Northeastern Clinton Cougars @ Plattsburgh Hornets February 20th 2024

Plattsburgh's Liam Perkins (34) with the baby jump shot in front of the net as the Hornets would get the 56-32 win on the night. It would be the home opener for the Plattsburgh Hornets as they would host the Northeastern Clinton Cougars in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Basketball action. I would start slow, with both teams missing their shots early in the game as they were getting a feel for the night, but in the second half of the quarter, the teams would feel better, and the Cougars would have the 5-point lead at 15-10 at the end of the first. In the second quarter, the Hornets would come alive on offense, and their defense would be shut down as they would explode for a 15-2 quarter and take a 25-17 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half, the Hornets would stay hot out there as they would have a 17-4 quarter, expand on their run at 32-6, and take the 42-21 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the teams would play a little more equal as the Hornets would call all of the dogs and have a 14-11 quarter as they would get the 56-32 victory. In the winning effort, the Hornets would go to 4-1 on the season as they head into their game next week against Hudson Falls. Keene Beavers @ Seton Catholic Knights December 16th 2024

Keene's Vann Morrelli (0) comes flying in from behind the play to get the block on Seton Catholic's Michael Mannix (11) as they would get the 60-56 victory. We would have Mountain Valley Athletic Conference action inside Section VII as the Seton Catholic Knights would host the Keene Beavers in an early season tilt. The game would start quickly, with both teams going up and down the court, and the Knights would have a slight 15-12 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the high pace of both teams would continue as the Beavers would win the quarter 19-15 and take the slim 31-30 lead into the intermission. When the teams return for the second half, they will still have the high pass up and down the court, as the Beavers will have the 14-11 and get a slightly bigger lead at 45-41 after three quarters. In the quarter, the Knights would give everything they have to get back in the game and, a couple of times in the quarter, have the deficit within one; still, they would be unable to get over that hump in the quarter, and the teams would tie for the quarter at 15, but the Bevers would hold onto get the 60-56 victory. With the Keene Beavers going to 2-1 on the season as the Knights fall to 0-2, both teams will be back in action later in the week before the holiday break. Gallery

Kenmore East Bulldogs @ Saranac Spartans December 15th 2024

The celebration is on for the Saranac Spartans as Gabe Moore gets the game-winner with just under 4 minutes left in the game, and they get the 6-4 win. It would be the second game of the weekend for the Saranac Spartans as they would host another Section VI team at the Ameri-can North Arena as they continue the season's early start. The visiting Bulldogs would get the game's opening goal in the first couple of minutes for the 1-0 lead. Then, about the 4:30 mark of the game's opening period, the Spartans would tie the game up at one on the Ashtyn Catlin goal. Then, at the 6:17 mark of the period, Ashtyn Catlin would strike again for the Spartans to give them the 2-1 lead. Ten seconds later, the Bulldogs would tie the game up at two on the Evan Adair goal. The Spartan's offense would not go quietly, though, as they would retake the lead with 6 minutes left in the period on the Brody Macomber goal to make it a 3-2 Spartans lead, and that's where the first period would end. When the teams return for the second period, the defense would be the game's name as both teams would have their chances to score, but the Bulldogs would have the lone goal of the period just three minutes in to tie the game up at three. The Bulldogs would come up for the third period looking for the go-ahead goal and get it at the 5:25 mark from Ben Martin for the 4-3 lead. The game would stay there till the 10:06 mark of the period when the Spartans would tie the game up at four on the Nolan Miner. The Spartans would keep coming, and they would get their lead back at the 13:15 mark of the Gabe Moore goal and make it 5-4. Then, with just over a minute left in the game, Ashtyn Catlin would come down on the breakaway and beat the Bulldogs netminder to complete the hat trick and give the Spartans the 6-4 win. In the winning effort, Ashtyn Catlin would have three goals, and Brody Macomber would have three-point nights with a goal and two assists as they go 3-1 on the season as they head into the St. Albans tournament next weekend. As for the Kenmore East Bulldogs, they suffer their first loss of the season and go 2-1 as they head back into sectional play next week. Gallery

