Potsdam Sandstoners Vs Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers Vs Potsdam Sandstoners North Country Shootout January 8th 2022

Potsdam's Sophie Luazon (17) with the backhand goal on the rebound. It would be the third-place game of the North Country Shootout and it would feature the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers and the Potsdam Sandstoners. The Sandstoners would get the opening goal of the game from Madison Weaver at the 10:46 nark of the period to make it 1-0. The Sandstoners would extend the lead to 2-0 on the Anna Nelson goal. When the teams came back for the second period the Sandstoners would extend their lead to 3-0 at the 3:38 mark of the period on the Rylie Bicknell goal. Then with 40 seconds left in the period, they would make it 4-0 on Isabel Boyd's goal. In the third period, the Sandstoners would put the icing on the cake as they would get a fifth goal on the Sophie Lauzon goal at the 3:49 mark. Then at the 7:07 mark of the Lakers would score from Taylor Whitson to avoid the shutout and make it a 5-1 game. Then at 10:41, the Sandstoners would put the icing on the cake with a goal. NCAA Division III Men's Hockey W.B. Mason Winter Classic Albertus Mangus Falcons @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals January 7th 2022

Albertus Mangus' Coleton Cianci with the goal as he breaks in on net with the two on one advantage. The game would start off slow as these evenly matched teams would feel each other out and there would be no scoring in the first period. In the second period, the home Cardinals would get the opening goal at the 3:18 mark from Paul Bryer for the 1-0 lead. Although the lead would be short-lived as the Falcons would tie the game at one just over 90 seconds later on the Coleton Cianci goal. Then with just over five minutes left in the period, the Falcons would take the lead 2-1 on the Tim Manning goal. Although with 51 seconds left in the second period Adam Trentowicz would score on the powerplay to tie the game two. The Cardinals would take the lead back just 90 seconds into the third period on Paul Bryer's second goal of the game to make it 3-2. The third period would start off good for the visiting Falcons as they would get two powerplay goals and an even-strength goal 115 seconds apart from Gagnon, Sam Anderson (twice) to take the 5-3 lead. Then just over the halfway mark of the third period Thomas Maia would score for the Cardinals to make it a 5-4 game. Although with just under 90 seconds left in the game the Falcons would take the 6-4 lead and win on the empty netter by Ryan Colwell. In the losing effort, Anthony Del Tuffo would make 21 saves as the Cardinals fall to 7-5-2 on the season. Next up for the Cardinal will be a matchup on January 9th against Kings while Albertus Mangus will play Kings on January 8th. Gallery.

Kenmore/Grand Island @ Plattsburgh Hornets North Country Shootout January 5th 2022

Kennmore/Grand Island's Carolyn Bourgeault (30) with the shoulder save as part of a 20 save night. The game would start off good for the Hornets as they would get the lone goal of the first period from Ada Johnson for the 1-0 lead. Although Kenmore/Grand Island would answer back with three goals of their own in the second period from Carissa Buyea, Isabella Jayme, and Megan Pinzel to make it a 3-1 game. Then just a minute into the third period Kenmore/Grand Island would make it 4-1 on the Emiliana Cassillo goal. Although the Hornets would show some life and make it a 4-2 game on the Amaya Abellard goal at the 9:18 marl. Although in the closing minute of the game the Kenmore/Grand Island squad would ice the game away with an empty netter on Megan Pinzel's second goal of the game to secure the 5-2 win and tournament title. In the winning effort, Kenmore/Grand Island's Carolyn Vourgeault would make 20 saves while Amella Lebrun makes 20 saves on the night. Gallery

Saranac Lake Placid Lakers @ Plattsburgh Hornets Upstate New York Girls Hockey League January 5th 2022

Plattsburgh's Rachel Madore (22) stuffs the puck in the back of the net as part of a two-goal night. It would be a section vii game inside the Upstate New York Girl's Hockey League as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers. It would take a bit but the home Hornets would get on the board first with a goal at the 6:47 mark of the first period when Amaya Abellard would light the lamp for the 1-0 lead. Then just two minutes later the Hornets would expand their lead to 2-0 on the Amanda Vaughn goal. Then with just under two minutes left in the opening period, the Hornets would take a 3-0 lead on the Rachel Madore power-play goal. When the teams came back for the second period the teams would play the period very evenly with the Hornets getting the only goal of the period in the final minute on Rachel Madore's second goal of the night to make it 4-0. In the third period, the Hornets would put the icing on the cake with a goal by Ada Johnson to secure a 5-0 win. In the winning effort, Angelica LeBraun would make 11 saves in the shutout victory as they went to 4-1-1 on the season. Gallery

Northern Adirondack Bobcats @ Peru Nighthawks Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Girl's Basketball January 4th 2022

Peru's Isabella Sypek (5) drives from the three-point area to the basket. It would be a matchup between the Champlain and Mountain Valley as the Peru Nighthawks would host the Northern Adirondack Bobcats. The game would not be going that well for the home Nighthawks as they would be down 23-9 at the break. In the second half, they wouldn't give although the Bobcats would be too much for them on this day as they win the half 27-15 and secure the 50-24 victory and Alexis Belrose would lead the way with 14 points on the night. Chazy Eagles @ Seton Catholic Knights Mountain Valley Athletic Conference Girl's Basketball January 4th 2022

