It would be the last weekend of the regular season in SUNYAC Women's Hockey and it would be a match up of the top two teams in the league as the #13 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Cortland State Red Dragons at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in front of 350 fans the dared the snowstrom outside. It would take until the 14:45 mark of the first period before Kate Conlon would get the opening goal giving the Cardinals a -0 lead, and that's how the first period would end. The Cardinals would waste little time when they returned for the second period, extending their lead to 2-0 just 2:03 in on Tessa Morris' goal. Then, at the 7:53 mark of the period, the Cardinals would get the 3-0 lead when Tessa Morrisstrucke for the second time. The Cardinals would take the 3-0 lead into the third when Emily Kasprzak would score on the power play at the 12:39 mark of the period for the 4-0 lead The Red Dragons would eventually get on the board with a goal from Drew Kopek to make it 4-1 in the game Although the Cardinals would add one more with 23 seconds left from Riley Keller to gice the Cardinals the 5-1 win. In the winning effort for the Cardinals Maddy Stetson would make 20 saves as they go to 17-6-1 on the season. For the Red Dragons, they combined for 26 saves as they fell to 14-6-4 on the season. SUNYAC Women's Hockey Semi-Finals: #3 Cortland State Red Dragons @ #2 Plattsburgh State Cardinals March 1st 2025

Plattsburgh State's Emily Kasprzak (22) muscles through the check as she came in on the attack. It would be playoff hockey time from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as it would be a rematch of last year's SUNYAC Women's Hockey finals as the #2 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #3 Cortland State Red Dragons in the SUNYAC Semi-finals this time around with 570 fans in attendance. The Cardinals would get the game's opening goal with 49 seconds left in the opening period when Ciara Wall would find the back of the net for the 1-0 lead as they ended the first period. There was no scoring in the second period, but that doesn't mean that neither team had chances throughout the period. However, the score would remain 1-0 after the second period. The game would stay 1-0 until 23 seconds left when the Cardinals would contact on the empty netter from Tessa Morris to secure the 2-0 victory. In the winning effort for the Cardinals, Chloe Lewis would make 20 saves in the shutout effort as they go to 19-6-4 on the season and will take on the Oswego State Lakers in the SUNYAC Finals next weekend. The game's lone goal would come from hometown native Mckenzie Brown at the 9:48 mark of the second period. In the win for the Cortland State Red Dragons, Molly Goergen would make 21 saves in the shut win, and the Red Dragons went to 15-2-2 in the season. As for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals, Chloe Lewis would make 24 saves in defeat as the Cardinals fell to 13-5-1 on the season. The Cortland Red Dragons are crowned the 2024 SUNYAC Women's Hockey Champions as they defeat the #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals. It would be conference championship Saturday afternoon once again for the #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals except this time they would be going after the first ever SUNYAC title as they would take on the #2 Cortland State Red Dragons in front of 1200 fans at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. It would be a very evenly contested game through the first period as both teams would have their chances but no one could get on the board. The game would finally get the first goal of the game at the 10:13 mark of the second period when the Cardinals would take the 1-0 lead on the Mae Olshansky powerplay goal. The lead would be short-lived as the Cortland State Red Dragons would answer back just over three minutes later on the Mia Hisanick powerplay goal to tie the game at two. The game would remain there through the rest of the second period and all of the third period sending the first-ever crowning for the SUNYAC title into the overtime period. In the overtime we would have to answer quickly as Cortland State's Elena Eichmann would light the lamp just 2:33 into the overtime and the party would be on for the Cortland State Red Dragons as they would get their first-ever women's conference tournament title and head to the NCAA Tournament. In the winning effort, Molly Goergen would make 26 saves on the day as they go to 19-5-2. The season is not over though for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals as they will get an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 21-4-2 mark on the season and both teams will find out their opponent when the bracket is announced Sunday evening. It would be the championship game of the Northeast Women's Hockey League and it would feature the #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals hosting the #2 Cortland State Red Dragons for the right to go to the NCAA Tournament in front of a crowd of over 600 fans. It would be a tight and physical game through the first period and neither team would be able to turn the red lamp on and they would end the opening 20 where they started tied at zero. The Cardinals would finally get the opening goal of the game 2:23 into the second period when Ciara Wall would score on the rebound and give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead and that is where the game would remain for the rest of the period. Then on the powerplay, just 4:02 into the third Sara Krauseneck would score as she rushed the net to give the Cardinals the 2-0 lead. From there the Cardinal's defense would stand tall and hold on for the victory as they would only give up 16 shots in the game. In the winning effort, Ashley Davis would stand tall for another shutout as the Cardinals would capture their fifth straight NEWHL title and will wait and see if they get the overall number one seed in the tournament when the brackets are relieved Sunday evening.
