The game would remain scoreless after the period, but not because of the lack of effort on the ice, as the Spartans would outshot the Hornets 16-6. The Hornets would get the game's opening goal at the 9:34 mark of the period when Braden Calkins would snip it by Shawn McLane for the first goal and make it a 1-0 game. Then, in the period's closing minute, the Hornets would get the all-important two-goal lead as Braden Calkins would find the net again for the second time and take the 2-0 lead into the intermission. When the team returned for the third period, both teams would go after it again as the Spartans were hoping for the early goal in the period to help down the stretch. The Spartans would get on the board, but it would be late at the 15:28 mark when Landon Giroux would score on the scramble play to make it a 2-1 game. However, this night, Plattsburgh Hornets Owen Chapple was up to the task as he would make 44 of 45 saves on the night as they go to 6-6-2 and will be back into action Friday night against the Beekmantown Eagles. We would have Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Boy's Hockey, and for the second time in a week, the Saranac Lake Placid Lakers would come to Plattsburgh and the Ameri-can Sports Center as they would take on the Plattsburgh Hornets. The Hornets would get on the board at the 10:45 mark of the first period on the Chase Laravia goal to make it a 1-0 game. Then, about 90 seconds later, the Hornets would expand their lead to 2-0 on the Lucas Dashnaw goal, and that's where the first period would end. The game would stay there till the third period, as there would be no scoring in the second period. In the third period, the Hornets would make it a 3-0 game at the 11:12 mark on the Braeden Calkins. The Lakers would get on the board with just under two minutes left in the game on the Ayden McCormick goal to make it a two-goal game again at 3-1. The Hornets would finish the game in the final minute on the empty netter from Braeden CalkCalkins'l to secure the 4-1 win. With the win, the Plattsburgh Hornets go to 2-4-1 on the season as they head into their tournament in Albany next weekend. It would be the classic Section VII rivalry with the Beekmantown Eagles hosting the Plattsburgh Hornets from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena. Still, this game would have a different meaning today as it would be the annual Hannah's Hope as they raise money to help find a cure for the horrible disease that has stricken the girl. The game would start fast and well for the home Eagles as Edward Sweenor would light the lamp just 29 seconds into the game for the early 1-0 Eagles lead. The Hornets would come back and tie the game at the 3:55 mark on the rebound goal from Cooper Holland. Then, no more than 90 seconds after that, the upset-minded Hornets would take the 2-1 lead on the powerplay goal from Braeden Calkins. The lead for the Hornets would be short-lived as Edward Sweenor would get the tying goal just over a minute later for his second of the game, and the first period would end tied at 2. In the second period, the Eagles would get the lone goal from Edward Sweenor to complete the hat trick on the day at the 6:10 mark to make it a 3-2 game. Then, in the third period, in the early minutes, the Eagles would make it a two-goal game on the Novak Jarus goal at 4-2, and that's where the game would finish. In the winning effort, Jack Bell would make 30 saves on the night and go to 4-3 on the season as they head into their game against Northeastern Clinton on January 7th. As for the Plattsburgh Hornets, Owen Chapple would make 27 saves on the night and fall to 3-5-1 on the season as they head into their game on January 11th against the Saranac Lake Placid Lakers. The Plattsburgh Hornets would open up the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference portion of their season with a home tilt against the Northeastern Clinton Cougars from the Ameri-can North Sports Complex. The Hornets would get the game's opening goal at the 6:37 mark of the first period when Cooper Holland would sneak it by the netminder for the 1-0 Hornets lead. The game would stay there till the 6:50 mark of the second period when Sam Bezio would snip by the Cougars goalie for the 2-0 lead. The Hornets would keep coming and expand their lead to 3-0 at 9:07 into the second period when Braeden Calkins would score. Then, at the 10:01 mark of the third period, the Hornets would put the icing on the cake with the game's second goal by Sam Bezio and take the 4-0 lead, and from there, they would hold on for the win. In the winning effort, Owen Chapple would make 17 saves for the shutout victory as they go to 3-4-1 on the season before they head into their meeting against the Beekmantown Eagles on Saturday. As for the Northeastern Clinton Cougars, Greyson LaFountain would make 33 saves in the losing effort, and they drop to 0-5 on the season and will have the Saranac Spartans on Saturday at the Rouses Point Civic Center. It would be the opening night of the High School Hockey season, and see the Plattsburgh Hornets host the Lasalle Cadets from Section 2 from the Ameri-can North Arena. The game would start well for the road Cadets as they would get the game's opening goal in the first five minutes of the contest. The Hornets would keep coming and tie the game up at one at the 8:19 mark of the first period when Colby Chase would get his first goal. The game would not stay tied very long cause at the 10:46 mark of the period, just two minutes later, the Hornets would take the 2-1 lead on the Lucas Dashnaw power-play goal to give the Hornets the 2-1 lead, and that's where the first period ended. There would be no scoring in the second period of the game, but both teams would have their chances to take the lead; they just couldn't put it away. When the teams head to the third period, the Cadets do not waste time tying the game up, as they get the equalizer from Michael Nocera at 4:53. The rest of the period and overtime would go by without the teams finding the net again and the game would end in a 2-2 tie. Both goalies would be on point for the opener as Carter Irving for the Cadets and Owen Chapple for the Hornets would have over 30 saves on the net as both teams start the season 0-0-1.
