Champlain Valley Baseball League Peabody's Padres Vs Plattsburgh Cardinals June 9 2013

Peabody's Matt Rivers (88) drops in the curveball for the strike as part of his shutout victory in game one. The Peabody Padres would host the Plattsburgh Cardinals in Saranac during week five the Champlain Valley Baseball League. The first game would be great pitchers duel at the Padres would get 1-0 win. The Padres would get a there lone run in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Zack Myers. In the winning effort, Matt Rivers would pitch the complete-game shutout giving up just five hits while striking out four. For the lack of runs in game one game, two would make up for it. The Padres would take the 1-0 lead in first on Mark Eggleston RBI double. The Cardinals would take the lead in the second with two runs to make it 2-1. The Cardinals would extend the lead to 4-1 in the fifth to runs. The Cardinals would at two more in the top of the 5th to make it 6-1 before the Padres would start to answer back with three runs on RBI singles from Andrew Petro and Matt Rivers to make it 6-4. Although the Cardinals would answer back in the seventh with four runs to make it 10-4. At the bottom of the inning, the Cardinals would do there best to get back in but fall short as Mark Eggleston would have an RBI double and Matt Hart RBI single to end the game at 10-6 Cardinals. So with the two teams splitting the doubleheader, the Padres go to 3-5 while the Cardinals go to 5-5. Gallery

Peabodies Matt Rivers (88) ranges far to the his right to pick the grounder behind second for the fire to first for the out. The Peabodies Padres would take on the Meron's Expos in Week 3 of the Champlain Valley Baseball League. In game one the Expos would take the 1-0 lead in the first inning. The game would stay there till the fourth when the Expos would add four more runs to extend the lead to 5-0. The Expos would get two more in the fifth to secure the 7-0 victory. Getting the win for the Expos Billy Davis would pitch the shutout giving up just four hits and striking out two. As the teams would return for the second game the Padres would take the quick 1-0 lead on Jeff Norton's RBI double. The score would stay way until the third when the Padres would get three runs thanks to Matthew Hart's two RBI single and Brady Burleigh's RBI single to make it 4-0. The Expos woud do there best to get back in as they cut the lead in half with two runs in the fourth couldn't get any closer though. As the Padres would get the 4-2 win to earn the split on the day. In the win for game two Frank Brogna would go four innings strike out one give up two runs on three hits. With the splits the Padres go to 2-4 on the season. Gallery

The Peabody's Padres would take on the Meron's Expos in Week 3 of the Champlain Valley Baseball League. In-game one the Expos would take the 1-0 lead in the first inning. The game would stay there till the fourth when the Expos would add four more runs to extend the lead to 5-0. The Expos would get two more in the fifth to secure the 7-0 victory. The 2013 edition of the Champlain Valley Baseball League would get underway with a rematch of the championship from 2012 as the Peabody's Padres would host the Lyon Mountain Miners. In-game 1 of the doubleheader, the Padres would take a 2-0 lead in the first. Although the lead would be short-lived as the Miners would come back and get 1 in the second. Then in the third and fourth the Miners would get 12 more runs thanks to some untimely errors by the Padres and game would be called after 5 at 13-3. Game two would be a lot more competitive game as the Padres would have a 5-3 lead entering the six and the Miners would get 1 run in the 6th and 7th to force extra innings tied at 5-5. Then on the 8th, the Miners would get three runs to secure the 8-5 victory. With the result of the opening week, the Miners are 2-0 while the Padres are 0-2. Gallery

The game would start off well for the Padres as they would take the 1-0 lead after the first. Then in the second, they would get four more on a grand slam from Mark Eggleston to take the 5-0 lead. From there on out the Timberjaxxs would get fourteen unanswered runs. The big dagger in the heart would come in the third when they would score nine runs as the Padres pitches were having problems located the plate. Airborne Speedway's Matt Rivers (88) jumps to snag the high hop and fire over to first for the out. The Airborne Speedway Padres would sweep a doubleheader over the Fourth Ward Athletics by scores of 15-0 and 14-11. In-game one the Athletics would have no answer for Matt Rivers has would go the complete game striking out three and giving up just two hits. The Padres would score early and often as they would get two in the first, one in second to make it 3-0. Then in the third, the Padres would explode for five runs including a three-run homer from Joey Painter to make it 8-0. Then in the fifth, the Padres would finish it off with a seven-spot as the Athletics pitcher was having problems locating the plate for the 15-0 final. Then in game two, they would trade runs in the first to make it 1-1. The Padres would take the 2-1 lead after two. Then in the third A's would come back and tie the game at 3. Then in the fourth, the Padres would take 10-5 lead on the seven-run inning on the strength of Nick Desrochers and Mark Eggleston's back to back home runs. In the fifth, the A's would trim the lead to two runs at 11-9 on the strength of a four-run inning. Then the teams would trade runs over the remaining innings to make the final 14-11 Getting the win in relief was Matt Rivers. As the Padres would improve to 7-7 and the A's fall to 5-9 on the season with one week remaining. Gallery
