PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Hornets opened their home schedule in impressive fashion, defeating Champlain Valley Athletic Conference rival Lake Placid 3-1 in a hard-fought volleyball match. The Blue Bombers came out determined to pull off the upset, jumping out to an early five-point lead in the opening set. Plattsburgh responded by steadily chipping away at the deficit before rallying late to claim a narrow 25-23 victory and take a 1-0 lead in the match. Lake Placid answered in the second set. Although the Hornets got off to another strong start, the Blue Bombers stayed within striking distance and eventually took control down the stretch. Their effort paid off with a 25-20 win, evening the match at one set apiece. The momentum shifted back to Plattsburgh in the third set. The Hornets stormed out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back. Lake Placid battled to stay in the set, but Plattsburgh maintained its advantage and secured a 25-17 victory to move ahead 2-1 and put itself one set away from the win. In the fourth set, the Hornets wasted little time taking command. Plattsburgh raced out to a 7-1 advantage and controlled play the rest of the way. The Blue Bombers attempted to mount a comeback, but the Hornets held firm and closed out the match to earn the 3-1 victory. With the win, Plattsburgh improved to 2-0 early in the season, while Lake Placid dropped to 0-3. It would be a matchup in Girls Basketball section VII, with the Lake Placid Blue Bombers and Seton Catholic Knights battling, as they have just a couple of weeks left in the regular season and are going for that all-important playoff seeding. It would be a slow start for both teams as they looked to gain their footing, as the Blue Bombers would have the 7-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Blue Bombers would find their footing as they would have an 11-6 quarter and take the 18-12 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half, it was a defensive contest, with the Blue Bombers holding on for a 7-5 halftime lead and a 25-17 victory. It would be senior day at Seton Catholic, where they would celebrate the first class of seniors to play on their new school field at halftime and host the Lake Placid Blue Bombers. The game would be tight through the first half as both teams would have their chances, but no one could put in the net for a score. When the teams returned for the second half, the Blue Bombers answered early with a goal in the 49th minute to give them the 1-0 lead. Then, in the game's closing minutes, the 76th to be exact, the Blue Bombers would add a second goal to secure the 2-0 win. In the winning effort, the Lake Placid Blue Mombers would go to 6-7-1 on the season as they head into their weekend contest against the Northern Adirondack Bobcats. The Seton Catholic Knights would play their first game at their new on-campus soccer field. It would be a tight game throughout the match as both teams would have their chance to get the match's opening goal. In the end, though the Blue Bombers would get the lone goal of the game in the 77th minute. With the win, the Blue Bombers would go to 2-3 season while the Knights fall to 1-4. Gallery

It would be a matchup inside the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference at Seton Catholic as the Knights would be hosting the Lake Placid Blue Bombers in Boy's Basketball action. The Blue Bombers would come out hot and have the 15-12 lead on the road after the first quarter. However, the home Knights would keep fighting in the second quarter and take the slim 24-23 lead into the intermission on the strength of a 12-8 quarter. When the teams returned for the third quarter the Knights would get their shot going as they would double up the Blue Bombers with a 14-8 quarter and take a 38-31 lead into the 4th quarter. In that fourth quarter, the teams would be very evenly matched and the Knights would get the slim quarter win at 10-9 and secure the 48-40 win for the Knights. In the winning effort, the Knights go to 4-10 on the season and their next matchup will be with the Peru Knighthawks while the Lake Placid Blue Bombers will fall to 4-10 and take on Newcomb next.
