Beekmantown Eagles @ Saranac Spartans February 19th, 2025
Saranac's Landon Girpux (17) with the goal as he beats Beekmantown's Jack Bell (31) for the eventual game-winning goal as the Spartans get the 3-2 win. It would be the last day of the regular season, and the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference title would be on the line, and the Beekmantown Eagles and the Saranac Spartans would face off at the Amer Can North Sports Center. The home Saranac Spartans would get the opening goal of the game and the lone goal of the first period when Evan Patrie found the back of the net and hit the back of the Eagles netminder for the goal and a 1-0 lead. In the second period, the Spartans would keep it coming, and in the 7th minute of the period, Adrian Barnes would find the back of the net and make it a 2-0 game. The Spartans would keep coming, and at the 15:13 mark of the second period, Landon Giroux would score on the shorthand when he beat Jack Bell on the short side for the 3-0 lead. Although the Eagles would do their version of the basketball buzzer beater as they would get on the board on the Edward Sweenor goal as the second period came to a close, and the Spartans would take the 3-1 lead into the third. In the third period, the Eagles would get the game within one on Edward Sweenor's second goal at 4:24. From there, the Spartans would ret and regain the two-goal lead, and the Eagles looked for the tying goal, but neither would happen. The Saranac Spartans would get the 3-2 win and hand the Eagles their first conference loss in over 3 seasons. However, the Beekmantown Eagles would be crowned the 2024-25 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference champions through the tiebreaker on goal differential by 1. In the winning effort for the Spartans, Shawn McLane would make 21 saves on the night as they go to 12-7-1 in the season and will take on the Plattsburgh Hornets in the upcoming sectional playoffs. As for the Beekmantown Eagles, Jack Bell would make 36 saves on the night as they fall to 11-7-2 on the season, get the #1 seed in the tournament, and get the winner of Saranac Lake Placid and Northeastern Clinton in the semi-finals. Saranac Spartans @ Plattsburgh Hornets February 17th, 2025
Saranac's Asgton Catlin (11) with the backhand goal that beats out Plattsburgh's Owen Chapple (72) as Catlin has two goals on the night and the Spartans would get the 5-1 win. It would be the Ameri-Can North Sports Center as the Plattsburgh Hornets would take on their arena mates, the Saranac Spartans, in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action as they battle for the last couple of games of the regular season. The Spartans would come out on the take and fire through the first period, controlling most of the period, and Ashton Catlin would get the lone goal of the period at the 11:48 mark of the period to give them the 1-0 lead, and that's how the first period would end. The Spartans would stay hot as the teams returned for the second period and extend their lead to 2-0 at 7:42 when Evan Patrie would finish the two-on-one attack. The Spartans would keep coming and make it a 3-0 game when Ryan Campbell scored on the power play at 11:22. The Spartans would add a third goal of the period with 34 seconds left when Ashton Catlin would get his second of the game as the Spartans take the 4-0 lead after two periods. When the teams returned for the period, the Hornets would get one at the 6:11 mark from Braeden Calkins to avoid the shutout and make it a 4-1 game. The Spartans would stay on the gas and add a fifth goal at the 10:08 mark of the period when Landon Giroux would score to make it 5-1, and from there, the Spartans would hold on for the win. In the winning effort, the Spartans go to 11-7-1 on the season as they head into the season finale Wednesday night and take on the Beekmantown Eagles with first place on the line. As for the Plattsburgh Hornets, they fall to 9-7-3 in the season, and they will take on the Northeastern Clinton Cougars in the regular season finale. Gallery
Fredonia State Blue Devils @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 15th, 2025
With the shot on net, Plattsburgh State's Tyler Ramm (28) beats the goalie to tie the game at 2 in the second period as the Cardinals get the 4-3 victory. It would be the regular season finale from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Fredonia State Blue Devils as they battle it out to get a playoff spot in the SUNYAC Tournament in front of 1200 fans. The road Blue Devils would look to spoil the Cardinal's chances at the playoffs as they would get the game's opening goal at the 9:17 mark of the first period when Sam Chrenka would score to make it 1-0. The Cardinals would come back and tie the game up at the 12:33 mark of the period when Kevin Weaver Vitale would find the back of the net for the powerplay goal, and the first period would end tied at one. The Blue Devils would retake the lead at the 11:14 mark of the second period when Gavin Bloder would find the net and give them the 2-1 lead. The Cardinals would keep coming and tie the game again with 40 seconds left in the period on Tyler Ramm's goal, and the teams would go into the break tied at two. Then, the Blue Devils would regain the lead for the third time on the night. Gavin Bloder would score at the 4:55 mark of the period on the power play to make it a 3-2 game. The Cardinals would answer back, though, in the tenth minute of the period when they would score twice from Blake Hall and Tyler Ramm to give them the 4-3 lead, and from there, they would have the shutdown defense to secure the 4-3 and clinch a spot in the playoffs. In the winning effort for the Cardinals, Jacob Hearne would make 32 saves as they go to 13-10-1 on the season and head into their season finale against the Potsdam State Bears. As for the Fredonia State Blue Devils, Jameson Kaine would make 33 saves as they fall to 7-17 on the season and head into the season finale against the Buffalo State Bengals. Gallery
