Plattsburgh State's Lilla Nease (31) with the glove save in traffic for one of her 20 saves on the day on her way to her first career shutout. It would be the second game of a weekend doubleheader for the #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals as they were hosting the Morrisville State Mustangs in NEWHL action. The Cardinals would waste little time getting on the board 49 seconds into the game on a backhander from Annie Katonka for the 1-0 lead. The Cardinals would expand their lead to 2-0 on a powerplay goal by Kaitlin Drew-Mead at the 7:58 mark of the period. That might be where the scoring stopped in the first period but the Cardinals would explode for four goals in the second period from Mattie Norton, Tatem Cheney, Nicole Unsworth, and Mae Olshansky and take a huge 6-0 lead into the third period. In the third period the Cardinals would not let off the gas as they would score three more times this time from Sara Krausneck, Annie Katonka (2nd of the night), and Mae Olshansky (second of the night) and they would secure the 9-0 win. In the winning effort, Lilla Nease would make 20 saves for their first career shutout as the Cardinals would go to 5-0 on the season. Next, up for the Cardinals, they will be hosting the Cardinal/Panther Classic over the Thanksgiving weekend along with Middlebury, Endicott, and Elmira. Gallery.

#9 Moriah Vikings Vs Haldane Blue Devils NYSPHSAA Football Class D Quarterfinals November 19th 2021

Haldane's Soren Holmbo (4) steps in front of Moriah's Bryce Sprague (7) for the interception in the middle of the field to keep there team in the game. It would be the Quarterfinals of the NYSPHSAA Class D Football Championships and the #9 Moriah Vikings would take on the Haldane Blue Devils with a trip to the final four on the line from the Ausable Valley High School in Clintonville, NY. The first quarter would be a defensive battle as both teams would be held off the scoreboard. On this cold night, the Vikings would finally break through the ice with a score at the 4:19 mark of the second quarter on a 2 yard run from Caleb Harris for the 8-0 lead after they went for two. Then with 32 seconds left in the half, the Vikings would strike again this time on a 50 yard run from Rowan Swan and they would double their advantage at 16-0 as they would head into the locker rooms. When the teams came back for the third quarter the Vikings would keep their foot down and add another score with 3:30 left in the quarter on the quarterback keeper from the 1-yard line and take the 22-0 lead. From there defense would keep Haldane off the board and secure the 22-0. In the winning effort, the Vikings stay undefeated on the season at 9-0 and will head to Middletown, NY next weekend and take on #4 Greenwich in the final four with a chance to head back to the dome for a state title the first week in December. Saranac Lake Red Storm Vs #10 Ogdensburg Blue Devils NYSPHSAA Football Class C First Round November 13th 2021

Saranac Lake's Connor Hewitt (23) backs his way into the endzone as he is being tackled by the Ogdensburg defender. It would be the opening round of the NYSPHSAA Class C Tournament between the Saranac Lake Red Storm and the Ogdensburg Blue Devils at Plattsburgh High School. The Red Storm would come out and get the opening score of the game at the 4:01 mark of the first quarter on a 2 yard run from Conor Hewitt. Although the Blue Devils would have answered at the 7:01 mark on a one-yard run by Tristan Lovely to tie the game at seven. Saranac Lake would fight back and take the lead back on a second Conor Hewitt touchdown from 19 yards to make it 14-8 at the 3:33 mark of the second quarter. Then at the midway mark of the second quarter, the Blue Devils would strike back on a ten-yard pass to Justice McIntrye to tie the game at 14 as they would head into the half. The game would stay there till the last minute of the third quarter when the Blue Devils would score on a 16 yard run by Andrew Loffler and the two-point conversion to make it 22-14 Blue Devils. Then in the final two minutes of the game, the Blue Devils would put the game out of reach on a 61 yard run by Drew Costello and secure the 28-14 win, and advance to the quarterfinals weekend. Norwich Cadets @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals November 13th 2021 Women's NCAA Women's Basketball Cardinal Classic Day #2

Plattsburgh State's Kara Oatman with three attempts from the corner. It would be day 2 of the Cardinal Classic as the host Plattsburgh State Cardinals would take on the Norwich Cadets. The game would start off slow as the defenses would be on their game as the Cadets would have the low 14-10 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the defenses would stay up as the Cardinals would win it 10-5 and have the 20-19 lead at the half. When the teams came back for the third quarter so did the Cardinals offense as they would explode for a 29-6 quarter and take a 49-25 lead. In the fourth quarter, they would just let it ride and win the quarter 20-19 and secure the 69-44 win. In the winning effort, Mya Smith would lead the way with 16 points as they go to 3-1 on the season and Norwich remains winless in the early season. Gallery

Cobleskill Tigers @ Potsdam State Bears November 13th 2021 Women's NCAA Women's Basketball Cardinal Classic Day #2

Potsdam State's Mandy Barnell (25) with the offensive rebound under the basket. It would be the first game of the second day of the Cardinal Classic and would feature the Potsdam State Bears and the Cobleskill Tigers. The game would start well for the Bears as they jump out to the 15-10 lead. In the second quarter, the Tigers would fight back and take the slim 24-23 lead at the half with a 14-8 quarter. When the teams came back for the second half the Tigers would stay hot as they would extend their lead to 44-38 with a 20-15 quarter. Although in the fourth quarter the Bears would catch fire with a 23-11 quarter and pull out the win at the end with a 61-55 win. In the winning effort, Xyel Bradford would lead the way with 11 points as the Bears go to 2-1 on the season. Gallery

