Both teams would have the offense going in the first quarter, and we would be deadlocked at the end of the first quarter at 16 a piece. The offenses were still hot in the second quarter as the Hornets would take the quarter 13-10, and the Hornets would take the 29-26 lead into the halftime break. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Vikings would come out hot and look to return to the game. After the third quarter, they would take the lead with a 15-10 quarter and have a slim 41-39 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Hornets would take the quarter 15-13 and go to overtime tied at 54. It would be the battle of the North Country from Memorial Hall as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Potsdam State Bears in Men's Basketball action in front of 575 fans. The game would be tight through the first half as the Cardinals would have the 45-40 lead in a breakneck pace game after the first half. In the second half, it would come down to the last 10 seconds of the game as the Cardinals would come down and hit a layup from Ikechukwu Ezikea to give them the 75-74 lead. But then the Bears would take the inbound pass with three seconds left, and Nicholas Cortez would hit a three-pointer for the win past half court to beat the buzzer as the Bears got the 77-75 victory. In the winning effort, the Bears' Nicholas Cortez would lead the team with 27 points as they go to 3-14 on the season and head into their next game against the Morrisville State Mustangs. It would be the second annual Aimee McLane Memorial Scholarship game from the American North Sports Center; The #14 Saranac Spartans would be hosting the Plattsburgh Hornets as the teams would battle for the conference lead at the season's midpoint. The game would remain scoreless after the period, but not because of the lack of effort on the ice, as the Spartans would outshot the Hornets 16-6. The Hornets would get the game's opening goal at the 9:34 mark of the period when Braden Calkins would snip it by Shawn McLane for the first goal and make it a 1-0 game. Then, in the period's closing minute, the Hornets would get the all-important two-goal lead as Braden Calkins would find the net again for the second time and take the 2-0 lead into the intermission. When the team returned for the third period, both teams would go after it again as the Spartans were hoping for the early goal in the period to help down the stretch. The Spartans would get on the board, but it would be late at the 15:28 mark when Landon Giroux would score on the scramble play to make it a 2-1 game. The game would be tight through the first half, but the Cardinals would have a slim 36-33 lead as they went back and forth through the first half. In the second half, the game would stay tight as both teams would trade the lead back and forth a few times, but the Cardinals would have the 47-45 half as they secured the 83-78 victory. We would have nonconference hockey from the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse as the Beekmantown Eagles would take on out-of-state foe the Bellows Free Academy Bobwhites in Boy's Hockey action. Getting started would be a tight game as both teams would have their chances in the first period, but no one could get it in the back of the net for a score. The Bobwhites would get on the board first in the second period as they would score three goals in a span of 1:27 to take the 3-0 lead. The Eagles would get on the board with 2:41 left when Edward S would get them on the board and make it a 3-1 game after the second period. The third period would open up with the Bobwhites and regain their three-goal lead at 4-1 just 1:20 into the period. The Eagles would answer right back with a goal from Pryce Parker just 90 seconds later to make it a 4-2 game. From there, the Bobwhite's defense would be up to the task and hold on for the win. In the winning effort for the Bobwhites, Phoenix Wells would make 37 saves in the afternoon as they go to 4- 5- 1 on the season and head into their next game against Champlain Valley Union. It would be a battle between a couple of the top teams, SUNYAC Women's Basketball, as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the New Paltz Hawks in front of 175 fans. The game would start well for the top team in the conference as the New Paltz Hawks would have the 24-16 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the defense would step up for the Cardinals as they would hold the Hawks to just eight points, a score of their own, and tie the game at 32 as they entered the intermission. When the teams return for the third quarter, the game stays tight, as the Cardinals win the quarter 17-15 and have the 49-47 lead as they enter the fourth quarter. Also, in the third quarter, we would have a milestone event as Payton Couture would get her 1,000 points as a Cardinal. In the fourth quarter, the Hawks offense would come alive and have a 23-12 quarter as they would secure the 70-61 victory. In the winning effort for the Hawks, they would go to 11-6 in the season, and Abby Korzekwinski would lead all scorers with twenty points in the afternoon. Ogdensburg's Ty Jacobs (35) made the stick save on Brody Macomber (4) as he looked to tie the game, and Jacobs would make 32 saves as the Blue