NYSPHSAA Northern Regional Class D Girl's Basketball Championship: #6 Chateaugay Bulldogs Vs #9 Schroon Lake Wildcats March 1st 2025

Chateaugay's Irelynn Laplante (12) takes flight on the breakaway score for two of her 16 points on the afternoon. It would be regional finals day from the Clinton Community College with a ticket to the final four on the line, starting with the Class D Girls. It would see the #6 Chateaugay Bulldogs from Section X taking on the # 9 Schroon Lake Wildcats from Section VII. The game would start quickly, but it would be good for the visiting Bulldogs as they would jump out to an 11-lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Bulldogs would use their quick shooting to jump on, take control of the game with a 16-5 quarter, and take the 33-16 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Bulldogs would keep up their tight defense, have another good quarter at 10-5, and take the 43-21 lead into the final quarter. With the outcome of the game well out of doubt, the coaches would put the benches in for the fourth quarter, and the Bulldogs would win the low-scoring quarter at 6-3 as they would secure the 49-24 victory. In the winning effort for the Chateaugay Bulldogs, they will punch their ticket to the final four and get the winner of LaFragville and South Knighton at Hudson Valley Community College. In the win for the Bulldogs, Madison McComb and Irelynn Laplante each had 16 points as they went to 24-1 in the season. NCAA Division III Women's Hockey First Round: Elmira Soaring Eagles @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals March 15th 2025

Elmira's Sara Sevcikova (33) with the pad save on Plattsburgh State's Claria Wall (34) shot in close as part of a 40 save shutout afternoon. It would be the opening round of the NCAA Division III Women's Hockey Tournament, and it would see an old rivalry renewed at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Elmira Soaring Eagles with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line. The Soaring Eagles would get the game's opening goal at the 13:57 mark of the first period when Erika Goleniak would light the lamp, and that's where the lead would stand at the end of first period. When the teams returned for the second period both teams would have there chances to get a goal as the Cardinals would lead the period 14-6 shots on goal but would not be able to get one in the net so the Soaring Eagles would hold onto the 1-0 lead as they went to the third period. Once again, in that period, the Cardinals would lead the way with 11 shots to 5, but they couldn't score, and the Eagles would get a 1-0 win. In the winning effort for the Soaring Eagles, Sara Sevcikova would make 40 saves in the shutout victory as they go to 21-7-1 on the season and advance to the quarterfinals against Wisconsin River Falls. The Elmira Soaring Eagles celebrate their 1-0 victory over the Plattsburgh State Cardinals as they advance to the NCAA Division III Women's Hockey Quarterfinals. #1 Berne Knox Westerlo Bulldogs Vs #13 Moriah Vikings March 15th 2025
The Berne Knox Westerlo Bulldogs would be crowned the 2025 Northern Regional Class C Champions with a 79-58 victory over the Moriah Vikings. It would be the second game of championship day from the Clinton Community College and this time it would be the boy's this time as the #1 Berne Knox Westerlo Bulldogs and the #13 Moriah Vikings as they battle for the Northern Region title and a spot in the final four as the Vikings look to make the return trip. Getting started would be a fast-paced game, but the Buldogs would have a 16-10 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, though, the Bulldogs would start to take control of the game as they would have a great quarter at 21-10 and take the 37-20 lead into the locker room. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Vikings would do their best to get back in the game, but it would be a fairly even quarter with the Vikings getting the 17-16 quarter as the Bulldogs would take the 53-37 lead into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter would be another high-scoring quarter, with most of the points coming from the foul line as the Bulldogs would have the 26-21 quarter to secure the 79-58 win. In the winning effort for the Bulldogs, they would stay undefeated in the season as Shake Kirker would lead the way with 36 points as they go to NYS Final Four next weekend. It would be the second game of championship day from the Clinton Community College and this time it would be the boy's this time as the #1 Berne Knox Westerlo Bulldogs and the #13 Moriah Vikings as they battle for the Northern Region title and a spot in the final four as the Vikings look to make the return trip. It would be regional finals day from the Clinton Community College with a ticket to the final four on the line, starting with the Class D Girls. It would see the #6 Chateaugay Bulldogs from Section X taking on the # 9 Schroon Lake Wildcats from Section VII. SUNYAC Women's Hockey Semi-Finals: #3 Cortland State Red Dragons @ #2 Plattsburgh State Cardinals March 1st 2025

Plattsburgh State's Emily Kasprzak (22) muscles through the check as she came in on the attack. It would be playoff hockey time from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as it would be a rematch of last year's SUNYAC Women's Hockey finals as the #2 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #3 Cortland State Red Dragons in the SUNYAC Semi-finals this time around with 570 fans in attendance. The Cardinals would get the game's opening goal with 49 seconds left in the opening period when Ciara Wall would find the back of the net for the 1-0 lead as they ended the first period. There was no scoring in the second period, but that doesn't mean that neither team had chances throughout the period. However, the score would remain 1-0 after the second period. The game would stay 1-0 until 23 seconds left when the Cardinals would contact on the empty netter from Tessa Morris to secure the 2-0 victory. In the winning effort for the Cardinals, Chloe Lewis would make 20 saves in the shutout effort as they go to 19-6-4 on the season and will take on the Oswego State Lakers in the SUNYAC Finals next weekend. As for the Cortland State Red Dragons, Molly Goergen would have ten saves as they fall to 17-5-4 on the season and will wait to see if they get an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Gallery

Queenbury's Egan Breault (31) with the diving stop on Saranac's Landon Giroux (17) as he looked to break up the shutout. It would be the quarterfinals of the New York State Boys' Hockey Division II Tournament, and it would see #6 Queensbury Spartans and #10 Saranac Spartans from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena, with the winner going to the Final Four in Buffalo, NY, next weekend. The Queensbury Spartans would get the game's opening goal in the eighth minute of the first period when Oliver Coughlin would score, which would be the only scoring of the period. When we returned for the second period, Queensbury came out on fire as they scored three goals in the first five minutes from Cameron Porter (twice) and Ethan Kelsey to give the 4-0 lead after the second period. Queensbury would keep it going and make it 5-0 at the 8:32 mark of the third period when Ethan Kelsey would complete his hat trick. Queenbury would keep it coming and extend their lead to 6-0 at 11:11, when Cameron Porter would also score to complete a hat trick on the night. Then, in the game's closing minutes, Queensbury would get one more from Ollie Coughlan, and they secured the 7-0 victory. In the winning effort, the Queensbury Spartans will advance to the final four of the New York State Tournament, where they will get the winner of Rye and Ogdensburg. Section VII Champion Challenge Boy's Basketball: Beekmantown Eagles Vs Saranac Lake Red Storm March 6th 2025

Saranac Lake's Mik Denkenberger (5) swoops around the defender with the score as part of a team high 15 points. It would be the second evening game from the Clinton Community College gym, featuring the Beekmantown Eagles and the Saranac Lake Red Storm in the champions challenge. The Red Storm would jump out to the lead after the first quarter as they would double up the Eagles at 16-8 lead. In the second quarter, the Eagles would start to chip away at the deficit as they would win the quarter at 12-9, but the Red Storm would keep their lead at 25-20. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Red Storm would start to take control of the game as they would have a 15-6 quarter and take the 40-26 lead as they enter the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Eagles would do their best to get back in the game, but the deficit would be too much as they won the quarter 18-11, but the Red Storm would hold on for the win at 51-44. The winning effort for the Saranac Lake Red Storm would go to 16-7 on the season as Mik Denkenberger would lead the way with 15 points as they head into the New York State Tournament next week.