Chazy's Hadley Lucas (15) makes contact with Seton Catholic's Allisyn Johnston (23) as she cuts the corner towards the basket. It would be a Mountain Valley Athletic Conference tilt from Seton Catholic as they would host Chazy Eagles in girl's basketball. It would be a low-scoring game to get going as the Knights would have an 8-2 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Knights would start to find their stride as they would have a 12-2 quarter and expand their lead to 20-4 at the intermission. When the teams came back for the third quarter the Knights would stay hot with a 13-2 quarter and have a 33-6 lead as they headed to the fourth. In the fourth quarter, the Knights would back it down with the game outcome already determined with a 4-2 quarter and secure the 37-8 win. In the winning effort, Madyson Whalen would lead the way with ten points as the Knights go to 3-4 on the season while the Eagles fall to 2-6. Gallery

Norwood-Norfolk Icemen @ Saranac Chiefs December 31st 2021 NYSPHSAA Boy's Hockey

Norwood-Norfolk's forward with the quick wrister on net. It would be a non-conference tilt at the Amer-can North Sports Complex as the Saranac Chiefs would host the Norwood-Norfolk Icemen. The game would start off tight with two evenly matched teams as they would go through the first period with neither getting a goal. Although that would be changed quickly in the second period when the Chiefs would score 1:34 into the period on the Zack O'Connell goal. The Icemen would not let the deficit last long as they would get the equalizer at the 5:10 mark on a goal from John Front to tie the game at 1. They wouldn't waste time taking the lead either as they would wait just 90 seconds to make it 2-1 on the Ryley Ashley goal. The Chiefs would continue the fight through the period and tie the game up at 2 with just over a minute left in the period on the Hayden Buckley goal. Halfway through the third period the Icemen would regain the lead at 3-2 on the Braeden Bethel goal and secure the victory. Gallery

Norwood-Norfolk Icemen @ Northeastern Clinton Cougars December 30th 2021 NYSPHSAA Boy's Hockey

Northeastern Clinton's Lucas Hemingway (13) finds the back of the net on the short post for the goal. It would be a non-conference game at the Rouses Point Civic Center as the Northeastern Clinton Cougars would host the Norwood-Norfolk Icemen. The game would start off slow as the teams would trade a pair of goals in the first period with Owen Ebersol getting on the board for the Cougars. In the second period, the offenses would explode as they would combine for five goals. Scoring for the Cougars was Winfield Simpson and Reid LaValley while getting on the board for the Icemen would be Jayden Grant, Gavin Phillips, and Ryley Ashley to make it a 4-3 Icemen game. When they returned for the third period the offenses would stay hot as they would combine for six goals scoring for the Cougars would be Peyton Palmer and Owen Ebersol (twice, to finish off a four-goal night) giving the Icemen the 7-6 win. In the winning effort, the Icemen go to 3-7 while the Cougars fall to 1-4 on the season. The Icemen will be back in action tomorrow as they travel 30 minutes up the road and take on the Saranac Chiefs while the Cougars have to wait till next week and take on the same Saranac Chiefs. Potsdam Sandstoners @ Beekmantown Eagles December 29th 2021 NYSPHSAA Boy's Hockey

Potsdam's Chase Rozier (30) dives back across the paint and gets the paddle save on Beekmantown's Dalton Kane (11). It would be nonleague action at the Stafford Ice Arena as the Beekmantown Eagles would host the Potsdam Sandstoners. The game would start off good for the home Eagles as Luke Moser would get the quick goal at 1:57 of the first period for the early 1-0 lead. The Sandstoners would answer back just over two minutes later and tie the game at 1 on the John Friot goal. The Eagles would be in control the rest of the period with four more goals coming from Dalton Kane, Colin Latinville, Reid Fessette, and Luke Moser (second of the game) and have a commanding 5-1 lead at the end of one. In the second period, the Eagles would stay hot with another three goals Luke Moser (third and fourth of the night), Sweenor (shorthanded), and have an 8-1 lead. In the third period, the Eagles still couldn't be shut down as they would get another three goals Keegan Rodier, Anthony Marion, and Cooper Burdo to secure the 11-1. In the winning effort, the Eagles go to 5-2 while the Sandstoners fall to 1-7 on the season. Gallery

Peru Nighthawks Vs Saranac Chiefs Clinton Community College Holiday Classic Girl's Basketball December 28th 2021

Saranac's Lia Parker (14) with three from the wing over Peru's Kortney McCarthy (3). It would be the final game of the Clinton Community College Holiday Classic and would feature the Saranac Chiefs and the Peru Nighthawks. The game would start off great for the Chiefs as their offense would explode out of the gate and build up a lead of 24-2 by the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Chiefs would go cold and the defense would step up for the Nighthawks as it would be a low-scoring 7-4 quarter and the Chiefs would have a 31-6 lead at the intermission. In the third quarter, the Nighthawks would be able to stay with them and actually have a 9-8 quarter and make it a 39-15 game headed to the fourth. In the fourth quarter, the Nighthawks would win the quarter but their slow start of the gate would be their undoing as they win the quarter 13-11 but the Chiefs would hold on for the 50-28 win. In the winning effort, the Chiefs go to 7-2 while the Nighthawks fall to 5-4 on the season. Gallery
