For the second time in three days, the Plattsburgh Hornets would the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers in Girl's Hockey action. The game would look like it was going to start the same as the last meeting as the Hornets would take the 1-0 lead at the 4:30 mark of the first period on the Giroux goal. Although this time the Lakers would have an answer to the Hornets defense and get the tying goal with 90 seconds left in the opening period. In the second period, the Hornets would answer back quick to regain the one-goal lead at 2-1 on the Johnston goal. Then just over three minutes later the Hornets would strike again and get the two-goal lead on the Amanda Vaughn goal at 3-1. The Lakers would still have fought in them and cut the lead in half at 3-2 at the 6:52 mark of the second period. The Lakers would keep up their attack and would eventually get that game-tying goal at 3-3 with just over nine minutes to go in the game. Although the tie would be short-lived as the Hornets would take the lead back at 4-3 just ten seconds later. It was starting to look like the Hornets were going to get the win but with 33 seconds left in the game, the Lakers would get the tying goal with the extra attacker on the ice. The teams would head to overtime but the extra would be of no help on this night as the game would end in a 4-4 tie.Gallery

Plattsburgh's Giroux with the tap-in goal right in front. It would be an Upstate New York Girl's Hockey League contest as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers at the Amer-can North Sports Center. The game would get started well for the host Hornets as they would take the 1-0 lead 3:20 into the game on the Mackenzie Brown goal. Then at the ten-minute mark of the period, the Hornets would extend their lead to 2-0 on the Emily Vaughan goal as Brown would have the assist. Then with just over two minutes left in the game, the Hornets would strike again for a 3-0 lead again from Mackenzie Brown for the second goal of the game and third point of the contest. In the second period, the Lakers would play their hearts out and keep the Hornets off the board but the Lakers would have no answer and the game would stay 3-0 after the second period. Then about halfway through the third period, the Hornets would strike again this time from Giroux for the 4-0 lead. Then with just over five minutes left in the game, the Hornets would add one more for good measure and complete the 5-0 shutout victory on the Emily Vaughan goal. Saranac Lake/Lake Placid's Rhett Darrah would slide it past Plattsbiurgh's Ty Conklin's pad to give the Hornets the two-goal lead. The teams would have a feeling out process through the early part of the first period. Eventually, Plattsburgh's Austin Lucas would get the opening goal of the game at the 6:34 mark of the first period and that's how the first period would end. In the second period though the Lakers wouldn't take long to tie the game up at one Dylan Annell goal. Then just under the five-minute mark of the second period the Lakers would take the 2-1 lead once again coming from Dylan Annell. Then in the closing seconds of the second period, Rhett Darrah would come down on the breakaway and slide it by the Hornets goalie for the 3-1 cushion. In the third period, the Hornets wouldn't go quietly as Drew Knowles would score just about at the midway mark to make it a one-goal game again at 3-2. Then with about 5:30 left in the game, the Hornets would get the tying goal to make it 3-3. Just when the game was starting to look like we were headed for overtime Rhett Darrah would strike again for his second goal of the game with 14 seconds left in the game to give the Lakers the 4-3 win. In the winning effort, the Lakers would go to 1-2 on the season while the Hornets would finish the regular season at 0-12 and will get ready for their playoff game against Northeastern Clinton on March 27th. Saranac Lake's Jarrett Ashton (9) with the stiff arm to Au Sable Valley's Mason Douglas (44) as he takes it for the big gain. It would be the #2 Au Sable Valley Patriots hosting the #3 Saranac Lake Red Storm in the Section 7 Class C Semi-Finals. The Red Storm would get the first score of the game from Jarrett Ashton on a 12 yard run to take the 6-0 lead 5:14 into the first quarter. The Red Storm would extend there lead to 14-0 on Jarrett Ashton's 1 yard run in the closing minute of the first quarter. The Patriots would answer back 3:37 into the second quarter with a 2 yard run by Matthew Pray to to make it a 14-6 game. The Red Storm would come back to regain there 14 point lead on a 19 yard pass to Ward Walton at 7:32 on the second quarter to make it 21-6. When the teams came back for the second half the Red Storm would not let up as they would extend the lead to 28-6 on Jarrett Ashton's third touchdown run of the night. In the fourth quarter the Red Storm's DJ Morgan would a running touchdown to put the icing on the cake of a 35-6 victory. In the winning effort the Red Storm go 2-6 and will face the Saranac Chiefs in the Class C Championship. In the losing effort the Patriots season comes to end at 1-7.Gallery

SLP goaltender Anders Stanton stonewalls a rebound attempt by Queensbury senior Brendan Duffy in the second period of the NYSPHSAA boys’ ice hockey regional Saturday at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena. The Section VII Champion Saranac Lake/Lake Placid boys’ hockey team’s inaugural season ended Saturday with a 6-4 loss to Queensbury in the NYSPHSAA Regionals at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena. SLP, playing without leading goalscorer Dylan Amell for the game, opened the scoring just 3:55 into the game with a goal from junior forward Rhett Darrah, only to see junior Devon Salone equalize for the visitors at the 11:13 mark of the first period. Queensbury nearly gained the lead in the final minute of the opening frame, when senior forward Brendan Duffy danced his way through the SLP defense for a close-range shot, forcing a save from goaltender Anders Stanton. The second period was an active one for goalscorers, with five goals in the period. Less than a minute after the intermission, Darrah netted his second of the game off the rebound to go-ahead 2-1, but that lead lasted a little more than a minute before senior defenseman Josh DeMattos again tied the score for Queensbury. SLP nudged in front again at the 5:15 mark when senior Camden Reilley found twine, and the host team reached the midpoint of the game having never trailed on the scoreboard. Queensbury’s freshman defenseman Jared Chamberlain worked his way into the low slot before beating Stanton at the 9:45 mark of the second period, again tying the game. That was when the momentum shifted. DeMattos got his second tally of the contest off a defensive turnover by SLP, giving Queensbury its first lead of the day. SLP senior Hunter Wilmot had a golden opportunity to answer that in the dying moments of the second period when he got his stick to bouncing puck inches above the goal line in front of an open net with Queensbury goaltender Blake Powers well out of the crease. Disrupted by DeMattos, Wilmot couldn’t find the leverage to direct the puck, and it sailed past the far post. Queensbury extended their lead to three goals in the third, with tallies from Paul Wright and Salone. Sophomore defenseman Carter Sturgeon beat Powers with a wrist shot from just inside the blue line at 13:27, but Queensbury held on for the 6-4 victory to advance to the NYSPHSAA Semifinals at Buffalo’s Harborcenter. Powers made 19 saves in the win, while Stanton stopped 40 shots in net for SLP. Gallery