Grand Island Vikings @ Saranac Spartans December 14th 2024

Grand Island's Trent Yoder (2) with the hard hit on Saranac's Brady Macomber (4) that takes him off his feet and sends him to the ice. The Saranac Spartans would start the home portion of their 2024-2025 campaign after a perfect 2-0 weekend in Syracuse as they would welcome in Section VI foe and Division 1 team, the Grand Island Vikings. The game would start well for the visiting Vikings as they would get the opening goal in the first 90 seconds from Kyle Kowalczewski for the 1-0 lead. The game would stay there til midway through the period when the Vikings would extend their lead to 2-0 on the Ricky Kwarciak goal, and that's where the first period would end. The Spartans would get on the board at the 5:46 mark of the second period when Evan Patrie would find the net on the wrister and make it a 2-1 game. Then, about 30 seconds later, the Spartans would tie the game at two on the Ryan Campbell goal. The Vikings would return and retake the lead at 3-2 on the powerplay goal from Jaxon Montana. Then, after a miscue in the Spartan's end, the Vikings would break out on the breakaway, and Donovan Heacock would score to make it a 4-2 Vikings game with about 2:30 left in the second period, and that's where the period would end. The Spartans would make it a 4-3 one-goal game just 2:31 into the third period on the Ashtyn Catlin goal. The Spartans would have their chances through the rest of the period, including a couple of powerplays and even five-on-three powerplays, but they could not get the equalizer on the night, and the Vikings would get the 4-3 win. In the winning effort, the Grand Island Vikings go to 2-0-1 on the season as they head into their game against Germantown. As for the Saranac Spartans, they fall to 2-1 on the season as they will take on another section 6 team, the Kenmore East Bulldogs, tomorrow back at AC North Arena. Gallery

Ausable Valley Patriots @ Plattsburgh Hornets December 13th 2024

Ausable Valley's (12) goes up on the rebound chance with three defenders on her for the score. It would be another night of Champlain Valley Athletic Conference girls's Basketball action, this time from the Plattsburgh High School, and it would see the Hornets tipping off against the Ausable Valley Patriots. The game would straight off tight as both teams found the basket at a good clip and tied at 12 after the first quarter. Both teams would keep up their good scoring in the second quarter, but the Hornets would be a little better in the quarter at 13-11 and take the 25-23 lead into the break. When the teams would return for the third quarter, the defense would step up for the Patriots, and they would have a 10-6 quarter and take the 33-31 lead into the final quarter. In that final quarter, the offenses on both sides would return, but the Patriots would be better on this day with a 14-11 quarter to seal the 47-42 victory. Gallery

Peru Nighthawks @ Plattsburgh Hornets December 11th 2024

Peru's Reese Duprey (5) with the block on Plattsburgh's Izzy Detulleo (33) as she took the chips on the baseline. It would be the opening night of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference season for the Plattsburgh Hornets, and the Peru Nighthawks would renew their rivalry again on the hardwood. The game would start well for the Nighthawks as they would jump to a 19-12 lead after the first eight minutes. In the second quarter, the Nighthawks would stay hot as they would have a 19-14 quarter and take the 38-26 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, they played an even third quarter, with the Nighthawks winning the quarter 11-10 and taking the 49-36. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets would do their best to get back in the game with a shutdown defense, and they would win the quarter 10-2, but it would not be enough on this night as the Nighthawks would get the 51-46 win and the Nighthawks would go to 3-0 on the season while the Hornets fall to 0-1 on the season. Lasalle Cadets @ Plattsburgh Hornets December 6th 2024

Plattsburgh's Lucas Dashnaw (27) stuffs the rebound between the legs of La Salle's Carter Irving (31) for the go-ahead goal. It would be the opening night of the High School Hockey season and it would see the Plattsburgh Hornets host the Lasalle Cadets from Section 2 from the Ameri-can North Arena. The game would start well for the road Cadets as they would get the opening goal of the game in the first five minutes of the contest. The Hornets would keep coming and they would tie the game up at one at the 8:19 mark of the first period when Colby Chase would get his first goal of the season. The game would not stay tied very long cause at the 10:46 mark of the period just two minutes later the Hornets would take the 2-1 lead on the Lucas Dashnaw power-play goal to give the Hornets the 2-1 lead and that's where firs first-period end. There would be no scoring in the second period of the game but both teams would have their chances to make to take the lead just couldn't put it away. When the teams would head to the third period the Cadets would not waste time in tying the game up as they would get the equalizer from Michael Nocera at 4:53 mark. The rest of the period and overtime would go by without the teams finding the net again and the game would end in the 2-2 tie. Both goalies would be on point for the opener as Carter Irving for the Cadets and Owen Chapple for the Hornets would both have over 30 saves on the net as both teams start the season 0-0-1. The Cadets are back in action on Saturday as they will take on the Beekmantown Eagles. As for the Hornets, they will be back in action Saturday against Niskayuna Hawks. Gallery

