Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Class C Championship: #1 Saranac Spartans Vs #2 Saranac Lake Red Storm November 4th 2023

Saranac Lake's Zack Goetz (6) jumps over Saranac's Conner Burns (2) for an interception to stop the Spartans scoring attempt. It would be the first championship of championship Saturday from Ausable Valley High School as the #17 (#1) Saranac Spartans would take on the #2 Saranac Lake Red Storm for the Section VII Class C Championships. The Spartans would jump out to the lead just 2:13 into the game on a 25-yard run by Landen Smith to give the Spartans the 7-0 lead. The Spartans would stay on the gas and extend their lead to 15-0 on a 2-yard run by Nathan Hamel. Then with just 1:12 left in the quarter, Nathan Hamel would score again this time from 18 yards out, and give the Spartans the 22-0 lead as the first quarter would come to an end. In the second quarter, the Spartans would stay on the gas as they would score two more times this time from Conner Burns and Alex Clancey, and give the Spartans the 36-0 lead as they headed into the locker room. When the teams returned for the second half it was looking like the first half again as the Spartans would score just 4:35 into the half on a 6-yard run by Haiden Blair to give the Spartans the 43-0 lead. The Red Storm would get on the board with a 12-yard passing touchdown with 1:20 left in the third quarter to make it a 43-6 game. However, the Red Storm would not just be happy with avoiding the shutout as they would score again with 4 minutes left in the game on the Evan Willett running score to make it 43-12 game. With that, the Saranac Spartans would hold onto the win and advance to the NYSPHSAA Class C Tournament and will be in action next week against Section X's Gouvenour Wildcats in the opening round on November 10th. As for the Saranac Lake Red Storm, their season comes to an end at 1-8. Gallery

It would be the Section VII Class D Championship from the Beekmantown High School as the #8 (#1) Moriah Vikings would take on the #2 Ausable Valley Patriots for the right to go to the NYSPHAA Class D Tournament. The game would start off well for the Vikings as they would score just 3:50 into the game on a five-yard run by Evan Fleury to give the Vikings a 6-0 lead. The Vikings would stay on the gas and score just under four minutes later this time on a 2 yard run by Evan Fluery to extend their lead to 14-0. Then in the final 30 seconds in the first quarter, the Vikings would strike again this time from 34 yards and Evan Fluery would score again for his three score of the quarter to give the Vikings the 22-0 lead. The Vikings would slow down some and get just one score in the quarter on a 68-yard scramble to give the Vikings the 30-0 lead as the team went into the intermission. When the teams returned for the second half the Vikings would lighten up and there would only be one score on a 25-yard pass to Luke Smith to give the Vikings the 37-0 lead and the win. In the winning effort, the Vikings go to 7-2 on the season and will enter the NYSPHSAA Class D Tournament and take on the winner of Section II on November 17th. The Moriah Vikings keep there reign atop of Class D as they are crowned the 2023 Section VII Class D Championship. Plattsburgh State's Tio D'Addario (9) bangs in the goal on the short side to give the Cardinals the 6-3 lead late in the game. It would be the home opener for the #7 Plattsburgh State Cardinals as they would begin the 2023-24 campaign with a game against the Castleton State Spartans from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in front of 1300 fans. The game would start off well for the home Cardinals as they would get the opening goal just 2:46 into the game on the Paul Bryer goal. The Cardinals would expand their lead just five minutes later on the Adam Tretowicz goal and take the 2-0 lead. Although just 42 seconds later the Spartans would get on the board and cut the lead in half at 2-1 on the Jackson Edwards goal. Then just about three minutes later the Spartans would tie the game up on the Josef Vyvial to make it 2-2. The game would stay there till the ten-minute mark of the second period when Lonan Bulger would score to give the Cardinals the 3-2 lead. Just two minutes later the Spartans would tie the game up again on the Andrew Stefura goal. That was the game would stay till the third period when the Cardinals would erupt for three powerplay goals from Josh Belgrave, Ryan Bonfield, and Tio D'Addario and secure the 6-3 victory. It would be a very physical game though as the teams would combine for 55 minutes in penalty minutes. In the winning effort, Eli Shiller would make 17 saves on the night as the Cardinals went to 2-0 on the season. Next up for the Cardinals, they will be on the road next weekend to start SUNYAC play against the Morrisville State Mustangs. Gallery

The Hornets would keep fighting and as time was nearing the end of the half Dominic Deangelo would return a pick 6 interception 95 yards to make it a two-score game again at 29-12 at the half. When the teams return for the second half the Eagles would pick up where they left off with a 8-yard run by Parker Broughton to give them a 35-12 lead just 5 minutes into the half. Then with 2 minutes left in the quarter, the Eagles would make a 28-yard field goal from Patrick Hagadorn for the 38-12 lead. The game would stay there till about three minutes left when Shamus Bibeau would score from 8 yards out for the 44-12 victory. It would be the Section Class A Boy's Soccer Championships from Northeastern Clinton as the #1 seeded Plattsburgh Hornets would meet up with the #2 Peru Nighthawks for the right to head to the state tournament. The Nighthawks would get the opening goal of the game just seven minutes into the game from Seanen Edwards for the 1-0 lead. The game would stay there all the way to the 61st minute of the game when the Hornets would fight back and tie the game at one on the Andrew Bula goal. That is where the game would through the rest of regulation along with the 30 extra minutes of the overtime session and there would be no winner. From there the game would head to penalty kicks and it would take to the eighth round before we had a winner. When the Hornets get the win they advance to the NYSPHSAA Class A Tournament and in the first round will face the Massena Red Raiders from Section X. In the winning effort, Nick Clooney would make 7 saves on the night and Connor Perrotte would have 6 on the night. Gallery

USA Boy's 16U Hockey Adirondack Cup Finals: Adirondack Jr. Thunder @ Adirondack 46ers

46ers' Liam Davis (17) with the hard crunch along the boards and pins the Jr. Thunder along the dasherboards. It would be the third and final day of the 3rd annual Adirondack Cup at the Malone Civic Center in NYSAHA Boy's 16U Hockey and it would the finals as it would be an all-Adirtondack final as the host 46ers would meet up with the Jr. Thunder for the championship. The game would not start off the greatest for the home 46ers as the Jr. Thunder would get the opening goal in the first couple of minutes. However, the 46ers would come back and get a couple of goals and take a 2-1 lead to end the first period. In the second period, the teams would trade goals and the 46ers would hold a 3-2 lead as they would enter the third period. In the third period, the 46ers offense would come alive and they would get four goals. They would cruise to the 7-2 victory and be crowned the 2023 Adirondack Cup champions. The 46ers will be back in action next Sunday as they will have a pair of games against these same Adirondack Jr. Thunder. Gallery
