The Cardinals would jump out to a 1-0 lead just 5:18 into the game on the Jake Sacratini goal. The game would stay there till the 5:08 mark of the second period when the Red Dragons would get the qualifier from Morley Phillips. Then, just 2:16 later, the Red Dragons would take the lead at 2-1 on the Matthew Despirit goal. The game would stay there until just 45 seconds into the third period, when the CardinaPls would tie the game on Lonan Bulger's goal at 2. In overtime, the Cardinals would get the game-winner on a 2 1 breakout play when Thierry Lizotte would tap in the rebound for the 3-2 victory. It would be the 6th annual teddy bear toss night to benefit the local youth, as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would get the home portion of their SUNYAC season underway against the Morrisville State Mustangs in front of 1600 fans. The Cardinals would get the scoring going quickly, letting the fans launch the bears, as Aaron Catron scored at the 3:08 mark of the first period for the 1-0 lead. The game would stay there all the way to the third period when Tyler Zembryzycki would score for the Mustangs at the 7:18 mark to tie the game at one. Then the Mustangs would take the lead just 35 seconds later when Connor Santay would score to give the Mustangs the 2-1 lead. The Cardinals would keep fighting through the rest of the period, but they would not have an answer to give the Mustangs the 2-1 victory and their first conference win in their last 18 games.