#10 Providence Friars Vs #20 Clarkson Golden Knights November 29th 2024

Providence's Nick Poisson (12) puts it over Clarkson's Ethan Langenegger (1) for the shorthanded goal to make it a 2-0 game. It would be the second game of the day from the famed Herb Brooks Arena as part of the 2nd annual Adirondack Winter Invitational, and it would feature a matchup inside the top the 20 as the #10 Providence Friars would square off with the #20 Clarkson Golden Knights. The game would start for the Friars as they would waste little time getting the contest's opening goal at the 4:15 mark of the first period on Tanner Adams's seventh goal of the season and take the early 1-0 lead. The game would stay there till the 13:34 mark of the period when the Friars would score this time on the shorthand from Nick Poisson for his 4th of the season. The Golden Knights would finally get into the scoring act two minutes later when Jared Mangan scored the powerplay for his fourth season, and that's where the first period would end. The game would stay there till the 8:57 mark of the second period when the Golden Knights found the equalizer from Ryan Richardson for his fourth of the season and tied the game. That would be the last of the scoring for regulation, and the next 32 minutes would go without a goal. So the teams would head to the overtime, and for some three-on-three hockey, at the 1:57 mark of the period, Graham Gamache would get the game-winner and his third goal of the season. In the winning effort for the Friar, Phillipp Svedeback made 23 saves as they went to 9-3-2 in the season and played for the St. Lawrence Saints tomorrow to finish the tournament. As for the Golden Knights, Ethan Langenegger would make 28 saves as they fall to 9-5-1 and will have another top-20 opponent tomorrow as they will take on the Massachusetts Lowell Riverhawks. Gallery

Morrisville State Mustangs @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals November 23rd 2024

Plattsburgh State's Jake Lanyi (37) with the backhanded wrister shot on net as the Cardinals would get the 4-1 win over the Mustangs. The Cardinals would return home for the second straight night as this time they would take on SUNYAC contender the Morrisville State Mustangs from the Ronnie B in front of 1600 fans on Casella Teddy Bear toss night. The game would start well for the Cardinals as they would get the game's opening goal from Tio D'Addario at the 6:09 mark of the first period. The lead would only stay at one for a short time as the Cardinals would extend their lead to 2-0 just over a minute later on the Colin Callanan goal. The game would remain there till the 3:44 mark of the third period when Jake Sacratini power-play goal to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead. The Mustangs would finally be able to get on the board at the 9:03 mark of the third period when they would light the lamp on the Evan Fraccaro power play goal. The Cardinals would waste little time regaining their three-goal lead when Ryan Poorman scored a shorthanded goal 40 seconds later, making it a 4-1 game. The Cardinals would control the game from there for the win as they go to 3-3 on the season. Jacon Hearne would make 11 saves on the night, and they go to 3-3 season. The Cardinals will return to action next weekend in Middlebury for the annual Layer 8 shootout. Gallery

Buffalo State Bengals @ #7 Plattsburgh State Cardinals November 23rd 2024

Plattsburgh State's Mae Olshansky (18) comes in on the breakaway and puts it over the shoulder for the score as the Cardinals get the 4-0 victory. The #7 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would return home for the first time since November 2nd, and this time, they would take on SUNYAc for the Buffalo State Bengals in front of 360 fans at the Ronnie B Stafford Ice Arena. The Cardinals would open the scoring on the power play with Kayson Ruegge's goal at the 13:37 mark of the first period. The Cardinals would waste little time extending their lead to 2-0 on Tessa Morris's goal 2 minutes later. The game would remain there till the 11:05 mark of the third period when Mae Olshansky would score for the Cardinals and make it a 3-0 game. Then, to finish off the scoring for the Cardinals, a minute later, Kate Conlon lights the lamp and makes it a 4-0, and that's where the game would finish. In the winning effort for the Cardinals, Chloe Lewis would make nine saves on the day for the shutout, and the Cardinals would go to 4-1. The Cardinals will return to action next weekend at home as they will host the Cardinal Panther Classic and will take on St. Norbert. Gallery