Devils would get the 5-2 win. It would be a rare regular-season meeting between a pair of top-ten-ranked teams in the state as the #10 Saranac Spartans would host the #3 and undefeated Ogdensburg Blue Devils from the American North Sports Center. The visiting #3 Blue Devils would waste little time getting the game's opening goal at the 3:45 mark of the first period when Tegan Frederick would light the lamp for the 1-0 lead. The Spartans would come firing back and tie the game at 7:17 of the period when Gabe Moore would snip the wrister to tie the game at one, which would be the only scoring of the period. The game would stay there till the 9:03 mark of the second period when Nate Irvine would find the back of the net and give the Blue Devils the 2-1 lead, and that's how the second period would end. Then, in the third period, the Blue Devils would extend their lead to 3-1 on Nate Irvine's second goal at 2:30. The Spartans returned 90 seconds later and made it a one-goal game again on the Ryan Campbell goal and made it 3-2. Although the one-goal game would be short-lived as just over a minute later, the Blue Devils would make it a two-goal game again when Rocco Testani would score and make it 4-2. From there, the Blue Devils' defense would finish off the Spartans and add an empty netter late in the game from Laughlin O'Donnell as they secured the 5-2 victory. In the winning effort, the Blue Devils would stay perfect on the season at 13-0 as Ty Jacobs would make 26 saves on the afternoon, and they will be back in action Tuesday as they take on the St. Lawerence Larries. Beekmantown's Jack Bell (31) with one of his many saves on the night, this time putting the stick to work as the Eagles would get the 5-3 win. The Beekmantown Eagles will be back in action at the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena this Friday evening as they leave the section. The host was the Malone Huskies from Section X. The game would start well for the home Eagles as they would get the game's opening goals, which made it a 1-0 game at the 7:14 mark of the first period. The Huskies would keep fighting and get the tying goal at the 11:40 mark of the period on the goal from Parker Russell. Although with just under two minutes left in the period, the Eagles could regain the lead at 2-1 when Parker Pryce would light a lamp, and that's how they would head into the first intermission. When the teams would return for the second period, the Huskies would waste little time tying the game up again, this time from Tristan Russell at the 3:16 mark. The game would stay there till the 14:00 mark of the period. Novak Jarus would get his second goal 3-2 lead at the end of the second period. When we returned for the third, the Huskies would fight and tie the game up again for the third time in the evening, with Jake Kaska's goal at the 3:41 mark of the third period. The Eagle would ming and retake the lead, this time at 4-3, on the Mason Carter goal. And t, and in the closing seconds of the game, Novak Jarus added his third goal on the empty netter to secure the 5-3 win. With the win, the Eagles would go to 8-4-1 on the season. They are back in action tomorrow against Bellows Falls. It would be Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Basketball action from Plattsburgh as the home Hornets would meet up with the rival crosstown Peru Nighthawks on a Friday Night. The game would start well for the Hornets as they would start by doubling up the Nighthawks at 16-8 after the first quarter. The teams would be a little more equal in the second quarter, but the Hornets would win the quarter slightly at 9-7 and take the 25-15 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Hornets would be hot, double up the Nighthawks again, this time at 20-10, and take the 45-25 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, with the outcome of the game no longer in doubt, the teams would empty the benches, and the Nighthawks would win the fourth quarter at 10-6, but it would not be enough on this day as the Hornets would get the 51-35 victory. In the winning effort, the Hornets will go to 8-4 on the season as they head on the road tomorrow with a nonleague game against the Ogdensburg Blue Devils. It would be the return of the battle of the North Country as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host their travel partners, the Potsdam State Bears, from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in front of 1,000 fans on poster night with the rare midweek game. The upset-minded Bears would get the game's opening goal on the powerplay from Eli Douhart-Wood at the 10:45 mark of the first period. The Cardinals would keep coming and equalize the game at one with the Kevin Weaver Vitale goal at the 17:16 mark of the period. Then, with just 25 seconds left in the period, the Cardinals would take the 2-1 lead on the goal from Jake Sacratini, and that's how they would head to the intermission. The game would stay until the 12:09 mark of the second period when Brody Spencer Ha would extend the lead to 3-1. The Bears would not be going away on this night as they would make it a one-goal game at the 17:21 mark on the Michael Campbell goal, and we would head to the second intermission with the Cardinals having the 3-2 lead.
