Plattsburgh Mitch Senecal (8) sneaks through for the touchdown as he loses his helmet as he goes over the goal line. It would be the opening night of the Champlain Valley football season as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Saranac Chiefs. The Hornets would get the first score of the game on a 2 yard run by Brady Pennington to make it 6-0 at the 7:30 mark. The Hornets would extend there lead to 12-0 a 31-yard interception return Harney just 38 seconds later. The Hornets would extend there lead to 18-0 on a 33-yard touchdown reception by Ben Champagne and take that 18-0 lead into the intermission. The game would stay there till 36 seconds of the fourth quarter when Mitch Senecal would score on the QB sneak to make it 25-0 Hornets. Then in the closing minutes of the game, Jason Moore would score on a 52-yard bomb to secure the 33-0 victory. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would take on the St. Michaels Purple Knights in non conference double header attention. The Cardinals would break out of there slump and the offense would come alive. As the Cardinals would get a sweep on the day as they win the games 12-3 and 8-5. It would be the opening game of the Alex Turner Memorial Tournament for both the Clinton County (JR) Mariners and the Champlain Cougars. The game would remain scoreless until the 4th inning when the Mariners would score on error throw first to make it 1-0. The game would stay there til the 6th inning when the Mariners would explode for 4 runs to expand there lead to 5-0. The Cougars wouldn't go quietly though as they would load the bases in the seventh inning and get a run to bust up the shutout. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Oneonta State Red Dragons in SUNYAC conference play. The Red Dragons would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Cardinals would come back in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs helped by an RBI double by Billy Romatabus to make 2-1. The Cardinals would extend the lead to 3-1 on an RBI single by Frank Finkbeiner. The Red Dragons would add a run in the third to make it 3-2. Then in the sixth, the Red Dragons would add three runs and take a 5-3 lead. That would end the scoring on the day and the Cardinals would fall 5-3 and drop to 4-26 on the season. The game would remain scoreless until the third period when the Panthers would break through with three runs and take the 3-0 lead. The Cardinals would get on the board in the fourth inning with a sacrifice bunt to make it 3-1. The Panthers would answer back in the fifth inning with three more runs to make it 6-1 Panthers. At the bottom of the fifth, the Cardinals would keep it close getting two runs to make it 6-4. In the sixth, the Panthers would score one to make it 7-4. At the bottom of the sixth, the Cardinals would score five to make it 9-7 Cardinals. The game would stay there till the ninth when the Panthers would get two runs. In the bottom of the ninth, the Cardinals would get the game-winning run on error pick off attempt at first and the runner would score from second to secure the 10-9 victory. Although it would be the downhill from there for the Cardinals as the Lakers would outscore them 15-0 over the remaining 6 innings as the Cardinals would fall 16-6 and fall to 3-20 on the season, Although leading the way for the Cardinals would be TJ Montalbano as he would go 2-5 with an RBI. Plattsburgh State's Joey Kromer (4) with the tough face-off a win in the snow. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the St Lawrence Saints in Non-Conference action in the middle of a snowstorm. The Cardinals and Saints would be deadlocked after the 1st quarter tied at three and getting goals for the Cardinals would be Ryan Hubbard, Mitchell Labianca, and Brendan Damm. In the second quarter, the Saints would start to take command of the game outscoring the Cardinals 5-0 to take at 8-3 lead at intermission. The Saints would win the third quarter 2-1 to have a 10-4 lead the lone Cardinals goal would be Ryan Hubbard's second goal of the night. In the fourth quarter, the Cardinals would try to do there best but it would be too little too late as they would outscore the Saints 3-1 with goals coming from Mike Gay, Patrick Nash and Brendan Damm second of the night to make the final score 11-7. The Cardinals would have a 3-2 lead after the first quarter with goals from Brendan Damm (2) and Matt Prokescch. In the second quarter, the Engineers would outscore the Cardinals 4-1 and take a 6-4 lead into the break getting the lone goal for the Cardinals would be Ryan Callahan. When the teams would return for the second half the Engineers would win the third quarter 3-1 and have a 9-5 lead the Cardinals goal would come from Joey Kromer. In the fourth quarter, there would only be one goal scored by the Cardinals Patrick Nash. When the third period started the Cardinals would keep control as they would expand the lead to 4-0 on Mackenize Millen's goal. The Cardinals would put the icing on the cake in the final minute of the game on a Bridget Baisley goal to secure the 5-0 victory.
