Clinton Community College Holiday Classic Boy's Basketball: Peru Nighthawks Vs Saranac Spartans December 27th 2024

Saranac's Henry Napper (14) breaks ahead of the pack and lays it off the window for the score as the Spartans get the 61-44 victory. It would be the third game of the opening day of the Clinton Community College Holiday Classic as the Saranac Spartans and the Peru Nighthawks would look up, and the Nighthawks would be looking for their first win of the season. It would be a close game at the start, as both teams feel each other out. The Spartans would have a slim 13-9 lead after the first quarter. The game would remain close through the second quarter as the Spartans would win the quarter 16-12 and take the 29-21 lead into the break. When the teams would return for the second half, they would find their offense and take control of the game with a 20-6 quarter and have a convincing 49-27 lead as they would enter the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Spartans would empty the bench and let the rest get in the game, and the Nighthawks would win the quarter 14-6, but it would not be enough as the Saranac Spartans would get the 5-41 victory. In the winning effort, the Saranac Spartans would go to 2-3 on the season as they will take on the Beekmantown on the second day as they go for the title. Clinton Community College Holiday Classic Boy's Basketball: Malone Huskies Vs Beekmantown Eagles December 27th 2024

Malone's Bradley Popure with the three from the wing, and he would later in the game hit the game-winner as the buzzer would go for the 60-59 win. It would be the annual return of the Clinton Community College Holiday Classic. The day's opening game would see a matchup between the Beekmantown Eagles from Section VII and the Malone Huskies from Section X in a rematch from an earlier match this season. It would be a great start for the Malone Huskies as they roll out to a 15-4 lead after the first quarter with some great pressure defense. The teams would be more evenly matched in the second quarter as the Eagles would find their offense. It would be an 18-16 quarter for the Huskies, and they would take the 33-20 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, both offenses would stay hot, and it would be a 24-21 quarter for the Eagles, but the Huskies would hold onto the lead at 54-44 lead. When the fourth quarter would start, the Huskie offense would go to sleep as the Eagles would step up their defense, and they would have a 15-6 quarter. The game would come down to the buzzer when Bradley Popure hit the buzzer-beater to give the Huskies the 60-59 victory. In the winning effort, they will go to 4-3 on the season as they will play the Peru Nighthawks tomorrow for a chance to win the Clinton Community College Holiday Classic. Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Basketball: Northeastern Clinton Cougars @ Plattsburgh Hornets December 19th, 2024

Northeastern Clinton's Logen Magoob (23) with the block on Plattsburgh's Ian Detulleo (2) as he attempted the lay up. It would be the home opener for the Plattsburgh Hornets as they would host the Northeastern Clinton Cougars in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Basketball action. I would start slow, with both teams missing their shots early in the game as they were getting a feel for the night, but in the second half of the quarter, the teams would feel better, and the Cougars would have the 5-point lead at 15-10 at the end of the first. In the second quarter, the Hornets would come alive on offense, and their defense would be shut down as they would explode for a 15-2 quarter and take a 25-17 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half, the Hornets would stay hot out there as they would have a 17-4 quarter, expand on their run at 32-6, and take the 42-21 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the teams would play a little more equal as the Hornets would call all of the dogs and have a 14-11 quarter as they would get the 56-32 victory. In the winning effort, the Hornets would go to 4-1 on the season as they head into their game next week against Hudson Falls. Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Class D Finals Boy's Basketball: #1 Crown Point Panthers Vs #3 Schrron Lake Wildcats March 2nd, 2024

