Gouverneur Spring Derby - St. Lawrence Fairgrounds - May 6th 2018
Al Dean (8) with the crunching hit on 66 truck and folds the whole bed right up. It would be the annual spring demolition derby at the St Lawrence County Fairgrounds in Gouverneur. There would be around 40 cars for the afternoon of smashing and crunching. When it was all said and done the winner would be Chris Ames and he would take home a $750 check for the win and a spot in the feature at the derby during the fair in August. Gallery
65th Season Opener Presented by Day Brothers Boats and Law Enforcement Night - Airborne Park Speedway - May 5th 2018
Justin Severance (4) would put the car on the side but it stays on all four wheels during a wild wreck in turn three and four other drivers involved in the crash were Zack Daniels (30), Thomas Cook (35), and Mike Palmer (85p). It would an opening night of the season at Airborne Park Speedway Presented by Day Brothers Boats along with Law Enforcement Night. It noticed early in the night that the drivers were eager to get the season started and get that first race win of the season. As there would be many cautions throughout the night along with a couple of red flags. There would be a total of 82 cars on the grounds split up over the five divisions with the most being in the Sportsman Modified division with 37 cars on grounds. As the racing action, it would start with Shawn Walker winning the Strictly Stock, then Brent Jarvis winning the Super Stock, then Bucko Branham in the Sportsman Modified, Chris Raabe 358 Modified and end with Zack Woods winning the Mini-Modified division. The action will be back next weekend (May 12th) with Autograph night presented by A-Verdi Storage Containers.
Plattsburgh State Cardinals Vs Canton Kangaroos - May 3rd 2018
Plattsburgh State's Stephen Bryant (3) corrals the grounder on the hop to short and fires across for the out. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would end the home portion of there season with a doubleheader against the Canton Kangaroos. The first game of the doubleheader would be a nailbiter although the Cardinals would get the 7-6 victory. In the nightcap of the doubleheader, it would be a pitchers duels and few costly errors would seal the Kangaroos faith as the Cardinals would get the 3-1 victory. With the sweep on the day, the Cardinals would improve there record to 12-24 on the season. Gallery.
Plattsburgh State Cardinals Vs St. Michael's Purple Knights - April 24th 2018
Plattsburgh State's Anthony Maag (18) with the tag on the St. Michael's baserunner attempting to score. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would take on the St. Michaels Purple Knights in nonconference doubleheader attention. The Cardinals would break out of there slump and the offense would come alive. As the Cardinals would get a sweep on the day as they win the games 12-3 and 8-5. The Cardinals return to play Friday as they travel to Fredonia for three games as part of weekend series to close out SUNYAC play. Gallery.
Plattsburgh State Cardinals Vs #21 Oswego State Lakers - April 22nd 2018
Plattsburgh State's Noah Clark (22) with the tag on the Oswego State baserunner on the grounder down the first baseline. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the #21 Oswego State Lakers in there final SUNYAC home game of the season. The Cardinals would do there best to keep the game close expect for a 5 run second and a 4 run eight. With that being said the Cardinals would fall to the Lakers by a score of 11-2. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 8-21 on the season. The Cardinals will take back to the field April 24th with a doubleheader against St. Michael's Gallery.
Plattsburgh State Cardinals Vs Brockport State Golden Eagles - March 31st 2018
Plattsburgh State's Connor Lyons (11) with the tag at second base on the attempted steal of second base. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would open up the home portion of there season. As they would host the Brockport State Golden Eagles in a double header action It would be a couple of games that the Cardinals would try there best stay with them and they would be close early. In the end, though the Golden Eagles would get the sweep on the day with 4-0 and 7-2 victories. With the two losses on the day the Cardinals fall to 6-12 on the season. The Cardinal's next game will be on Wednesday as they travel to Skidmore. Gallery.
Plattsburgh State Cardinals Vs R.P.I. Engineers March 28th 2018
Plattsburgh State's Ryan Hubbard (5) with the jump shot in front of the net as part of a two-goal game. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host the R.P.I. Engineers in nonleague action the first quarter the Engineers would get the only two goals for the 2-0 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the offense would come alive for the Cardinals as they would score four goals from Billy Moller (2), Kevin Litchauer and Ryan Hubbard. Although the Engineers would also get two goals and the game would be tied at 4-4 as the teams went into halftime. In the third quarter, the Cardinals would get outscored 3-1 to make it 7-5 with the lone Cardinal goal coming from Brad Johnston. In the fourth quarter, the Engineers would put the icing on the cake as they outscored the Cardinals 4-1 with the Cardinal goal coming from Ryan Hubbard as the Cardinals fall 11-6. In the losing effort, the Cardinals would fall to 1-6 on the season. Gallery.
#1 Moriah Vikings Vs #10 Whitehall Railroaders High School Boy's Basketball March 10th 2018
The Moriah Vikings celebrate as they are heading back to the state final four to defend their state title. The #1 Moriah Vikings would square off with the #10 Whitehall Railroaders in the New York State Class D Quarterfinals. The game would be close to starting out as the Moriah Vikings would have the slim 16-13 lead over the Railroaders after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the game would still be tight although the Vikings would extend there lead with a 14-12 quarter and take a 30-25 lead at intermission. When the teams came back from the break they would be even through the third quarter at 18 and the Vikings would take the 48-43 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter is when the Vikings would pull away and put the game out of reach would a 26-18 quarter and secure the 74-61 victory. In the winning effort, Dylan Trombley would lead the way with 32 points as the Vikings head back to the state final four. Gallery.
#2 Plattsburgh State Cardinals Vs #4 Middlebury Panthers March 10th 2018
The Plattsburgh State Cardinals celebrate as they advance to there sixth straight NCAA Division III Frozen Four. The #2 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would host longtime rival #4 Middlebury Panthers in the NCAA Quarterfinals. The game would remain scoreless until the 14:34 mark of the second period when Erin McCardle would get the tip-in goal for the 1-0 Cardinals lead. Although just over three minutes later the Panthers would tie the game up on the power-play goal. The Cardinals would regain the lead at the 6:58 mark of the third period on the Ashley Songin scramble in front of the 2-1 lead. Then in the final minute of the game, the Cardinals would ice it away on Mackenzie Millen's empty netter. In the winning effort, the Cardinals advance to Frozen Four and Kassi Abbott gets 26 saves. Peru Indians Vs Canton Golden Bears High School Boy's Basketball March 8th 2018
Peru's Hunter Caron (5) with the straight-on three over the Canton defender. The Peru Indians would host the Canton Golden Bears in the First Round of the New York State Class B Playoffs. The Golden Bears would jump out to a quick 15-8 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Golden Bears would expand on the lead with 16-4 quarters and have a 31-12 lead at intermission. When the teams came back for the second half the Indians would regroup but the Golden Bears would still be to much and win the quarter 14-10 and take a 45-22 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Golden Bears would let of the throttle and cruise as the Indians win the quarter 11-7 although the Golden Bears would win the game 54-33. With the loss, the Peru Indians season would come to end. Gallery.