Canton Kangaroos @ #8 Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 15th 2025
Plattsburgh State's Chloe Lewis (30) with the stick save as she would have back-to-back shutouts against Canton over the weekend in the 4-0 win. It would be the second game of the weekend doubleheader for the #8 Plattsburgh State Cardinals and the Canton Kangaroos from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in SUNYAC Women's Hockey in front of 400 fans. The Cardinals would start the scoring quickly as they would take the 1-0 lead just 3:36 into the game on the Mattie Norton goal. The Cardinals would not be done, and they would make it 2-0 just two minutes later when Bridget Orr would find the back of the net, where the first period would end. The Cardinals would keep coming and make it 3-0 on Bridget Orr's second goal of the game at the 4:33 mark of the period, and that's where the second period would end. With the game in hand in the third period, the Cardinals would make it 4-0 on Mae Olshansky's powerplay goal at 15:58 to secure the victory. In the winning effort for the Cardinal, Chloe Lewis would make 18 saves for the shutout as the Cardinals go to 18-5-1 on the season as they head into their season finale against Williams on Wednesday on the road. As for the Canton Kangaroos, Molly Lenihan would make 23 saves as they fall to 6-15-2 on the season and head into their regular-season finale with a doubleheader against the Morrisville State Mustangs next weekend. Buffalo State Bengals @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 14th, 2025
Plattsburgh State's Kevin Weaver Vitale (8) with the game-winning breakaway goal in overtime for the 5-4 win. It would be the start of the last regular season weekend from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as the Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the Buffalo State Bengals as they battle to get in the playoffs in front of 1200 fans. The game would start well for the home Cardinals as they would open scoring with 2:45 left in the first period on the power play goal from Patrick Cole for the 1-0 lead. The Cardinals would keep the scoring going early in the second when Brannon Butler would score to make it 2-0 just 1:45 into the second period. Then, at the 9:15 mark of the period, the Cardinals would make it a 3-0 game on the Tyler Ramm powerplay. The Bengals could cut the difference to 3-1 at the 14:40 mark of the period when Jason Kwestel would score on the powerplay. The Bengals would make it a 3-2 game with 8 seconds left in the period on the Connor Bizal goal. The game would stay there till the 18:17 mark of the third period when the Cardinals would make it 4-2 on the Jake Lanyi empty-net goal, and we thought the game was over. However, that would be the calm before the storm as the Bengals would score 2 with the extra attacker from Tyler Penree and Austin Micale to force overtime tied at four. In the overtime frame, the Cardinals would get the winner with 51 seconds left as Kevin Weaver Vitale would beat the goalie on the top shelf and get the 5-4 win. In the winning effort for the Cardinals, they would go to 12-10-1 in the season, as Jacob Hearne would make 24 saves, and they would take on Fredonia State in the last home game of the season. Canton Kangaroos @ #8 Plattsburgh State Cardinals February 14th 2025
Plattsburgh State's Kayson Ruegge (3) with the goal that she slides past the goaltender to get the scoring started as they would get the 3-0 win. It would be a late-season tilt from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena as the #8 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would face off with the Canton Kangaroos in the SUNYAC as they look to improve their seeding in the upcoming playoff with 300 fans in attendance. For the first half of the game, both teams would have their defense on display, as no one could find the back of the net. The Cardinals would find the net with 1:51 left in the second as Kayson Ruegge would light the lamp for the 1-0. The Cardinals would extend their lead to 2-0 just 89 seconds later when Molly Riggi would light the lamp, and that's how the period would end. The game would stay there till the 18:21 mark of the third period when Molly Riggi would get her second goal, this time c, coming on the empty netter as the Cardinals would get the 3-0 win. In the winning effort for the Cardinals, Chloe Lewis would make 17 saves for the shutout victory as they go to 17-5-1 on the season and go for the weekend sweep tomorrow afternoon against the Canton Kangaroos. Northeastern Clinton Cougars @ Saranac Spartans February 12th, 2025