Schrron Lake's Austin Hartwell (11) with the fingertip block on the shot from Ctown Matt Beeman (31) on the three-point attempt. It would be the fourth game of the day and seventh game of championship weekend and it would be for the Class D Boy's title it would feature the #1 Crown Pont Panthers and the #4 Schroon Lake Wildcats as they battle in the rematch of last years title which was also a thriller. The game would be starting well for the top-seeded Crown Point Panthers as they would jump out to the big lead at 20-8 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Wildcats would start their chargeback with a 15-8 quarter but the Panthers would still have the 30-23 advantage as they headed into the intermission period. When the teams returned for the third quarter defense would be the name of the game as the Wildcats would have a slim advantage of 8-7 for the quarter and the Panthers would still hold the lead at 37-31. When the teams went into the fourth quarter the Wildcats would leave everything out there and tie the game at 41 with a 10-4 quarter and they would even have a shot at the end to win it regulation but the game would head to overtime. In the overtime frame, the teams would trade baskets back and forth and a second overtime would be needed but in the second overtime, the Wildcats would get control and win the overtime 19-11 get the 63-55 victory, and be crowned the 2024 Class D Section VII champions. Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Class C Finals Boy's Basketball: #1 Moriah Vikings Vs #2 Northern Adirondack Bobcats March 2nd, 2024

Moriah's Logan Gilbo (13) with a hard contact on Northern Adirondack's Tucker Kingston (5) for the score. It would be the third game of the day at the NYSPHSAA Section VII Basketball championships and this time it would be for the Boys Basketball Class C title and it would be #1 Moriah Vikings and the #2 Northern Adirondack Bobcats In the battle of David versus Goliath the game would be going the way of David as the Northern Adirondack Bobcats would have the 21-17 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Vikings would start to knock the rust off and get in the groove but the Bobcats would play a scrappy game the Vikings would win the quarter 14-13 but the Bobcats would have the 34-31 lead at the intermission. In the second half though it would be the Vikings off their past ten sectional title that would come out and they would start making their shoot as they would have a 24-14 quarter and take the 55-48 lead into the last eight minutes. In the fourth quarter, the Bobcats would do their best to get the lead back but Goliath would just be too much on this day as the Vikings won the last quarter 15-14 and secured the 70-62 victory. In the winning effort for the Vikings, Cooper Allen would lead the way with 27 points. The Moriah Vikings would make their annual return to the NYSPHSAA Class C Tournament and will play the winner of the Section X and II game on Saturday, March 9th back at Clinton Community College for the right to make the trip back down to Glenns Falls and the Cool Insuring Arena. Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Class B Finals Boy's Basketball: #1 Saranac Lake Red Storm Vs #2 Northeastern Clinton Cougars March 2nd, 2024

Saranac Lake's Caleb Akey (11) with the jumper along the baseline as he tries to avoid the block attempt of Northeastern Clinton's Ashton Turner (10). It would be the opening game of the second day of the Section VII Basketball Championships from Clinton Community College of 5 on the schedule today. It would see the top-seeded Saranac Lake Red Storm taking on the #3 Northeastern Clinton Cougars in the class B Boys Basketball finals. The Cougars would be looking for the upset from the beginning as they would get off to the early lead at 13-10 after the first eight minutes of the game. In the second quarter, the Cougars would stay hot as they used the quarter to pull ahead with a 17-10 quarter to have a 30-20 lead at the intermission when the teams returned for the third quarter the Red Storm would regroup and come out looking to take the game back over with a 19-15 quarter to cut the lead nearly in half at 45-39 Cougars. In the fourth and final quarter, the Cougars would keep it together and regain the edge with a 16-12 quarter and get the ten-point win and a 61-51 section vii class B boys basketball title. In the winning effort for the Cougars Collen Castine would lead the way with 23 points. With the win the Northeastern Clinton Cougars advance to the NYSPHSAA Class B Tournament and will play the winner of section ii on March 6th at Averl Park. Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Class A Finals Boy's Basketball: #1 Beekmantown Eagles Vs #2 Plattsburgh Hornets March 1st, 2024

