Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Baseball: Saranac Lake Red Stoem @ Plattsburgh Hornets April 21st 2023

It would be an early season matchup in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference as the Plattsburgh Hornets would host the Saranac Lake Red Storm. The game would start off well for the home Hornets as they would get on the board in the first inning on an RBI triple from Jace Lacey and take a 1-0 lead. Then in the second inning, the Hornets would start to take control of the game with a four-run inning led by a 2 RBI single from Warren Miller to give the Hornets a 5-0 lead. Then in the fourth inning, the Hornets would explode again with another five-run inning to take a 10-0 lead on a pair of RBI hits by Warren Miller and Jake Calkins. In the fifth inning, the Hornets would add a single run on a Braeden Calkins RBI single and extend their lead to 11-0. In the top of the sixth, the Red Storm would break up the shutout bid when Nick Munn would score on a sacrifice fly to make it an 11-1 game. Then in the bottom of the sixth, the Hornets would add two more runs lead by an RBI single by Dan Hartman as the Hornets would secure the 13-1 victory. In the winning effort Hornets pitcher Dan Hartman would give up one hit walked two and struck out five over his five innings of work in the winning effort as the Hornets go to 2-2 on the season while the Red Storm suffer their first loss of the season and go to 2-1 on the year. Both teams will be back in action tomorrow as the Plattsburgh Hornets will host the Moriah Vikings and the Saranac Lake Red Storm will travel to Lake Placid. Gallery

It would be the home opener and the first home game for the Hornets in over two seasons and they would have a conference game against the Canton Golden Bears. The game would not start off the greatest for the Hornets but they would stay in and only be down 3-1 after the first with the lone goal scorer for the Hornets being Declan Baker. In the second quarter, the defenses would stand tall on both sides as there would be no scoring in the quarter and the Bears would take the 3-1 lead into the break. Although when the teams returned for the third quarter the Bear's offense would come to life as they would explode for five in the quarter. Then in the fourth quarter, the Bears would have another 3-1 quarter with Declan Baker scoring again for the Hornets as the Bears would get the 11-2 win. In the winning effort, the Bears go to 2-1 on the season while Owen Pray would make 29 saves as the Hornets fall to 0-5 on the season. Gallery

Section VII Class B Girl's Basketball Finals: #3 Ausable Valley Patriots Vs #1 Saranac Chiefs March 3rd 2023

Saranac's Samatha Myers (24) drives the basket and gets the contact on the layup and gets the foul for the three-point play attempt. It would be the first game of championship weekend for section vii basketball from Clinton Community College. It would feature the #3 Ausable Valley Patriots and the #1 Saranac Chiefs for the Class B Girls finals. The game would get off to a slow start for both teams as it would be just an 8-4 Chiefs lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the defenses would still be the name of the game as the Chiefs would win the quarter 9-2 and take the 17-6 lead at halftime. When the teams returned for the third quarter the offense would come out of the locker room with them although the Chiefs would still be on top with a 15-15 quarter and take a 32-21 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, it would be more of the same as the Chief's offense would be the name of the game with an 18-9 quarter. As the Saranac Chiefs would be crowned the 2023 Section VII Class B Girls Basketball champions with a 50-30 win and with the win they will advance to the New York State Public Athletic Association Tournament and will take on the Section X representative next weekend. Section VII Class B Girl's Basketball Semi-Finals: #3 Ausable Valley Patriots @ #2 Plattsburgh Hornets February 24th 2023

Ausable Valley (3) rides up on the breakaway and lays it off the window for the score. It would be the semifinals of the Section VII Class B Girl's Basketball Tournament and it would feature the #3 Ausable Valley Patriots traveling to take on the #2 Plattsburgh Hornets for the right to head to next weekend's Section VII title game. The game would start off well for the upset-minded Patriots as they would have the 22-13 lead as they end the first half of the game. When the teams returned for the third quarter the Patriots would keep their hot hand going with a 13-7 quarter and take a 35-20 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Patriots would finish off the upset victory with an 11-8 quarter and get the 46-28 victory. With the win, the Ausable Valley Patriots advance to the Section VII Class B Finals and will take on the winner of the Saranac Chiefs and the Beekmantown Eagles at the Clinton Community College on March 3rd. Ausable Valley's (10) splits a pair of Hornets defenders and lays it off the window for the score. It would be the semifinals of the Section VII Class B Girl's Basketball Tournament and it would feature the #3 Ausable Valley Patriots traveling to take on the #2 Plattsburgh Hornets for the right to head to next weekend's Section VII title game. The game would start off well for the upset-minded Patriots as they would have the 22-13 lead as they end the first half of the game. When the teams returned for the third quarter the Patriots would keep their hot hand going with a 13-7 quarter and take a 35-20 lead into the fourth quarter. Northeastern Clinton's Will Simpson with the shot and the goal that he sticks in the top shelf as part of the hat trick the night. It would be the opening game of the New York State Section VII Boy's Hockey Quarterfinals and the #5 Plattsburgh Hornets would travel up to the Rouses Point Civic Center and take on the #4 Northeastern Clinton Cougars with the winner getting the right to play the #1 Beekmantown Eagles. The game would start off well for the visiting Hornets as they would get the opening goal of the game on the Jace Lacey goal at the 12:07 mark of the first period for the 1-0 Hornets lead. Then with just over a minute left in the opening period, Jace Lacey would strike again to give the upset-minded Hornets the 2-0 lead as the first period would come to end. Although when the teams would return to the second period the Cougars would cut the lead down to one just 5:17 into the period on the Marcus Bedard goal. The Cougars would keep the rush going and tie the game up at two just 22 seconds later on the Will Simpson goal and that's how the second period would come to end. The Cougars would start off the third period on fire with the go-ahead goal just 36 seconds into the third period on Will Simpson's second goal of the game for the 3-2 Cougars lead. The Hornets would keep the swarming and tie the game up at three with just over ten minutes left in the game on the Jace Lacey hat trick goal/ The tie would be short-lived though as the Cougars would retake the lead at 4-3 just over a minute later on the Lucas Hemingway goal. Then with just over five minutes left in the game, the Cougars would take the two-goal lead on the Will Simpson hat trick goal for the 5-3 lead. Although the Hornets would not just roll over and let the game go as they would score with the extra attacker with 12 seconds left in the game on the Braeden Calkins goal for the 5-4 game and that's where it would end. In the winning effort the #4 Northeastern Clinton Cougars advance to the semi-finals and will play the #1 Beekmantown Eagles as Peter Judkins would make 11 saves in the win. Plattsburgh's Max Filosca(5) rises high above the rest for the three-pointer from the elbow for the score. It would be the last game of the regular season inside section VII and would be a reschedule from an earlier game in the season due to replacement weather. The game would start off a with high flying pace that would play right into the hands of the Bobcats as they would race out to a 21-14 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the high-flying pace would continue as the Bobcats would jump on a 23-15 quarter and take a 44-29 lead into the intermission. When the teams returned for the third quarter the hot hand for the Bobcats would continue and they would have an 18-12 quarter and take a 62-41 lead into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, there would be no give in the Bobcats as they would have a 13-11 quarter and secure the 75-52 victory. In the winning effort, the Northern Adirondack Bobcats would finish the regular season at 11-9 and will get the #3 seed in the upcoming Section VII Class C Tournament and will face the Northeastern Clinton Cougars in the semi-finals. While the Plattsburgh Hornets will finish their season at 7-11 will get the #3 seed in the Section VII Class B Tournament and will host the #6 Peru Nighthawks in the first round of the tournament.
