Holiday Inn Express Cardinal Classic Day 2: Utica Pioneers @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals November 16th 2024 18th 2023
Plattsburgh State's Kayla Johannesen (24) with the three from the wing as the Cardinals would get the 67-40 victory. It would be the last game of the 2024 Holiday Inn Express Cardinal Classic, and it would be the host Plattsburgh State Cardinals from the SUNYAC taking on the Utica Pioneers from the Empire 8 as they would celebrate the 50 years of women's in sports on the NCAA level. The Cardinals would start hard against the Pioneers and have the 22-6 lead after the opening quarter. In the second quarter, the Pioneers would do their best to slow the Cardinals down, but they would still win the quarter 15-7 and take the 37-13 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter, the Pioneers would have their best offensive quarter as they would score 15, but the Cardinals would still beat them with 21 as they took the 58-28 lead into the 4th quarter. In that fourth quarter, the teams would empty the benches, and the Pioneers would win the quarter 12-9, but the Cardinals would hold for a convincing 67-40 victory. Julia Greek would lead the way with 13 points in the winning effort as the Cardinals scored 2-1 on the season. SUNYAC Women's Soccer: Potsdam State Bears @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals October 23rd 2024

Plattsburgh State's Ella Santomassimo (18) with the step through as she gets the ball from Potsdam State's Jaidan Kertensis (7) along the sidelines. We would SUNYAC Women's Soccer action from the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse Soccer complex as they would host the Potsdam State Bears and were looking for their first win at home this season. The Cardinals would get the match's opening goal in the tenth minute as Kelly Licata would score for her third goal of the season and the 1-0 lead. The Cardinals and Kelly Licata would strike again in the 25th minute as they would take the 2-0 lead. The Cardinals would stay hot and extend the lead to 3-0 in the 32nd second minute when Allison Brown would score her third of the season and give them the 3-0 lead, and that's how the half would end. In the second half, both teams would have their chances but could not find the back of the net as the Cardinals would get the 3-0 win and improve their record to 4-11-1 on the season as they head into their final game Saturday against Canton. As for the Potsdam State Bears, they will fall to 3-13 in the season. Gallery

SUNYAC Men's Soccer: #22 Oneonta State Red Dragons @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals October 9th 2024

Oneonta State's AJ Lucas (gk) with the one-hand save that he sends over the net for the save. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would return home after an extended road trip and take on a SUNYAC foe like the #22 Oneonta State Red Dragons as they battle at the league's top. The teams would go back and forth throughout the first half of the game, with both teams having their chance to get the opening goal, but there would be no score in the first half. When the teams returned for the second half, the Cardinals would break the ice in the 75th minute on Brian Coughlan's third goal to make it a 1-0 game. It wouldn't take long for the Cardinals to extend their lead to 2-0 on Modou Badjie's second goal of the season in the 78th minute. From there, the Cardinals would stand tall, hold on for the 2-0 win, and improve their record to 7-1-3, while the Oneonta State Red Dragons would fall to 7-2-3. The Cardinals will return to action this Saturday as they trek across the state and take on the Buffalo State Bengals. Gallery

NCAA Division III Women's Soccer: R.P.I. Engineers @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals September 25th 2024

Plattsburgh State's Kelly Licata (31) and the R.P.I. midfielders chase down the loose ball and go on the attack. It would be the fourth straight match for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals Women's Soccer team against a Liberty League squad, and this time, they would get the R.P.I. Engineers. The game would go back and forth all night, and in the second half, the rain would come, and at times, it would be a tough rain. The Cardinals would have their chance in the first half to take the lead in the game, but the goal was called off on an offside. The game was starting to look like it would end in a zero-to-zero tie. The Engineers would keep coming, though, and with about 90 seconds left, they would find the back of the net on Sarah Sedlacek on her second goal of the season. The Cardinals would have no time to get the equalizer and would fall to 2-6 as they enter SUNYAC play this weekend as they take on the Morrisville State for the R.P.I. Engineers would improve their record to 5-1-1 on the season. Gallery

NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball: Anna Maria Amcats @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals September 21st 2024

Plattsburgh State's Liya Girma (2) gets up above the attacker and gets the two-hand block on the attacker. It would be the second of the day for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals on the Tri-Match day at home as they would take on the Anna Maria Amcats to decide who would be the better team of the three on the day. The match would start well for the home Cardinals as they would win the first game by a score of 25-8. In the second game, it would be more of the same for the Cardinals as they would win that as well cruising away with a 25-13 game. The third set would be harder though as it would come down to wire and the Cardinals would get the last 4 straight points to secure the 25-23 victory and the straight set victory and win both matches on the day to go to 3-9 on the season. In the winning effort for the Cardinals, Iris Mulvey would lead the way with 15 points and 13 kills. They will look to continue their winning ways as they go on the road next weekend to take on the RIT Tigers and the St Lawerence Saints both matches at St Lawerence.Gallery

It would be the second of the day for the Plattsburgh State Cardinals on the Tri-Match day at home as they would take on the Anna Maria Amcats to decide who would be the better team of the three on the day. The match would start well for the home Cardinals as they would win the first game by a score of 25-8. SUNYAC Men's Soccer: Fredonia State Blue Devils @ #17 Plattsburgh State Cardinals September 21st 2024

Plattsburgh State's Tristan Laundree (2) splits a pair of Fredonia midfielders as he goes on the attack for his second goal of the game. The #17 Plattsburgh State Cardinals would open up conference play at home against the Fredonia State Blue Devils on homecoming weekend with 200 fans in attendance. The home Cardinals would get the opening goal of the match in the 16th minute from John Hayes his eighth of the season to make it a 1-0 game. Then just four minutes later in the 20th minute the Cardinals would expand on the lead and make it a 2-0 game on Tristan Laundree's third of the season and that's where the game would stay til the teams entered the half. When the teams returned for the second half the Blue Devils would come out on fire and get on the board in the 51st minute on Frederick Butler's second goal of the season. From there though the Cardinals' defense would be in shutdown mode and they would hold on for the 2-1 victory. In the winning effort, the Cardinals goalkeeper would make 2 saves as they stayed undefeated at 6-0-2. The Cardinals will return home next weekend as they continue in conference play against the Morrisville State Mustangs. Gallery

The Plattsburgh State Cardinals would have their first of two matches on the day as they would on the winless SUNY Poly from the Empire 8. The first game of the match would be a see-saw affair but the home Cardinals would come out on top in the end with a 25-21 win. In the second game, the Cardinals would have an easier go of it and would take the two sets to zero lead with a 25-11 victory. Then in the third set, the Cardinals would be able to handle their business and take the third game 25-14 win and get the straight-set victory. In their winning effort, Iris Mulvey would lead the way with 11 points and have 9 kills. They will take on the Anna Maria Amcats in their next match. Gallery

NCAA Division III Women's Soccer: Clarkson Golden Knights @ Plattsburgh State Cardinals September 18th 2024

Plattsburgh State's Macie Bolton (13) and Clarkson's Alina Krdzic (3) battle for possession just over the midfield. The Plattsburgh State Cardinals Women's Soccer would be hosting their third straight opponent from the Liberty League at the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse Complex against the Clarkson Golden Knights. Then Golden Knights would get the opening goal of the match in the 30th minute from Maddie Lopol to give the Golden Knights the 1-0 lead on the penalty kick and that's where the first half would end. When the teams returned for the second half they would go back and forth as the Cardinals would try and get the equalizer but in the 60th minute, the Golden Knights would expand their lead to 2-0 on Brooke Butler's second goal of the season. Then in the 75th minute, the Golden Knights would put the game on ice as they added their third goal to give them a 3-0 lead on the Ema Robinson goal her fourth of the season. That would do it for the scoring on the day as the Clarkson Golden Knights would get the 3-0 win and go to 3-3 on the season as the Cardinals fall to 1-5. As for the Cardinals, they will be back in action Saturday as they travel to Fredonia to take on the Blue Devils in their first conference test of the season. Gallery
