick as he squeezes it through the pads. The Spartans would once again make it a two-goal game at 4-2 when Ryan Campbell would score at the 8:35 mark of the period. The Lakers would have another just over two minutes later when Eli McCormick would get his second of the night for the 5-2 game. Then, with just over two minutes left in the game, Eli McCormick would get his hat trick on the empty net goal and make it 6-2. Then, with 1:30 left in the game, the Lakers put the finishing touches on it with a power-play goal from Braden Harvey, securing the 7-2 win. In the winning effort, the Lakers clinch the third seed in the playoffs, as Scottie Nicholas made 25 saves, and they go to 8-10-1 on the season.
