Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers @ Plattsburgh Hornets April 17th 2024

Plattsburgh's Shamus Bibeau (9) with the bounce shot that would beat Saranac Lake-Lake Placid's Charlie Wilson (1) for the goal. Section X Boy's Lacrosse action this afternoon from the Stafford Middle School Field would be as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host their fellow normal section vii opponent the Saranac Lake Placid Lakers. The game would start low scoring with the defenses being superior as the Hornets would have the slim 2-1 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Hornets would break out with a five-goal outburst and take control of the game at 7-2 at the half. When the teams returned for the third quarter the Lakers would make some changes and their defense would be on display as the Hornets would get the lone goal of the game for the 8-2 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Lakers would do all they could to get back in the game with a 4-goal quarter. However, it would not be enough as the Hornets would hold on for the 9-6 victory. In the winning effort, the Hornets would go to 3-1 on the season as they head into their next game on Friday as they travel to St Lawerence to take on the Larries. As for the Lakers, they will look to right the ship as they fall to 2-2 on the season. Gallery

Saranac Spartans @ Plattsburgh Hornets April 16th 2024

Saranac's Abby Liberty (9) slides under the tag of the Olattsburgh's pitcher and gets another run for the Spartans. It would be an early season matchup inside of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Softball as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Saranac Spartans. The game would start well for the Spartans as they opened the first inning with three runs for the 3-0 lead. In the second inning, the Spartans would add another four running as they would start to take control with the 7-0 lead. In the third inning, they would break it out with a six-run inning and take the 13-0 lead. In the fourth inning, they would add another five runs to expand the lead to 18-0. Before adding a single run in the fifth to secure the 19-0 win. In the winning effort, the Saranac Spartans stay undefeated on the season while the Plattsburgh Hornets suffer their first loss of the season and go to 2-1 on the season. Gallery

Ogdensburg Blue Devils @ Plattsburgh Hornets April 15th 2024

Plattsburgh's Owen Pray (54) with the catcher save on the high shot from Ogdensburg's Nate Irvine (1) to keep the Hornets in the game. It would be the third game of the season for the Plattsburgh Hornets and the Ogdensburg Blue Devils in Section X Boy's Lacrosse action and the first true home game for the Hornets after a neutral site game against Canton to start the season and then on the road to the Malone Huskies. It would be home cooking for the Hornets as they would jump out to a quick 4-0 lead over the Blue Devils just 90 seconds into the game. However, from there the Blue Devils would come out firing, go on a 9-1 run, and take the 9-5 lead at the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half the Hornets would start the second half where they started the first and go on a 5-1 run and tie the game at ten. However, the tables would turn again on the Hornets as the Blue Devils would finish on a 4-1 run and get the 14-11 victory. In the winning effort for the Ogdensburg Blue Devils go to 2-1 on the season. While the Plattsburgh Hornets suffer their first loss of the season and go to 2-1 on the season. The Blue Devils will look to continue their winning way with a matchup tomorrow against Potsdam. While the Plattsburgh Hornets will look to right the ship with their matchup Wednesday against the Saranac Lake/Lake Placid Lakers at Stafford Middle School. Gallery

ECAC Tournament Championship: #2 Cornell Big Red Vs #7 St. Lawerence Saints March 23rd 2024

The Cornell Big Red are crowned the 2024 ECAC Hockey champions for the first time in 14 years as they defeat the St. Lawerence Saints 3-1. It would be championship time in Lake Placid, NY, and the famed Herb Brooks Arena in front of 4,912 fans to settle the ECAC Hockey Conference champion and it would feature the #2 Cornell Big Red going after their first title since 2010. The #7 St Lawerence Saints are going after their first title since 2001 and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Big Red would get the opening answer of the game at the 6:15 mark of the first period on Jonathan Castagna's tenth goal of the season for the 1-0 Big Red lead. The game would stay there till the 5:13 mark of the second period when the Big Red and Jonathan Castagna would strike again for a 2-0 lead and that is how the second period would end. The Saints not wanting their Cinderella run to end would come out firing in the third period and cut the lead to 1 on the Cameron Buhl goal only his 4th of the season at the 4:15 mark. Coming down the streak the Saints would keep fighting for that equalizer and have the chance to tie the game. Although with the extra attacker on the ice, the Big Red would seal the game with the Jack O'Leary empty net goal to give the Big Red the 3-1 win and their first championship in 14 years. In the winning effort of the Big Red, Ian Shane would make 31 saves as the Cornell Big Red advanced to the NCAA Tournament. As for the St Lawerence Saints, their season will end a little short of their goal as Ben Kraws would have 26 saves as they finish at 14-19-6. Gallery

