It would be the top three of the Leon Gonyo Memorial 40 with Tim Fuller (middle) the winner, Mario Clair (left) second and Felix Roy (right) third as they pose for their podium picture. It would be the start of the 2024 racing season from the Airborne Park Speedway and it would start with a whole new management crew as Mike Bruno and crew from Devils Bowl Speedway would now be running the track. They would start the 70th year of racing from the Airborne Park Speedway with the Leon Gonyo Memorial 40 lap 358 Modified race with $4,444 going to the winner and the Sportsman Modified would have 30 laps and $1,200 to win. Also in action would be the Renegades, Limited Sportsman Modified, and the Mini Stocks as there would be around 110 cars in the pits to get the season going. After the dust had settled from the heat races it would be off to the features on the night and it would start with the big one the Leon Gonyo Memorial 40 for the 358 Modified and would see Adam Pierson and Tim Fuller starting on the front and after a few early counts in the first 5 laps of the race it would be smooth sailing the rest of the way but that doesn't mean there wasn't battles all over the track for position. We would see Tim Fuller making a rare start at Airborne Park Speedway getting the win over a hard-charging Mario Clair that would see him come from ninth to second and rounding out the top three would be Felix Roy. Then we would have the Sportsman Modified going for $1,200 over thirty laps it would start with a battle upfront between Donovan Lussier and Gabriel Cyr but it would slowly see Lussier pull away for the win and Fire Swamp would round out the top three as he was trying to go back to back after winning at Devils Bowl last weekend in there season opener. Then we would have the Renegades for 20 laps and Travis Stokes and Levi Bombard would start on the front row but after an early race incident that would see them both restarting in the back after a spin. We would have a hard-charging Tylor Terry get the win as he came from tenth to win but it would not be without a battle between second-place finisher Nathaniel Guay as they would go side by side for many laps at the front and it would see Tylor's brother Josh Terry come from the 11th starting position to get the third place finish on the night. Then we would have the Limited Sportsman Modified for 20 and it would see Keith Pelkey go wire to wire for the win in his first-ever start in the division. The night would finish with a pair of features for the mini stocks as it would start with Nick Harden getting the win over Rick Doner in a tight battle along with Speedy Bressette in third. Then in the second feature, it would be Josh Blake who would get the win over JP Corrow and Kyle Hart to finish off the night of racing. The Thursday night Thunder show will return next week as the Renegades will be the main attraction with an extra distance race and $500 to win also in action will be the 358 Modifieds, Sportsman Modified, and the Mini Stocks on May 16th.
