#4 Suffern Mounties Vs #7 Canton Golden Bears March 15th 2026
The Suffern Mounties are crowned the 2026 NYSPHSAA Boys' Hockey State Champions with there 5-2 victory over the Canton Golden Bears. It was Championship Sunday at the LECOM Harbor Center as all roads led to Buffalo, where the #4 Suffern Mounties from Section I took on the #7 Canton Golden Bears from Section X, with both teams looking to go home with the title. The upset‑minded Golden Bears opened the scoring just 1:58 into the game on a goal from Caleb Briggs for a 1–0 lead. The Mounties answered back 90 seconds later on a goal by Matthew Norum to tie the game at one. At the 11:47 mark of the first period, the Golden Bears regained the lead, 2–1, on a goal from Owen Logan, and that’s how the first period ended. At the 14:17 mark of the second period, Kevin Windwer scored to tie the game, and the period ended knotted at two. The game remained tied until the 14:47 mark of the third period, when Sean Tyrell made his presence known by giving the Mounties a 3–2 lead. In the closing minutes, the Mounties added a pair of empty‑net goals from Sean Tyrell and Anthony Ruggiero as they secured their 4th state title in the last five years. In the winning effort for the Mounties, Tyler Grossman made 25 saves, while Canton’s Gavin Schryver stopped 30 shots on the afternoon. Gallery.

West Genesee's Matthew Schneid (11) with goal he sneaks by Canton's Gavin Schryver (1) for the 1-0 lead. It would be the second semi-final of the NYSPHSAA Division I Boys' Hockey Championships at LECOM Harbor Center, featuring the #3 West Genesee Wildcats from Section III and the #7 Canton Golden Bears from Section X, with the winner facing the #4 Suffern Mounties for the title tomorrow. The Wildcats would get the opening goal of the game at the 10:17 mark from Matthew Schneid for the 1-0 lead. The Golden Bears would answer back in the last minute of the period, with Caleb Briggs tying the game at one as the first period ended. The Golden Bears would come out on fire in the second period and take the lead 3:35 in on an Owen Logan goal, making it 2-1. The Wildcats would answer right back 37 seconds later on the Sammy Vormwald goal, making it 2-2. The game would stay there through the third period, with no scoring, and they would need overtime to decide the last spot in the championship. It wouldn't take long, though, as Owen Logan would score just 54 seconds in as the Golden Bears secure the 3-2 victory and their spot in the finals tomorrow. Section X Boy's Lacrosse: Canrton Golden Bears @ Plattsburgh Hornets April 19th 2023

It would be the home opener and the first home game for the Hornets in over two seasons and they would have a conference game against the Canton Golden Bears. The game would not start off the greatest for the Hornets but they would stay in and only be down 3-1 after the first with the lone goal scorer for the Hornets being Declan Baker. In the second quarter, the defenses would stand tall on both sides as there would be no scoring in the quarter and the Bears would take the 3-1 lead into the break. Although when the teams returned for the third quarter the Bear's offense would come to life as they would explode for five in the quarter. Then in the fourth quarter, the Bears would have another 3-1 quarter with Declan Baker scoring again for the Hornets as the Bears would get the 11-2 win. In the winning effort, the Bears go to 2-1 on the season while Owen Pray would make 29 saves as the Hornets fall to 0-5 on the season. Gallery

The game would not start good for the Hornets as they would be down 3-0 after the 1st quarter. In the second quarter they would be outscored 2-1 with the goal from Joshua Laravia and be down 5-1 at the intermission. When the teams came back for the second half the game would only get worse as they would be outscored 8-0 and fall 13-1 to the Canton Golden Bears. In the lose the Hornets fall to 0-3 on the season and there next game is on the road against the Potsdam Sandstoners. Gallery

In the second quarter they would be outscored 2-1 with the goal from Joshua Laravia and be down 5-1 at the intermission. When the teams came back for the second half the game would only get worse as they would be outscored 8-0 and fall 13-1 to the Canton Golden Bears. Peru Indians Vs Canton Golden Bears High School Boy's Basketball March 8th 2018 New York State Class B Quarterfinals

Peru's Jake Casey (11) among the bigs with the shot over the defender. The Peru Indians would host the Canton Golden Bears in the First Round of the New York State Class B Playoffs. The Golden Bears would jump out to a quick 15-8 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Golden Bears would expand on the lead with 16-4 quarters and have a 31-12 lead at intermission. When the teams came back for the second half the Indians would regroup but the Golden Bears would still be too much and win the quarter 14-10 and take a 45-22 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Golden Bears would let off the throttle and cruise as the Indians win the quarter 11-7 although the Golden Bears would win the game 54-33. With the lose the Peru Indians season would come to end. Gallery