Plattsburgh's Dan Hartmn (11) with the runner in the lane over Beekmantown's Evan Dixon (22) as part of a four-point game. It would be the second game of the tripleheader of the Section VII Championship of Basketball Day 1 from Clinton Community College. It would be the only boys' game of the first day as the #1 Beekmantown Eagles and the #2 Plattsburgh Hornets would meet up for the Class A Finals. The game would start with the Plattsburgh Hornets having the upset on their mind and they would show it with a 19-13 quarter to get the game started. In the second quarter, the Eagles would start to find their shot, take a bite out of the Hornet's lead with a 13-8 quarter, and make it a one-point game at the half with the Hornets holding onto the 1-point lead at 27-26. When the teams returned for the second half the see-saw affair would continue as the Eagles would get that 1 point and have a 14-13 quarter to make the game even as they headed into the fourth quarter tied at 40. In that fourth quarter, the offenses on both sides would come alive but the Eagles would be just too much down the stretch as they would have a 20-14 quarter and get the 60-54 victory. In the winning effort, Beekmantown's Josh Sands would lead the way with a game-high 20 points and go to 16-5 on the season. With the win, the Beekmantown Eagles enter the NYSPHSAA Tournament and will play the winner of section ii on Wednesday from Averill Park. Gallery

Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Class A Semi-Finals Boy's Basketball: #3 Peru Nighthawks @ #2 Plattsburgh Hornets February 27th, 2024

Plattsburgh's Logan Rodriguez (24) goes right back up with the offensive rebound for the Hornet's score. It would be time for some playoff basketball at Plattsburgh High as the Hornets would host long-time rival the #3 Peru Nighthawks in the semi-finals of the Section VII Class A Boy's Basketball Tournament with the winner getting the #1 Beekmantown Eagles at Clinton Community College on March 1st. The upset-minded Nighthhawks would get off to a good start and have the lead through the early stages of the game but the Hornets would find their shot and have the 21-20 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Hornets would start to pull away from the Nighthawks as they would have a 21-10 quarter and take the 42-30 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half and the third quarter the Hornets would stay hot as they would double up the Nighthawks with a 20-10 quarter and take a 60-40 lead into the 4th quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets would put the icing on the cake with a 20-14 quarter and secure the 80-54 victory. In the winning effort, the Hornets would go to 15-6 on the season and meet with the Beekmantown Eagles for the Section VII Class A Boy's Basketball crown while the Peru Nighthawks season comes to an end at 3-18. Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Basketball: #1 Moriah Vikings @ Plattsburgh Hornets February 20th, 2024

Moriah's Chase McGiness (22) stretches out for the lay-in as he crashes down the lane for the score. It would be the regular season's last game for the Plattsburgh Hornets and the #1 Moriah Vikings as they would host them at the Hornets Nest in front of a full nest. The Hornets would not be a perfect host to the Moriah Vikings as they would jump out and take control of the game with a 28-7 first quarter. In the second quarter, the Vikings would look to return to the game with a 17-11 quarter, although the Hornets would take the 39-24 lead into the intermission. When the teams return for the second half, the third quarter will be very evenly contested as the Hornets will have a slim 21-18 quarter and expand their lead to 60-42 into the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter, the Vikings would do their best to get back in the game with a 12-7 quarter, but that wouldn't be enough as the Hornets would get a victory of 67-54. Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boys' Basketball: Crown Point Panthers @ Plattsburgh Hornets February 10th, 2024

Crown Point's Matt Beeman (31) would get up and get tall as he would block the shot from Plattsburgh's Dan Hartman (11) in front of the basket. It would be an interconference matchup inside section seven boys' basketball this Saturday afternoon as the Plattsburgh Hornets would be one of the top teams in the section this year the Crown Point Panthers. The bigger Plattsburgh Hornets would leave little to the imagination on this day as they would have their way with the Panthers in the first half and have a 47-19 lead at the break. When the teams returned for the third quarter it would be more of the same as the Hornets would have a 27-15 quarter and take a 74-34 lead into the fourth. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets would empty the bench and get everyone in the game and the Panthers would win the quarter 16-10 but on the scoreboard, it would be all Hornets on this afternoon with an 84-51 victory. In the winning effort, the Hornets would improve to 10-8 on the season and the Panthers would fall to 12-5 as both teams are coming down the playoff stretch and are looking forward to the sectionals.