Saranac's Nolan Miner (9) with the breakaway goal that he sneaks past the pads of Northeastern Clinton's Greyson LaFountain (1) as the Spartans get the 7-0 win. It would be a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference match-up from the American North Sports Center between the Northeastern Clinton Cougars and the Saranac Spartans. On this night, we would celebrate the eight careers of the graduating 2025 senior class before the game. Once the game got underway, the Spartans would be in control as they would get the game's opening goal at the 3:00 mark from Gabe Moore for the 1-0 lead. In the eighth minute of the game, the Spartans would make it 2-0 as Landon Giroux would find the back of the net for the Spartans. The Spartans would add another goal late to take the 3-0 lead after the first period. In the second period, the Spartans would get the lone goal of the period from Nolan Miner at the 6:30 mark to extend their lead to 4-0, and that's where the period would end. In the third period, the Spartans would waste little time making it a 5-0 game 12 seconds into the period, thanks to Ryan Campbell lighting the lamp. Then, in the 4th minute, the Spartans would make it a 6-0 game, and Gabe Moore would find the net for his second goal to finish scoring at the 13:20 mark of the third period. Nolan Miner would get his second goal of the game as the Spartans secured the 7-0 victory. In the winning effort, the Spartans would go to 10-7-1 on the season as they head into their next game against the Plattsburgh Hornets on February 17th. As for the Northeastern Clinton Cougars would fall to 2-15-1 on the season as they will head into a nonleague contest against Norwood-Norfolk on February 15th. Gallery
Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers @ Beekmantown Eagles February 11th, 2025
Bekmantown's Pryce Parker and Saranac Lake/Lake Placid's Carson St. Louis (11) battle after the puck as the Lakers look to get back in the game that would see the Eagles get the 4-2 win. It would be a matchup inside the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena between the host Beekmantown Eagles and the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers as we stretch in the season. The game would be tight through the first 20 minutes, as there would be no scoring. The Eagles would finally get the game's first goal to break the ice at the 1:24 mark of the period on the Pierce Dominy goal. The Eagles would waste little time making it a 2-0 game on Novak Jarus's goal just 34 seconds later. Then, with just over two minutes left in the period, the Eagles would extend the lead to 3-0 on Novak Jarus's power-play goal and his second of the game to end the second period. When the teams returned for the third period, the Lakers wasted little time getting back into the game as they scored twice in the first six minutes from Ayden McCormick and Braden Harvey to make it a 3-2 game. The Eagles would return in the 7th minute and take the two-goal lead back on the Pryce Parker goal at 4-2. From there, the Eagle's defense would hold the Lakers in check and get the 4-2 win as they go to 10-5-2, and Jack Bell would make 17 saves as they head into a tournament this weekend at Salmon River. As for the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers, Cassidy Goodman would make 33 saves as they fall to 6-9-1 on the season and head to their regular-season finale against the Malone Huskies. Gallery
Moriah Vikings @ Plattsburgh Hornets January 14th 2025
Moriah's Emma Harrington (4) with the floater in the lane for the score as the Moriah Vikings get the 46-38 victory. It would be a battle inside the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference as the #14 Moriah Vikings would travel up to Plattsburgh and take on the Hornets in a late-season tilt. The game would start well for the Vikings as their defense would be up to the task, and they would jump out to a 14-5 lead after the first quarter. It would be more of the same in the second quarter as they would hold the Hornets to nine points while getting another 15 for themselves to take the 29-14 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Hornets would regroup themselves, come out on fire, and take the third 12-7 to tighten up the game at 36-26 as they entered the fourth quarter. It would be the tightest of them all in the fourth quarter as the Hornets would get the quarter 12-10, although the Vikings would hold on for the 46-38 victory. In the winning effort for the Vikings, they would go to 15-4 on the season as they head into their final regular season game next Tuesday against the Northern Adirondack Bobcats. As for the Plattsburgh Hornets, they fall to 6-14 as they finish their season, head to the Section VII Class A Playoffs, and take on the Beekmantown Eagles in the semi-finals. Gallery
Saranac Spartans @ Plattsburgh Hornets February 10th 2025
Plattsburgh's Bryan Kemokai (2) with the three from deep as the Hornets defeat the Spartans 65-53 on senior night. It would be a battle inside the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference from Plattsburgh High School, and it would see the host Hornets take on the Saranac Spartans on senior night. The Hornets would start the game hot as they jumped out to the 25-17 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Spartans would do much better keeping the game close through the quarter as the Hornets would win the quarter 14-10 and take the 39-27 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Spartans could stay with the Hornets and maintain the deficit as they would win the quarter 12-11, but the Hornets would stay on top at 50-39. As they head into the fourth quarter, the Spartans would hang with the Hornets again, but the Hornets would take the quarter 15-14 and secure the 65-53 victory. In the winning effort for the Hornets, they will go to 11-7 on the season as they head on the road for their last two games. As for the Saranac Spartans, they fall to 7-10 on the season as they head into their game Wednesday against the Ticonderoga Sentinels. Gallery