ECAC Tournament Semi-Finals: #2 Cornell Big Red Vs #4 Dartmouth Big Green March 22nd 2024

Cornell's Ian Shane (30) with the save on the scramble play in front of the net as he goes post to post for the save. It would be the second game from the ECAC Championships on the semi-final Friday as the #2 Cornell Big Red would take on the #4 Dartmouth Big Green at the Herb Brooks Arena in front of 4,015 fans for the right to go the championship tomorrow. The Big Green would get the lone goal of the first period from Sean Chisholm for his eighth of the season to give the Big Green the 1-0 lead at the 15:02 mark of the period. The Big Red would come out hot in the second period though and would fight back and tie the game at one on the Ondrej Psenicka goal at the 4:15 mark. The game would only be tied short time though as Dartmouth would regain the lead at 2-1 a minute later on the John Fusco goal for his 6th of the season. Then at the 12:18 mark of the period, the Big Green would expand their lead to 3-1 on the powerplay goal from John Fusco for his second of the game and taking control of the game. The game would stay there till the third period and in the third period, the Big Red would answer quick just 43 seconds in on the powerplay goal from Dalton Bancroft his 12th of the season to make it a 3-2 game. Then at the 8:32 mark of the period, the Big Red would tie the game at three on the Kyle Penney goal his ninth of the season. Just 50 seconds later the Big Red would come back and take the 4-3 lead on the Ryan Walsh goal his 12th of the season. Then in the game's closing minutes, the Big Redw would add a coupleempty net goals from Nick Desantis to secure the Big Red's 6-3 victory. In the winning effort for the Big Red, Ian Shane would make 27 saves as they went on to win the white claw title for the first time since 2010 as they will bottle the St Lawerence Saints. ECAC Tournament Semi-Finals: #1 Quinnipaic Bobcats Vs #7 St Lawerence Saints March 22nd 2024

St. Lawerence's Ben Kraws (31) with a save right to the chest off the stick of Quinnipiac's Anthony Cipollone (18) as they looked to get on the board. It is that time of year as we head back to Lake Placid, NY, and the Herb Brooks Arena for the ECAC Championship weekend for the 20th edition that would take place in Lake Placid and the first game of the semi-finals night would see the #1 Quinnipiac Bobcats and the #7 St Lawerence Saints in front of around 4,000 fans. The game would be scoreless through the first period with the teams each getting six shots on net. In the second period the Cinderella team of the tournament the Saints would get the 1-0 lead 7:43 into the period on Tomas Mazura's goal only his sixth of the season. The Saints wouldn't be done though just about four minutes later they would score again this time on the Powerplay from Max Dorrington for only second on the season and take the 2-0 lead and that's how the second period would end. In the third period the Saint's defense would be up to the challenge as they would be able to stop all that the Bobcats would throw at them and get an empty netter in the closing minute of the game from Ty Naaykens for the 3-0 win. With the win the Saint's dream playoff season will continue for one more night as they advance to the championship tomorrow night against the winner of the Cornell Big Red and the Dartmouth Big Green for the right to head to the NCAA Tournament. In the winning effort, the Saint's Ben Kraws would make 22 saves for the shutout victory as they go to 14-8-6 on the season while the Quinnipiac Bobcats will wait for there at large bid Sunday and go to 26-9-2 on the season. Norwich's Merck Athena (0) with the shot on net that puts the side past Plattsburgh State's Jess Loch (32) as they would get the 14-12 win. It would be a matchup between the SUNYAC and the Great Northeast Conference from the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse Complex as the Plattsburgh Cardinals would host the Norwich Cadets. The game would start well for the home Cadets as they would get off to the 4-2 lead after the first quarter on goals from Cynthia Barnosky (twice), Caitlin Nash, and Maddy Garcia. In the second quarter, the Cardinals would stay on top with the low-scoring affair with the 3-2 quarter on goals from Cynthia Barnosky (third and fourth), and Caitlin Nash with her second of the game as the Cardinals would have the 7-4 lead at the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter the game would stay tight. Still, the Cadets would cut into the lead with a 4-3 quarter scoring for the Cardinals would be Erica Dickinson, Cynthia Barnosjy (fifth), and Caitlin (third) as it would be 10-8 Cardinals as they entered the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Cadets would come out charging and take control of the game with a 6-2 quarter scoring for the Cardinals Lillian Gilroy and Janey Adans as the Cadets would get the come-from-behind victory at 14-12. In the losing effort for the Cardinals Jess Loch would still make 12 saves as they go to 1--3 on the season and will be back on the field Saturday as they take on Utica. As for the Norwich Cadets Bailey Manning Ingala would make 12 saves for the win and go to 2-1 on the season Gallery