Plattsburgh State's Payton Couture (33) takes it and lays it in as part of a game-high 16 point effort. It would be the opening game of the Cardinal Classic as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Cobleskill Tigers. The game would not start off good for the home Cardinals as they would trail 21-15 after the opening stanza. In the second quarter, the Cardinals would keep it closer but still wouldn't have an answer as the Tigers win the quarter 15-14 giving the Tigers the 36-29 lead at the intermission. When the teams came back for the third quarter the Cardinals found a way to break the Tigers defense as they win the quarter 21-9 to take a 50-45 lead into the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter, the Cardinals offense would stay in fire winning the quarter 21-15 and securing the 71-60 victory. In the winning effort, the Cardinals would play the Norwich Cadets the second day for a chance to win the Cardinal Classic. Leading the way for the Cardinals would be Payton Couture with 16 points as they go to 2-1 on the season. Gallery

In the second game of the night from the Cardinal Classic, the Potsdam State Bears would take on the Norwich Cadets. The games would start out with the defenses being top-notch as the Bears would have a slim 10-6 lead. In the second quarter, the Bears would start to pull away with a 15-8 quarter and take a 25-14 lead into the half. When the teams came back for the second quarter the Bears came back with their offense as they would be on fire with a 25-7 quarter and pull away with a 50-21 lead. In the fourth quarter, the Bears would stay on the gas with a 22-10 quarter and secure the 72-31 victory. In the winning effort, Madison McCormick would lead the way with 16 points as they even the record at 1-1 on the season while the Cadets are now 0-2 on the season. Gallery

#7 Norwich Cadets @ #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals NCAA Women's Hockey November 10th 2021

Plattsburgh State's Kaitlin Drew-Mead (27) slides the puck between the Norwich defender skates on her way to the net. It would be an early-season match-up between a pair of top ten rivals as the #1 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #10 Norwich Cadets at the Ronald Stafford Ice Arena in front of over 500 fans. The visiting Cadets would get the quick opening goal just 1:37 into the game from Ally Lague for the 1-0. That is where the game would stay for the rest of the first period and until the 4:50 mark of the second period when Mattie Norton would tie the game on the powerplay goal. The Cardinals would keep on the pedal and take the lead at the 10:34 mark of the period on the Nicole Unsworth goal to make it 2-1. The Cardinals wouldn't be done though as they would add a third goal at the 16:55 mark on the Annie Katonka goal for the 3-1 game. In the third period, the Cardinals would put the icing on the cake at the 11:08 mark on the powerplay goal by Mattie Norton for her second goal of the night and secure the 4-1 victory. In the winning effort, Ashley Davis would make 19 saves as the Cardinals go to 2-0 on the season. Next up for the Cardinals will be a pair of road games against Buffalo State and Oswego State. SUNYAC Men's Hockey: Oswego State Lakers @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals November 6th 2021

Plattsburgh State's Luk Jirousek (29) battles for the puck in the corner in the offensive zone with an Oswego defender and Marcus Mitchell. t would be the classic SUNYAC contest as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Oswego State Lakers in front of 1600 fans with the early season lead on the line. The game would start well for the Cardinals as Bennett Stockdale would get the opener with 3:44 left in the period to make it 1-0 and let the return of the tennis ball commence as they would come a flying from the stands. Then riding the surge from the goal just two minutes later the Cardinals would strike on the power play from Carson Gallagher to make it 2-0 cardinals. The Lakers would fight back in the second period and get on the board at the 5:26 mark to make it 2-1 on the Tyler Antonucci goal. Then at the 12:48 mark of the period, the Lakers would get the equalizer from Alex Dicarlo to make it 2-2. That is where the game would stay through the rest of the period and the third and overtime for a 2-2 tie. With the tie, Anthony Del Tufo would make 26 saves on 28 shots as they go to 2-1-1 on the season. Next up for the Cardinals would be a road tilt against the Brockport State Golden Eagles. Gallery

#1 Moriah Vikings Vs #2 Ausable Valley Patriots Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Football Class D Championship November 6th 2021

Moriah's Rowan Swan (14) flyes across the goal line on the two-point conversion. It would be the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Class D Football championships and it would be another appearance by the #1 Moriah Vikings expect this time they would be taking on the #2 Ausable Valley Patriots for the right to head to the state playoffs and the road to the carrier dome. The upset-minded Patriots would get the opening score of the game on a 12 yard run by Ethan Snow and would take the 7-0 lead with three minutes left in the first quarter. Although the lead would be short-lived as the Moriah Vikings and Bryce Spraque would run back the ensuing kickoff 83 yards for the score with 1:48 left in the quarter although the two-point conversion would fail and the Patriots would have the slim 7-6 lead. The Vikings would officially take the 12-7 lead as Bryce Spraque would strike again although this time through the air on a 15-yard pass at the 5:16 mark of the second quarter and would stay that way for the first half. The Vikings would expand their lead to 20-7 on a 35-yard keeper by Rowan Swan and would also get the two-point conversion. The Patriots would answer right back on their next drive with Ethan Snow's second rushing touchdown of the day to make it a 20-13 game. That is where the game would end up with the Vikings being crowned the 2021 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Class D Champions although the Patriots wouldn't go down without swinging to get the tying score. With the win, the Vikings enter the NYSPHSAA Class D Tournament at a perfect 8-0 and wait for the winner from the capital district in a couple of weeks while the Ausable Valley Patriots season comes to end at 5-3.
