Plattsburgh's Preston O'Neal (24) with the floater in the lane as the Hornets would get the 47-39 victory. It would start the 2025 portion for the Plattsburgh Hornets as they would host the Ticonderoga Sentinels in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Basketball action. The Hornets would start hot, and their defense would be up to task as they would shut them out in the first quarter at 11-0. When the second quarter would get underway, the Sentinels would find their shot, get on the offense,e and get in the game with a 14-12, although they would have the 23-14 lead as the team would head into the halftime break. When the teams returned for the third, the teams would play another tight quarter with some high scoring as the Hornets would win the quarter 17-16 and take the 40-30 lead into the 4th. In the fourth quarter, defense would be the game's name as the Sentinels would try and get back in the game, but the 9-7 would not be enough as the Hornets would hold on for the 47-39 victory. With the win, the Plattsburgh Hornets go to 5-2 on the season as they head into their next game Thursday night at Saranac. Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Hockey: Plattsburgh Hornets @ Beekmantown Eagles January 4th, 2025

Plattsburgh's Owen Chapple (72) with one of his 29 saves on the night as Beekmantown's Edward Sweenor (56) came in on the breakaway scoring chance. It would be the classic Section VII rivalry with the Beekmantown Eagles hosting the Plattsburgh Hornets from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. Still, this game would have a different meaning today as it would be the annual Hannah's Hope as they raise money to help find a cure for the horrible disease that has stricken the girl. The game would start fast and well for the home Eagles as Edward Sweenor would light the lamp just 29 seconds into the game for the early 1-0 Eagles lead. The Hornets would come back and tie the game at the 3:55 mark on the rebound goal from Cooper Holland. Then, no more than 90 seconds after that, the upset-minded Hornets would take the 2-1 lead on the powerplay goal from Braeden Calkins. The lead for the Hornets would be short-lived as Edward Sweenor would get the tying goal just over a minute later for his second of the game, and the first period would end tied at 2. In the second period, the Eagles would get the lone goal from Edward Sweenor to complete the hat trick on the day at the 6:10 mark to make it a 3-2 game. Then, in the third period, in the early minutes, the Eagles would make it a two-goal game on the Novak Jarus goal at 4-2, and that's where the game would finish. In the winning effort, Jack Bell would make 30 saves on the night and go to 4-3 on the season as they head into their game against Northeastern Clinton on January 7th. The Plattsburgh Hornets would open up the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference portion of their season with a home tilt against the Northeastern Clinton Cougars from the Ameri-can North Sports Complex. The Hornets would get the game's opening goal at the 6:37 mark of the first period when Cooper Holland would sneak it by the netminder for the 1-0 Hornets lead. The game would stay there till the 6:50 mark of the second period when Sam Bezio would snip by the Cougars goalie for the 2-0 lead. The Hornets would keep coming and expand their lead to 3-0 at 9:07 into the second period when Braeden Calkins would score. Then, at the 10:01 mark of the third period, the Hornets would put the icing on the cake with the game's second goal by Sam Bezio and take the 4-0 lead, and from there, they would hold on for the win. In the winning effort, Owen Chapple would make 17 saves for the shutout victory as they go to 3-4-1 on the season before they head into their meeting against the Beekmantown Eagles on Saturday. As for the Northeastern Clinton Cougars, Greyson LaFountain would make 33 saves in the losing effort, and they drop to 0-5 on the season and will have the Saranac Spartans on Saturday at the Rouses Point Civic Center. It would be the home opener for the Plattsburgh Hornets as they would host the Northeastern Clinton Cougars in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Basketball action. I would start slow, with both teams missing their shots early in the game as they were getting a feel for the night, but in the second half of the quarter, the teams would feel better, and the Cougars would have the 5-point lead at 15-10 at the end of the first. In the second quarter, the Hornets would come alive on offense, and their defense would be shut down as they would explode for a 15-2 quarter and take a 25-17 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half, the Hornets would stay hot out there as they would have a 17-4 quarter, expand on their run at 32-6, and take the 42-21 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the teams would play a little more equal as the Hornets would call all of the dogs and have a 14-11 quarter as they would get the 56-32 victory. In the winning effort, the Hornets would go to 4-1 on the season as they head into their game next week against Hudson Falls. It would be another night of Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls's Basketball action, this time from the Plattsburgh High School, and it would see the Hornets tipping off against the Ausable Valley Patriots. The game would be tight as both teams found the basket at a good clip and tied at 12 after the first quarter. Both teams would keep up their good scoring in the second quarter, but the Hornets would be a little better in the quarter at 13-11 and take the 25-23 lead into the break. When the teams would return for the third quarter, the defense would step up for the Patriots, and they would have a 10-6 quarter and take the 33-31 lead into the final quarter. Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Girl's Basketball:Peru Nighthawks @ Plattsburgh Hornets December 11th 2024

Plattsburgh's Alyssa Hemingway (14) with the layup that she puts over Peru's Resse Duprey (5) for the score. It would be the opening night of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference season for the Plattsburgh Hornets, and the Peru Nighthawks would renew their rivalry again on the hardwood. The game would start well for the Nighthawks as they would jump to a 19-12 lead after the first eight minutes. In the second quarter, the Nighthawks would stay hot as they would have a 19-14 quarter and take the 38-26 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, they played an even third quarter, with the Nighthawks winning the quarter 11-10 and taking the 49-36. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets would do their best to get back in the game with a shutdown defense, and they would win the quarter 10-2, but it would not be enough on this night as the Nighthawks would get the 51-46 win and the Nighthawks would go to 3-0 on the season while the Hornets fall to 0-1 on the season.