#6 North Warren Cougars (II) Vs. #11 Schroon Lake Wildcats (VII) March 9th 2024

The North Warren Cougars are crowned the 2024 NYSPHSAA Class D Boy's Basketball champions with the 57-56 win over the Schroon Lake Wildcats. It would be the last game of the day from Clinton Community College as part of Regional Final Saturday and it would be in Class D NYSPHSAA Boy's Basketball in front of another packed house as #6 North Warren Cougars (II) and the #11 Schroon Lake Wildcats (VII) for the right to go to Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls and would they save a great game for the end. The game would be tight through the first eight minutes of the game as the Wildcats would have the slim 13-12 lead/ In the second quarter the lead would change hands a couple of times but still would be tight as the Cougars would have a 15-11 quarter and take the slim 27-24 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter it would be the same chorus different verse out there as the Cougars would have an 11-9 quarter and take a 38-33 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, both teams would come and shoot out of the gym and the scoreboard would be on fire with a 23-19 Schroon Lake quarter. The Wildcats would take the 1-point lead with ten seconds left on the Logan Bush free throw. Although the North Warren Cougars would drive right back down the court and Semaj Cuyler (1) would lay it off the window for the score and give the Cougars the 57-56 win and the berth in the final four. In the winning effort for the Cougars Wyatt Jennings would lead the way with 17 points as they go to 20-4 on the season. As for the Schroon Lake Wildcats Logan Bush would lead the game with 29 points as their season comes to end at 16-8. Gallery

#2 Northville Falcons (II) Vs. #13 Boquet Valley Griffins March 9th 2024

The Northville Falcons would be crowned the 2024 NYSPHSAA Class D Girl's Basketball Northern Regional champion with the 60-30 victory over the Boquet Valley Griffins. It would be the third game on the day at the Clinton Community College Forrence Gym on Regional Final Saturday in front of another packed crowd this time we would see the #2 Northville Falcons from Section II taking on the host #13 Boquet Valley Griffins from Section VII. The game would start well for the Northville Falcons as they got out to the quick lead on the Griffins they would double them up after the first quarter at 14-7. In the second quarter, the Falcons would show why they are the number 2 team in the state as they would take control of the game with a 22-7 quarter and take a 36-14 lead into the halftime break. When the teams returned for the third quarter the Griffins would do their best to stay with the Falcons but they would have no answer as the Falcons have a 12-10 quarter and take the 48-24 lead into the fourth quarter. In that fourth quarter with the outcome of the game pretty much done with the Falcons would let up out there and still have a 12-6 quarter and secure the 60-30 victory to punch their ticket to the Hudson Valley Community College and NYSPHSAA Class D Final Four next weekend. In the winning effort for Northville Falcons, Hailey Monroe would lead the way with 29 points as they go to 20-3 on the season. As for the Boquet Valley Griffins, their season will come to an end at a 16-8 mark. Gallery
