Saranac's Layla Pellerin (1) with the snag on the line drive to keep the Hornets off the board. It would be the Saranac Spartans and the Plattsburgh Hornets doing battle in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Softball action from Plattsburgh High. The Sprtans would take the early lead in the game on a pair of runs on base hits in the first inning to take the 2-0 lead after the first inning. In the second inning, the Spartans would expand their lead to a single run for the 3-0 lead. The game would stay there til the fourth when the Hornets would get on the board with a run and make it a 3-1 lead. The fifth offense would explode on both sides as they would combine for seven runs as the Spartans would take the big 8-3 lead. In the sixth inning, the Hornets would stay hot and do what they could to make ot a game with a 3-1 inning to make it a 9-6 game, and that's where it would stay to give the Spartans the 9-6 victory. In the winning effort for the Spartans, Elizabeth Recore would lead the way with a hit and a pair of RBIs as they go to 3-3 on the season. Felix Roy (91) and Jackson Gill (60) battle for the early race lead during the 2nd annual Leon Gonyo Memorial 358 Modified 40 lapper from the Airborne Park Speedway as they go after the 4 thousand dollar payday. It would be the 2025 season opener from the Airborne Park Speedway, and it would be the earliest in the 71-year history of the track, as we took the green on April 13th, and it would mark the return of the Airborne Park Speedway under the Dirtcar banner after a year away. The season would start with the 2nd annual Leon Gonyo Memorial, 4 thousand to win for the 358 Modifieds and two thousand to win for Sportsman Modified, along with the Renegades, Crown Vics, Limited Sportsman Modifieds, and Mini Stocks, as there would be over 130 cars in the pits. After all the time trials, heats, and last chance qualifiers were done, it would be onto the mains, and the first one up would be the Crown Vics. It would be a six-car field and see Richie Turner get the lead-off start, but Eric Friend would come up challenging from his last row start, take the lead, and cruise to the win, as we would get our second straight Crown Vic win at the Airborne Speedway. After the intermission, it would be onto the Sportsman Modified 2 thousand to win 30 lap main event. It would see Fire Swamp get the early lead from the early start of the race. Still, there would be a challenge up front from an old rival as the six-time track champion would come up and battle for the lead with Nick Heywood, and just over halfway through the race, he would take the lead. Still, it would not be without challenge as Swamp and Donovan Lussier would stay in sight and challenge for the lead, but Heywood would win today. Then it would be onto the main event of the evening, the Leon Gonyo Memorial, a 4 to win 358 Modified 40 lapper. It would see Felix Roy go wire to wire for the win, and it would be a Roy 1-2 finish. Jeremy would finish second, and then Jackson Gill would get third to round out the top three. Then we would be onto the Renegades for their 20-lap feature and see last year's champion, Shawn Duquette, get the lead off the start of the race. Still, there would be a challenge from last year's 2nd place man, Tyor Terry, and they would duke it out for the win, and on this day, it would be Tyor Terry getting the win and the early edge on the season. Then it would be onto the Limited Sportsman Modified and their 15-lap event, and see Gary English go wire to wire for the win. Then the final race of the evening would be the Mini Stocks, a 15-lap event, and 25 cars would take the green. It would see Jake Fountain get the lead at the start of the race and would be sailing around in the lead, but there would be a late race surge from Glen Engstrom, but it would come up about a car length short at the checkered flag, and Jake Fountain would get the opening win of the season. The racetrack will return to life next weekend, April 19th, as the Sprint Cars of New England invade the track with their 360s. Gallery

Jake Fountain (22) and Glen Engstrom (17) battle for the win down the stretch as they go after the win in the 15-lap main for the Mini Stocks. Section X Boys' Lacrosse: Ogdensburg Blue Devils @ Plattsburgh Hornets April 11th 2025

Plattsburgh's Declan Baker (13) scored the goal as he fell down in front of the net for his second goal of the afternoon. It would be the 2025 home opener for the Plattsburgh Hornets as they would take on the Ogdensburg Blue Devils to start their 2025 Section X season. The Blue Devils would jump out to a big lead after the first quarter at 8-1, and scoring for the Blue Devils would be Ty Jacobs (twice), Aiden O'Neil (fourth), Brody Barrett, Tegan Frederick, and scoring for the Honets would be Alek Duprey. In the second quarter the defense would be the name of the game all around as the Hornets would win the lower scoring quarter at 3-1 as Declan and Killan Baker along with Alek Duprey second of the game and getting the one goal for the Blue Devils would be Tegan Frederick second of the game to make it a 9-4 Blue Devils lead at the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Blue