PLATTSBURGH — The Saranac Lake Red Storm continued their strong play Monday night, earning a straight-set victory over the Plattsburgh Hornets in a NYSPHSAA Section VII girls volleyball matchup. Entering the contest with a 5-2 record, Saranac Lake faced a 6-2 Plattsburgh team. The Red Storm rose to the challenge, posting 25-23, 25-21, and 25-18 wins to complete the sweep. The opening set was a tightly contested battle, with both teams trading points throughout. Neither side built a significant lead before Saranac Lake pulled out a 25-23 win to take an early advantage. Plattsburgh continued to battle in the second set and remained within reach late. The Red Storm, however, delivered the decisive stretch, closing on an 8-1 run to secure a 25-21 victory and move within one set of the win. Looking to extend the match, the Hornets fought hard in the third set, but Saranac Lake once again finished strong. The Red Storm ended the set on a 7-2 run, claiming a 25-18 victory and completing the straight-sets sweep. The victory gives Saranac Lake momentum heading into a rivalry showdown at home Tuesday against Saranac in the annual "Battle of the Saranacs."