Devils would take control of the game with a 3-0 quarter as Nathan Irvine, Ty Jacobs (third of the game), and Aiden O'Neil (fifth of the game) made it a 12-4 game after the third quarter. In the fourth quarter with the outcome no longer in doubt the teams would empty the benches and the Blue Devils would win the quarter 2-1 on Tanner Fonda and Kaden Bogart goal for the Blue Devils and getting the lone goal for the Hornets would be Declan Baker as the Blue Devils secuer the 14-5 victory. In the winning effort, the Blue Devils Jackson Thronhill would make eight saves as they go to 4-0 on the season as they head into their next gam against the Salmon River Shamrocks. The Cornell Big Red would be crowned the 2025 ECAC Hockey Men's Hockey champions for the second straight season with their 3-1 win over the Clarkson Golden Knights. It would be the 2025 ECAC Hockey Men's Hockey Championship from the famed Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, NY, and it would feature the #2 Clarkson Golden Knights going against the #6 Cornell Big Red, who are looking for back-to-back Whitelaw Cups in front of 6000 fans. The Big Red would get the game's first goal at just 5:11 when Ondrej Psenicka beat the netminder for the 1-0 lead as the Big Red looked to respond. Then it would be just 1:52 later when the Big Red would extend their lead to 2-0 when Nick Desantis would score his eighth of the season, and that's where the first period would end. The game would stay there till the 13:23 mark of the second period when the Golden Knights would make it a one-goal game at 2-1 on Erik Bargholtz's sixth goal of the season, and that's where the period would end. In the third period, the game would go back and forth with both teams having their chances to get one, including the tying goal by the Knights. Although the only goal of the period would be the empty netter by Ryan Walsh to seal the deal with 1:49 left in the game to give the Cornell Big Red their second straight title at 3-1 and punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. Clarkson's Ty Brassington (44) and Dartmouth's Cam Macdonald (15) have a meeting of the minds as they go after the loose puck at the blueline by the benches. It would be the second semi-final game of the day from the Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, NY, as it would be a part of the championship weekend in front of 5300 fans. It would be tight through the first period as both teams would have chances, but no one could light the lamp, and there would be no score after the first period. The Golden Knights would get the game's opening goal at the 1:04 mark of the second period when Ryan Bottrill would score for his eighth goal of the season for the 1-0 lead. The Golden Knights would be able to double up their lead at 2-0 when Tristan Sarsland would score just over 4 minutes later for his eighth of the season, and that's where the second period would end at 2-0, Clarkson. When the teams returned for the third period, the Golden Knights would extend their lead to 3-0 just 4:54 into the period when Trey Taylor would score his 9th of the season. The Big Green would keep coming and get on the board with 4:28 left in the game when John Fusco scored his 11th of the season to make it interesting down the stretch. However, the Golden Knights would put the icing on the cake with 1:50 left in the game when Ayrton Martino would get his 25th of the season to secure the 4-1 win for the Golden Knights. In the winning effort for the Golden Knights, Ethan Langenegger would make 25 saves as they go to 24-11-3 on the season and advance to the ECAC Hockey Championship against the Cornell Big Red tomorrow. The Cornell Big Red celebrate their overtime winner to advance to the ECAC Hockey Finals Saturday night with their 3-2 win over the Quinnipac Bobcats. The ECAC Hockey would make there annual return to Lake Placid and the home of Miracles for there final four and there first game would see the #1 Quinnipac Bobcats and the #6 Cornell Big Red battle for a spot in the championship game Saturday evening in front of 5300 fans. The Big Red would start the scoring in the first period when Jonathan Castagna would strike on the powerplay for his fifth goal of the season to give them the 1-0 lead with just 4 seconds left in the first period. In the second period, the Bobcats would answer back at the 14:09 mark when Andon Cerbone would score his 15th of the season and tie the game at one, and that's how the game would go to the third period. In the third period, the Bobcats would get their first lead at 14:42 when Chris Pelosi scored. Then with the Big Red down a man and pulling the goalie to even it back up, Kyler Kovich would score for his fifth goal of the season to send the game to overtime. In overtime, the Bobcats would take a slashing penalty, and Tim Reggo would rifle it past the goaltender for the game winner at the 14:39 mark of the overtime and advance to the finals with a 3-2 victory to take on the winner of Clarkson and Dartmouth in the other semi-finals. In the winning effort for the Big Red, Ian Shane would make 22 saves in the afternoon as they go to 17-10-6 in the season.
